We had some business downtown so this was the perfect place to stop for a coffee. We sat close to…read morethe building, which is great because it was a little cool and they have blankets out. This is a gorgeous historical building. We ordered coffee right away, and were hoping to order some cake when the waitress came back. After about 15 minutes when she came out to take another order, I asked about our coffee, and she said it was on the way.. When the coffee finally came it was great, Lavazza, but we decided not to order cake because we didn't want to sit there another hour. I actually asked to pay which also took another 10 minutes. So I can't really talk about the food or the cake, but the coffee was excellent. If you have time and are looking for a fun place to people watch this is it. Of course, it is right on the Hauptwache, so you're in the center of everything. Please also enjoy my video of the church bells, which went on for about five minutes. And last, but not least I just want to mention one more thing. In Germany, a tip is not expected, but you give it when the service is good. Usually people round up to the nearest Euro, or maybe to the next. My mom ended up paying, and rounded up an extra, I hopped in and said to add an extra Euro, because I thought maybe the waitress was having a bad day, the service was certainly not great. . But the waitress got snippy and said she didn't have change for that, threw the ten Euro change bill on the table, and walked away. Maybe they prefer you pay with card?

Servers were busy but efficient and unfortunately not all of them speak English (cue to learn Germans!!). Ordered chicken schnitzel and some bread. Food was okay and not too expensive.

Not a place for obscure flavors, the focus instead on ingredients that include imported Sicilian Pistachios and Vanilla from Madagascar, it is while queued with families that one can see staff carefully scooping bowls and cones plus novelties like Brioche Sandwiches, the prices surprisingly low with €3 yielding a Waffle Cone packed by three flavors. Using high-fat Cream and not a lot of added Sugar, the resultant product smooth and creamy, it was after brief perusal on-approach that selections were made without tasting, the first lick of Stracciatella attesting to good base ribboned by crackling Chocolate while "Il Sogno del Montalbano" is subtly flavored by Hazelnuts with texture and taste dialed up by Biscotti Crumbles and Cocoa. Trying to save Pistachio for last, a small Gelato trowel aiding the cause, it was not since Milan that such purity came across in something frozen, whether any sweetener at all was added questionable and the quantity of Nuts incorporated making one wonder how Eissalon Firenze keeps prices so low.

A conglomeration of some fifty kiosks and carts, the bulk Cash-only and fluent only in German, it is beginning at 08h00 that the Altstadt area begins to fill with patrons, several Chefs in white seen examining Produce or organic Meats while roasters fired their grills in preparation for the nine hours to follow. Located at Konstablerwache 12, a nearby metro stop providing access since parking fills quickly, it was after taking a look around that stop one was made at a table between Vogelsberger Kartoffel und Bärlauchbratwurst and Original Vogelsberger Holzofenbrot, the former's Currywurst intensely spiced but a touch sweet while Pastries from two Women first impressed by way of their Caramelized Hazelnut Braid, then with soft and springy Doughnuts. A bit underwhelmed by Vogelsberger Holzofenbrot's Berliner, the Jam off-centered and skimpy, better bites were found amidst Bee Sting Cake shellacked in Almonds as well as their buttery Pie Crust brushed with Custard and topped with poached Rhubarb juxtaposing big chunks of Brown Sugar Streusel. Strolling further, a few choices including made-to-order Waffles debated, it was instead on Sausage and Pastry that Euros were again spent, the handmade Brat and Rindwurst from Bio-Bauernhof Wingenfeld both snappy over a great grind while Maja's Backwaren impressed with the best Pretzel found in Frankfurt for just 1€. Performing equally well with Marble Cake, the Crumb course but moist with Butter, it was a bit unfortunate that most of Maja's goods were sold in family-size portions, though the Poppy Seed Danish called Verschiedene Kaffeestückchen was delicious and managable for one while Donauwelle weighing almost half a kilogram more than justified its 4€ price by eating something like a Cream Cheese Brownie dialed up by Sour Cherries.

It is big enough that it has everything you need and room to peruse without bumping into folks, but small enough to not be overwhelming. Wide selection of meats, veggies, fruits & baked goods. There is one row of stalls dedicated entirely to wines and apple wine varietals. The apple wine with elderberry was delicious! For those more inclined towards beer, there was a beer stall offering Helles and Dunkel. I will definitely be back!
