The shop is small but very cosy place. When it is stocked well - there are loads of nice foods. I…read moreespecially like the black pudding, the summer fruit pudding, plenty of nice local-ish cheeses to choose from, hams, game and poultry. At Christmas they used to sell a gorgeous game pie - yummy yummy. The shop also sells eggs, flours, breads, cakes, coffee, tea, beers, honeys, lots of different stuff really - also frozen foods e.g. pies, puddings. I also get my propolis tincture from there and I bought a lovely propolis cream. There is also fresh food to tkw - pies, pastriesHowever, the custard tart went mouldy after a day in the fridge - which was very surprising as I am normally very happy with what I buy there. The staff is helpful and polite. Very nice little shop.

As we are both vegetarians, this was quite an unpleasant experience. Although we live 20 miles from Bakewell, I made a special journey to return to the shop (with the quiche wrapper) in the hope of an apology or refund/replacement. To my amazement, the owner refused to do either. Apparently if I had returned the remains of the quiche (which I had thrown away, never wanting to see it again) then he would have considered a refund. This matter is now in the hands of the Consumer Protection agency, who are taking it very seriously.
