We have seen long time companies gone and them in.. then also gone also for one - very shortly. If a complex is demanding it may not be a match. They lean toward the accounting aspect. They are not boots on the ground. They are offsite and can coordinate sending of documents more than anything, at their reliable but measured pace. They serve a key function where an on site manager often will not be able to keep up with paperwork. That being said.. Any complex should also keep an onsite person for calls during or after 5 pm and not defer to TTPM. Polite and courteous most of the time. They were ok on a closing with documents but took far too long to get things going with calls all needing to be returned. No person picks up. My thoughts are to manage this type of work for so many units - would be to have a receptionist that always picks up and transfers call in CASE of an emergency etc.

Kim is organized & on top of everything. Living only part time on Shelter Island Kim makes me feel as if I have my best friend watching out for me. Kim helps with organizing workers, picking up packaged, putting out our outdoor furniture in the spring and away in the fall. She even suggests things I may need done, gutter cleaning, shutting off the water in the winter, she sees everything and reports back. Very important to me is communication and she is there anytime I need to discuss something that needs her attention. We also rent our home a few times over the summer, Kim checks them in and out and is there if they have any questions. Its almost hard for me to write this as I want her all to myself and my review will help your decision easier to make as its a no brainier! Kim is the best on the Island, hands down!

Thankfully, our attorney pushed them to review their own rules, which clearly state that subletting is not allowed--despite Cory and Mary both telling us it was permitted. It was obvious they were unaware of their own written policies. The experience was utterly incompetent, and they were nearly impossible to reach throughout the process. I never go out of my way to write a review, but this was infuriating enough to make me make sure word gets out.

They are effectively increasing our common charges by about 100% because of an incident that occurred years ago and has not been rectified. It was claimed that they cannot get reasonable insurance quotes because there is an open claim. If I were an insurance company and I saw that they have not been handling this issue properly, I would not want to offer insurance either. So at a community meeting addressing the large and rushed assessment, I held up a sign while everyone was leaving that said "fire corrupt management". As Dave from HPM walked up to me I stated "it's not personal". He then threatened to sue me personally for defamation of character. The management company serves at the pleasure of the homeowner, not the other way around.

Disclaimer: this review is written by Will's partner, who hates making accounts but hates Farnam…read moreeven more. Thank you Will xx DO NOT RENT HERE. Greed, incompetence, and apparent hatred for their tenants. My partner rented from Farnam for seven years, but I couldn't tolerate more than one. After fixing up our poorly maintained apartment and receiving confirmation for a lease renewal, we were suddenly forced to relocate at tremendous personal expense. Farnam didn't even communicate this information to us; my partner had to leave work and drive to their office, as always, to find out they had lied to us yet again. (There are more horror stories that I won't even get into here.) All this strife so that landlord Carol could continue raising rents for the next sorry tenant. The brokers are friendly while coaxing you into a lease; after that point, they genuinely don't care whether you live or die. They will lie to you for no other reason than their own laziness and convenience, and that's only if you manage to get anyone to talk to you in the first place. I'm disgusted with Joey Felton and Zak Kampton, but I'm still not sure whether they're malicious or just incompetent. Carol Lopez-Horsford is evil. I heard her shouting and degrading the maintenance staff multiple times while I was a tenant, and she appears to be hated by all who have ever known her (including brokers who escaped to other companies). The maintenance workers were the only positive part of my experience, but even they couldn't manage to keep mice out of our apartment. Yes, New Haven has a pest problem, but it doesn't help when the house is literally full of holes. Of the four apartments I've rented in this city, Farnam's was the worst maintained and worst managed by far. We are thankful every day to no longer be in business with Farnam. It's harder to find a decent private landlord, but so worth the effort! P.S. It's common knowledge that they buy fake positive reviews. You can literally tell which ones those are on this Yelp page.
