This is great fun, and the selection of pottery means there is something for everything, adults a kids. For kids they also do parties, and the smiles on the faces on their way out says it all. This branch, which recently opened on John Street is a bigger shop of the same franchise. There are a few seats here so you can sit down and eat, as well as taking food away. Unfortunately on my first and only visit Steph's was quite dirty, and the standard of my food was poor ( a jacket potato, so not difficult to get right!) It was quite busy that day, and maybe it was teething problems, but the shop had been open for a few months by then.

The tables are all crammed together and if there's a queue, as there often is, you have to queue right through the cafe and right through the middle of the tables. It's hardly pleasant. If it were quiet I'm sure it would be a lovely coffee out but it never seems to be - almost always when I pass the tables are all full. The food is quite good, but I just don't think the atmosphere makes it worth bothering with.

Take a hat on a sunny day if sitting outside on the elevated terrace (best position for people and sea watching) - hat needed for protection from searing rays that seem to beam in directly at your face from the solar furnace. Might need to time your arrival to coincide descreetly with a vacating table (outside ones that is - there are plenty indoors) - just don't look too obvious as you start to run the last few yards to grab the seat before another bottom alights. Service can be a bit slow and costs are not at the cheap end - but definitely worth it - Americano with hot milk served perfectly. Recommended. Hope this is helpful.
