The sculpture is fairly big (75 feet tall), with its signature characteristic being that its petals can move. The petals are retracted at sunset and then opened up again at sunrise. I thought that it was a gorgeous looking sculpture, but not something to go out of one's way for. What was disappointing as well is that you cannot get close to it and only take photos from a distance. It is surrounded by a reflecting pool. However, it was a perfect add on to my visit to the nearby Recoleta Cemetery.

Floralis Genérica is definitely a cool landmark -- a massive steel flower set in a peaceful park near Recoleta. The design is striking, and the area is impressively clean and well-kept. You'll get some great photo ops here, especially when the petals are open under the sun. But a couple of things held me back from giving this a higher rating. For one, you can't get very close to the sculpture. Unlike something like "The Bean" in Chicago, where you can walk right up, touch it, and experience it from all angles, here you're kept at a distance -- which limits the interaction and overall impact. Also: where are the public restrooms? For such a major tourist draw, there's a surprising lack of bathroom access. A place like this should absolutely have free public facilities -- it's a basic expectation, especially for families and international visitors. Still, it's a worthwhile stop if you're exploring the city and want something visually iconic and relatively quiet. Just come prepared -- and maybe don't load up on coffee right beforehand.

It's a pleasant place to spend some time! The plaza is surrounded by Placio Paz on one side, another huge palace on another, and the park opens up to a big, long mall with a clock tower and a monument to the children killed at the Malvinas Islands battles. There's a subway stop here, so it's easy to access. Watch out for people sleeping by the entrance. The park opens up to Florida Street on the other side, which is a great shopping district. "Cambio! Cambio!" It's a bit of a bummer that someone decided to fence off the giant statue of San Martin on horseback, so you can't get too close. There's plenty of parking along this square, and it's a nice place to get situated. It's up a hill from the central train station. There are no public restrooms here.

Nice small park near Recoleta Cemetery…read more Love the huge Ombu tree with its tangled maze of roots and huge umbrella canopy. Ombu trees are known as the lighthouse because of the shade that they can provide during the heat of the summer in Argentina. The trunks and branches of the Ombu tree contain 80% water. This makes them quite resistant to fire. It is classified as one if the toughest trees worldwide.

If there's too many people around for your taste, you can always walk to the next block over and find a quiet spot there. On weekends and national holidays there's a fair that's kinda like an antique shop, a craft fair, a market and a book fair all in one. There are some interesting finds in there, so it's a good way to spend a lazy Sunday outside, browsing stall by stall in search of a good deal. It's surrounded by tons of bus stops, the Dorrego subway station, and a couple of blocks away you've got the Chacarita station of the San Martín Railway as well.
