This station is in the city center, 10 minutes walking from the Basler Munster cathedral, and near all the city famous landmarks. Like everything in Switzerland, it's clean, very neat and well organized!

I love Bahnhofs! I love European trains! Heck, I even love American ones too, I guess. Basel Bahnhof is a very clean and easy to navigate station. Like most European train stations, it's located in the center of the city. There are several food options and two Magazine/Newspaper stands, which also have carry-on food items available. This Bahnhof is a Lyria (Double-Decker) TGV stop, from either Zürich or Paris. Our trip to Paris was barely three hours and half hours and cost us $150 for First Class, upper deck seats. Nice! Absolutely a better, more relax way to travel. Btw, The Lyria TGV arrives on Platform #6 about 5 minutes before it's departure time.

Best train station in Switzerland. There is plenty of space. Yes, wide open spaces: a large hall with a very high ceiling with ornate paintings and Alp images and a long Passarelle that Leads over the tracks and not underneath, like zurich, schaffhausen and bern. There are stores to chose from: news, coffee, bakery, sweets, chocolates, sandwiches, tea, books, lackerli, fruit, skis, jackets, groceries and tourism. Basel SBB station is a breath of fresh air! Very large, splendidly spacious and with large clocks. Safe, bright, well-stocked travel HUB. Review: 5

No one runs a train network as well as the Swiss. Not even the Germans. Our train from Strasbourg arrived on time (to the minute!) and we changed here to catch the next train on to Zürich with about a half hour to get a snack and buy the ongoing ticket from a kiosk. Big, beautiful, modern station that was super easy to navigate with luggage. Busy with people but nearly everyone wearing their masks as is appropriate in 2021. Candy, sandwiches, lots of coffee, some retail shopping. Great spot to pick up something to eat on the train (yes, you can eat and drink on the trains). Signage was super clear to find our train. And thanks to the Schengen Agreement, no need for passports to cross the border here. [I visited Basel in 2011 before there was yelp.ch. Not much has changed.] [Review 16453 overall - 6 in Switzerland - 1961 of 2021.]

The customer service center was very friendly and helpful in assisting us with purchasing our 3-day Swiss pass. Also, recommended a whole day of activities that are free to do while visiting Switzerland on the Pass.

This is another one of those centrally located railway stations, but then again that really isn't surprising at all since a lot of these stations were built back before cars even existed, so the towns were pretty small and compact. Anyway it is a gorgeous station with a gorgeous exterior, though I didn't wander all that far from the station since my onward train was arriving. However, I did make the time to actually look around the station as opposed to just standing on the platform.

Tram in Basel -easy to catch to various parts of Basel just outside the central train station.

Central Basel easily reached via the train from the airport, and a crossroads for trams going to various parts of the city. Easy to access trains to other picturesque areas like Lake Lucerne and Zurich. English speaking information assistants and servers at the variety of shops offering good food. A model for public transportation that runs in time. I have high praise for the tram system, too. A friend left a purse with keys, passport and other important items on a tram on a Saturday when the main office was closed, but the tram drivers and other tram employees managed to find it and return it with all belongings intact. A miracle accomplished by honest and efficient workers! Good show!

Follow this sign out of the station!

Nothing outstanding in this station, but the trains run like clockwork :) Bookstore, some shopping, some panini and coffee places, etc. Great building architecture from the outside. Major tram station in from of the train station. American fast food (McDonald's, Burger King, Starbucks) within 1 minute of the train station exit. Hotels close by.

I have used this station a half dozen times or so in the past three or four years or so and it is among the better ones I have used in Switzerland. The central location is quite well placed for those coming to Basel for either holiday or business. The accessibility by foot or by auto is quite easy. The availability of trams for transportation to the station, or for onward movement within Basel after arrival, is also an important feature. The shops and amenities available in the station are reasonably plentiful. One can get a coffee and a light bite or snacks for the train. Items like Swiss chocolate can also readily be purchased. The station is well labeled and the platforms are easy to find. The building itself is nice enough. While not really standout in terms of its architecture, it is spacious, tidy and well kept. In all, it is a reasonably good station to travel in and out of Basel.

Ok, what is there to say about a Swiss train station? Nothing much.. Reasonably sized, with food shops, Migros (also Take Away), Coop Pronto, Sprüngli, InterDiscount and many others, the train station in Basel has nothing more or less than what you would expect for it, given that Basel is Switzerland's second largest city. Less fancy and less welcoming than the one in Zürich though. At peak hours (especially 6pm) it is very crowded, so try to avoid it if you can. Fast trains to Zürich e.g. you have every half an hour (.07 and .33) and the journey takes 51-53 minutes. Bike parking downstairs and, needless to say, trains that almost always arrive/leave on time.

I booked both hotels on line and even though I inputted Basel, once we were ready to change hotels I found out that our hotel was actually in Lorrach which was in Germany. Hey! What? Fortunately the reviews comforted me since previous cruise goers also stayed in that town and it wasn't too far away and very easy to get to. This station was directly across the street from our hotel. Awesome! The big plus was our hotel gave us transportation vouchers we could use to get back to Basel the next morning. The best and worst of it? The station had an elevator from the station platform to the street level. Always travel light...we never learn. If it had been any other day but Sunday, I would have been an ecstatic camper. Why? Take a walk into the town... keep walking and you see so many charming photo ops. There are LOTS of really nice quality clothing stores and even better SHOE stores with really nice and comfy styles and colors. Only hitch? ALL the stores are closed on Sunday. DANG! The huge and packer ice cream, dessert cafe was open. Who knew people here loved ice cream in all shapes and sizes at 4:30 in the afternoon? The one woman who spoke English told us there was a good Greek Restaurant which would be open at 5 pm. She pointed down the street to the awning. Yes, we had a nice dinner and an even yummier baklava then returned to the hotel in darkness. Thank goodness for this tiny German train station which afforded us safe and easy transportation plus a wonderful window shopping experience

I had been clrver enough to book a room at the adjacent hotel Intercity from which you simply step out at platform 1 straight from the breakfast room. The platform mostly used for some reason. I love to ride trains but I'm definitely not impressed by Deutsche Bahn for many reasons, main one is obviously that the trains are most always delayed (only 1 of the 6 train rides I took during a week was on time). That English information on displays and speakers is not a basic and common thing plus they keep changing the train sets so despite the fact that you should board in front of the train for your booked seat you end up running in vain on a busy platform to reach your seat at the very end of the train are other reasons for my non-fondness of the German railway. Still, Freiburg train station is a pretty decent one as far as train stations go, with cafes and restaurants and a few shops too.
