This is one of the largest train stations I've seen in Europe!…read more It's like a mall! There are plenty of shopping options available, including some local Swiss chocolate shops. The train station itself self was huge and well organized. It was easy to navigate and get from the airport to our hotel.
Yelp Review 2026 #50:…read more Zürich Hauptbanhof connects Zürich to the airport, and to other parts of Switzerland. It's pretty big but east to navigate. There's a board where you can see the schedule and what platform each train is leaving from. There are restaurants, cafes, convenience stores, and chocolate shops at the station. I can't speak on restrooms since I didn't use them but every restroom I've used in Switzerland has been clean. Outside the Hauptbanhof, there are buses, taxis, and trams to connect you if you're staying somewhere away from this station. But there are hotels within walking distance from here. I've taken trains to/ from Zürich Hauptbanhof in the afternoon, early morning and at night and I felt safe regardless of the time of day.

This is the main station at Zurich and u can get anywhere from this station. There were plenty of signs to navigate thru. They had kiosks throughout the station to purchase tickets and passes, although it can be very confusing the very first time. There were ticket offices and service centers to assist travelers with any travel needs. The station is full of restaurants..... fast food and sit down, cafes and bakeries. You name it!! There were numerous shopping stores, from clothing to electronics to souvenirs to travel stuff etc. If u need help, just ask anybody and they will be more than happy to guide u to the right place.

Getting a ticket from the vending machines was a little challenging for me as I was still jet lagged and confused. The ride from airport to Zurich Main Station downtown was uneventful. At least I made it there with no issue. But I wish there are more instructions and directions for tourists like me.

Anyway, there's plenty of retail shops in the train station from Migros (one of the staple groceries in Switzerland, but they don't sell alcohol), to Laderach Swiss chocolate, to a really good beer shop I think it's called World of Beers and you guessed it they have a really top notch selection of international beers!

The most crazy and insanely expensive city I've ever been in my life. I would have lasted one half a day, maybe! The Bahnhof Basel SBB took me away and I'm so grateful. I wasn't sure what to expect being in my first train station ever and in a foreign country to boot…read more A very large, state of the art display board with all the information you need to make it to your train on time. Track, time, rail line etc. I found the station very clean and very friendly with a police presence that was willing to help if you had questions. The tourist information booth was in plain sight and provided lots of pamphlets, maps and recommendations for just about anything you need. I was amazed at how many trains were going to so many places around Europe. Again my first experience in a train station so I was a little bit in aww. lol With a nice selection of food court and retail shops you could use to kill some time if you were early for your connection. And a short walk to many traditional Swiss restaurants right on the Reuss river where it meets Lake Luzern. But be warned. Trains arrive and depart on time! So don't get distracted with the shops. Lol All in all a very quick but nice experience. I would definitely be ok with traveling by train again.

I booked both hotels on line and even though I inputted Basel, once we were ready to change hotels I found out that our hotel was actually in Lorrach which was in Germany. Hey! What? Fortunately the reviews comforted me since previous cruise goers also stayed in that town and it wasn't too far away and very easy to get to. This station was directly across the street from our hotel. Awesome! The big plus was our hotel gave us transportation vouchers we could use to get back to Basel the next morning. The best and worst of it? The station had an elevator from the station platform to the street level. Always travel light...we never learn. If it had been any other day but Sunday, I would have been an ecstatic camper. Why? Take a walk into the town... keep walking and you see so many charming photo ops. There are LOTS of really nice quality clothing stores and even better SHOE stores with really nice and comfy styles and colors. Only hitch? ALL the stores are closed on Sunday. DANG! The huge and packer ice cream, dessert cafe was open. Who knew people here loved ice cream in all shapes and sizes at 4:30 in the afternoon? The one woman who spoke English told us there was a good Greek Restaurant which would be open at 5 pm. She pointed down the street to the awning. Yes, we had a nice dinner and an even yummier baklava then returned to the hotel in darkness. Thank goodness for this tiny German train station which afforded us safe and easy transportation plus a wonderful window shopping experience
