We were craving Indian/Indo-Chinese food and walked into BailwalG. Ordered Schezuan fried rice and Punjabi thali. The food was very tasty.

Worst Indian restaurant experience in new zealand. Mainly attributed to the incompetence of…read moremanagement more than the food. They were clearly not equipped to handle the large amount of crowd coming in but the manager was not precise on the delay it would take for food or handling the crowed. Even after placing order and being told it would be 30 min wait, we ended up waiting for more than an hour, and this was because the manager didn't communicate the sequence in which each table's order was taken, thus other tables were served first. The rest of the staff seemed much more smart and were handling the situation very well which the manager we just busy taking to go orders. I saw more than one table just getting up and leaving from there after waiting a while. The food itself was okay, nothing special. Wouldn't recommend the place unless you are ready to wait it out.

Yummiest India vegetarian food in town. We tried other two Indian restaurants in town: Lovely…read moreIndia, Indian Star cusine, and like the taste of Steam way better. I am amazed at variety of choices , we took good time to savor the menu itself(~8pages). We ordered Bajra roti, Rajasthani Kadhi, Paneer Lavabdar , Masala papad, Manchow soup, and butter roti. Quantity of entrees is meant to be shared by at least 2 adults. Soup serving is good for 1adult . I can't imagine how splitting 1/2 would satisfy an adult. Bajra roti was served with gud (jaggery). Paneer, I felt was too dry or precooked and barely simmered in sauce to soften up. Wait staff and kitchen staff is limited , so be prepared to wait at least 20mins for each item(as mentioned on menu). And that's why I reserve the remaining . They do have pool table to entertain. Best bet would be to order take away and eat at your hotel/outside/home. Plenty of seating spaces.

Not a bad place. Decent pricing for NZ…read more Ordered a half chicken $14.00 made it a combo which was an additional $4 something. Hubby got a chicken sandwich. We both ordered it mild, probably could have ordered it hot. We got peri-peri chips and a real sugar Sprite in a glass bottle. The chicken could have been a little more char grilled but overall it was tasty and moist. The breast seemed small, almost like it was a portion of a breast instead of a whole breast. The sandwich was good, hubby demolished it. The peri peri chips were a little salty, but good and hot. Only issue were the coldness of the room, according to the sign the heaters were broken. There were also three birds flying around the room, pooping. There were also a lot of tables that needed to be wiped down and cleared. That didn't happen until after we had sat down and cleaned our own table. Besides the gentleman in the polo shirt who took our order, we tried saying thanks and have a nice day to one of the employees we passed. Dead silence, seems to be common at restaurants and other places.

It was about 30 minutes to closing, and unfortunately could tell the staff were not happy that customers were entering the store. In fact, some customers after me left because of the staff pointing out that the kitchen would be closing soon. I decided to stay anyway, and went for the lemon herb chicken, and peri peri chips. I didn't end up waiting long for my order (maybe 10 minutes), and in the meantime I grabbed some of their sauce options for my table. The food was OK, but for ~$11 (NZD), I couldn't really complain too much about the food quality. The chips were definitely better than the chicken... The restaurant was clean, and there were some other customers already eating when I arrived, but not too many. Pity that the kitchen seemed rushed to get customers to leave the restaurant though, otherwise it may have been a different experience.
