Bakewell market is every Monday and dates back from as early as 1330 when Edward III granted a market charter. The market is a livestock market as well as a standard market selling everything from books, to stationary, clothes, tools, CD's, and home made food etc. It tends to become very busy during the summer months and especially on bank holidays. In fact nearly every road into Bakewell is jammed on a bank holiday. There's plenty of cafes around the market for a bite to eat, as well as a superb chip shop. The market is also close to the river which provides a lovely spot for eating your lunch. read more
