On the 30th of October, I called Baker Plumbing due to flooding in my garage and bathroom/laundry room. By the time Austin showed up on the 2nd of November the water had receded. I explained to him that I had had flooding in the garage before due to the water heater but never in the bathroom/laundry room however, we had noticed a little bit of water on the floor around the sink pedestal. I mentioned that I didn't believe that the tank was the issue. I further informed him that I had shut the water off to the sink and toilet upon discovering the flood, but had since turned on the water to the toilet. Austin looked up at the water pipes on the ceiling in the laundry room and noted that they were shiny with no oxidizing I believe was the term he used. He briefly looked in the garage and then started asking about whether I had ever had the walls outside my home resealed. I believe that was the terminology he used. I responded no and he informed me that due to the heavy rain that we had had, the problem had to be the perimeter drain. He further noted that the water receded because by that point it hadn't rained for a few days. He went into great detail about the work that would be required and how difficult it would be because they'd have to initially dig through concrete. I asked how much it would cost and although he didn't know for certain, he figured it would be in excess of $10,000. He then very generously offered to talk to some out of work landscaper friends who could probably do the work for $50 per hour. I told him that I'd think about it and he then wrote up a bill for$144.38 for what I'm sure was a less than 15 minute visit. Since that time we've again had heavy rain but the problem hasn't happened again. Clearly the problem had nothing to do with the perimeter drain and is quite probably the bathroom sink. In thinking about the situation, I realized that Austin had never actually physically checked anything. He just looked at what was readily visible. He never touched the pipes behind the toilet or sink.
I called Baker this morning and Phil called me back promptly. We were in the middle of a back and forth over the situation when the call dropped as he was telling me something. I immediately called back but it went to voicemail after multiple rings. I waited for him to call back and when he didn't I again left a message for him to call me back. He didn't. I need to stress that initially all I wanted was for them to come and fix the actual problem without charging me again for the service call. An hour later though, Austin called. By this point I was fed up and after telling Austin that I wasn't happy with what had happened and would like a refund he said to me; "we effing (my censorship) went over everything together." I asked him, what did you say to me? After I repeated what he had said, he told me to have a nice day and hung up. Apparently this is somehow my fault.
At no point was I ever rude to either Phil or Austin nor did I ever swear at them. I called Phil and left a message about what Austin had said to me but he hasn't called back. I'm sure he won't nor do I think I'll receive a refund.
In looking at the reviews here, something I wish I had paid more attention to initially, I've noticed that in responding to negative reviews, you never really take responsibility for anything. You just make excuses. Such as;
- I don't see you on my client list...
- Hi Mr. Langg, can you please call me as I don't see you as a customer in our system...
- Due to COVID-19, businesses are working with limited staff and under the restrictions and guidelines set forth by the province...
- Hi sorry you were not contacted back. That seems strange as we are always available to deal with any client concerns....Our Techs are super busy and sometime forget to pass messages to Phil.
- ....At that time we were short staffed and over booked.
This is further demonstrated by the text message I recieved shortly after Austin, like a coward, hung up on me. The text said;
"You failed to supply me with all the information that was your first line we do not pay for other peoples mistakes if you turned off the sink that's a valuable piece of information that you have to share so everything's your own fault it sucks but that's what it is you can't expect people to pay charity for your Eff (my censorship) ups you're a grown adult have a nice day"
You couldn't even get my name right on the invoice Austin. It's only four letters.
So Phil, I guess you'll be keeping my $144.38. But be secure in the knowledge that you ripped off a disabled veteran on a pension. I hope that amount of money is worth losing all credibility. You and your staff are rude, completely unprofessional and absolutely despicable. I can only hope that you haven't been ripping off other people. In particular senior citizens. read more
