Very cold in winter because the wind whistles through the platform, again very pleasant in summer. On the whole a beautiful platform that is very well maintained. You can buy a MVV ticket from a machine here read more

Use this train station quite a lot at the moment. I find it useful to get to where I want to get…read moreto! The train comes every 10 minutes during commuter times, Monday to Friday or just every 20 minutes. There are only ticket machines here, the locals know which ticket to buy when purchasing a ticket. If you're a tourist, my advice is to search online before hand which ticket to buy when buying a ticket, or just ask for help from a person waiting on the platform, the people are usually helpful and if you don't speak German, most of the people are willing to help in English.
In general, it provides good transportation in Munich. But it is fairly expensive (about 10.4…read moreEuros (about $16) for a ride from the train station to the airport). And there are traps for the unwary! There are essentially no personnel to help, and ticket purchases are done in automated kiosks with unclear instructions. One pitfall is that the tickets are only good for 4 hours, unless you specifically buy an "advanced ticket" and then validate it when entering the platform. It is assumed you understand this nuance, but if you come from a place iike NYC or Wash DC (wheremetro/subway tickets are good forever and are considered used only when you enter the startion) you can find yourself out of luck and out considerable funds. We had the experience of buying 4 tickets not realizing this, and when we tried to use them the next day, discovered we had to buy NEW tickets and were basically out the 40 Euros (about $60 bucks!!) for the now useless tickets we bought the night before and had to purchase new tickets!. Attempts to rectify this at the main train station or airport "help" desks were unsuccessful. The people were rude, rigid, and incredibly unhelpful. I am still trying to get reimbursed by writing to the S DB, but am so far unsuccessful. Beware!

Restrooms were clean, waitresses offered refreshments & there was space for luggage. The ride between cities was scenic passing farms, wineries & charming villages. We purchased our return tickets on the internet. We walked to the station, found our track & boarded our train. We found comfortable seats after leaving our luggage in the rack by the door.

We transited through here to get to Salzburg and see a few nearby castles while in town for 9 days. It's large…read moreand can be a bit confusing (as any subway/train/hub of travel can be to those who aren't used to it), but once you get the hang of the hallways, stairs and turns, it's easy to navigate. We took many a train to and from our second "home base", Marienplatz. The thing that I loved about starting and ending at Ostbhanhof was the fact that we could take practically any train - going in the correct direction, of course - if we wanted to stop at Marienplatz. That meant we rarely had to wait for a train, which was an added bonus, given we were there in the middle of winter, and there is no shelter from the cold, wind and rain on the platforms. Signage is plentiful, there are plenty of ticket machines scattered throughout the station, and one can buy anything from pastries and coffee to lotions and toothpaste without having to leave the relative warmth of the station itself. Our last train out of Ostbahnhof was the one to Salzburg, so we were able to connect locally as well as "internationally". It definitely made it easy for weary travelers, with just a bit of German language on their side.

Not too pricey, and a fairly quick tour of the city (under an hour). It's a hop-on, hop-off bus…read moretour, but there aren't really many places that you want to hop-off. Only seven stops. They provide cheapy headphones for you to listen to the pre-recorded audio track if you don't speak German (which is blaring over the loudspeakers in the bus). Nothing really special, and if this is what city bus tours are like, I probably won't do any more in the future. They have a couple other routes to try, as well, but I can't imagine that they are any better than the main city tour that I took. So here's the funny part: my wife was commenting that our driver was very aggressive, but I didn't really agree... until he rear-ended someone!! So that delayed us a bit while they worked things out...

We had a choice of three routes and chose the Red route which mainly goes though the middle of Munich. This bus tour service helps to familiarize you with essential areas and also gives you some simple history along the way. Nicely priced and you have the option of using your pass to get around if you're tired of walking. I had a good camera and sitting on the top level ( the bus had two levels) I was able to take quite a few very nice photos. That was a bonus! You're up a little higher so it worked well. Do this as a tourist to get your bearings or the city. :)

We bought a day pass from the airport which covered our trip from the airport to our hotel and then used the pass to get to the Munich Olympic Park and the BMW Campus and Museum. We also took this station to go to Dachau as well. I was surprised that they very rarely checked for tickets during our stay in Munich. According to our tour guide, they are on an "honor" system. There are no turnstiles or entrance gates to scan your tickets. Ticket inspectors randomly inspect for tickets. If you don't have one you may get a €60 or more fine! A very useful station in Munich, but make sure that you have a ticket. We always did!

Wouldn't consider this a 4.5 star rated hotel because of the customer service experience. Don't mean to sound too picky but I truly think that you can make any place a highly rated experience if a personal touch, experience is important to the hosts (even just a thank you for coming) and we didn't get that feeling. Don't plan on going back as there are places in city center for the same price and hopefully a better experience.
