My kids were served water and chocolate covered pretzels while we did the tasting. Then they played in the vineyards while we had a bottle of rosé at the picnic tables. Superb. I received a bottle of their house blend -- 'Nosey Neighbour Red' -- from the daughter for Christmas. It's a blend of some great reds -- Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. There is a caption on the bottle's back label, that states - "Sit Back, Relax, and Enjoy!" - and that definitely sounded like a plan to do soon. Looks like today is 'the' day -- my first taste was just poured, and tried, and I am so glad I did not wait any longer. Rich in colour, full-bodied, and so flavourful. Next tastes await an upcoming happy hour this afternoon, where I can more truly "Sit Back, Relax, and Enjoy" more!! Hopefully, some time soon in the new year, daughter and I will get out to 'Backyard Vineyards' for an on-the-scene look, browse, and shop. read more

Came on a busy day in May last year. We were not part of a tour but the staff were able to greet us and help us with some wine tasting despite the big crowd. I really liked their backyard and vineyard area - spacious with picnic tables where you can relax and lounge. I finally got a chance to come and check out Backyard Vineyards! I believe they literally are our backyard neighbors...if not...very close! I have had a few of their wines before so it was really nice see their beautiful tasting room and have a little wine tasting! I would have to say that the Bacchus wine was probably my favourite! It was neat to taste and hear about qthe difference in how Backyard used the Bacchus grape that they source from another local vineyard! Bacchus is one of my favourite wines...I liked that Backyard's version tends to be a bit more dry. The Sparkling Rosé was really nice as well! The girls were super knowledgeable with the wines and very hospitable. I actually came in to pick up a generous donation for a local community event and they invited me to have a wine tasting while I was there! The patio area is lovely as well. A very beautifully rustic and homey place to enjoy a quick wine tasting and/or sit down with some food and your favourite wine. Staff were really friendly and explained many of the wines as we sipped away. Once we found a favourite, my girlfriend's and I sat at one of the long wooden table benches and order off the menu. Did a wine tour for the first time with my family around the Langley area and BackYard was one of our stops. Now I'm not a huge wine person, but everything recommend on the tasting menu was quite delicious! The staff and service was also excellent, very friendly and even recommended other good places to try! They have quite a big "back yard" area to hang out, even had live music and a food truck! Pleasantly surprised and blown away by Backyard Vineyards. We came here for a relaxing afternoon away from the city, and loved it! Walking into the Vineyard, the tasting room is set up to the right, and you're able to taste 4 wines for $4 - so naturally we decided to taste 8 wines amongst the 2 of us. After the tasting, we opted to share a bottle of Gerwurztraminer and a cheese + charcuterie plate to enjoy outside on the picnic tables. They deducted our tastings from our total price, which was nice! The cheese plate had 4 different cheeses and 4 different meats, delicious! Coming from NJ, we're avid winery go-ers, (though, usually low expectation-NJ-wine-drinkers), and we loved Backyard Vineyards! This would be an amazing spot to have in our neck of the woods. The place was fun, low key, and delicious wine. We ended up tasting 4 reds, 4 whites, and then bonus tasted the brut! Below are my thoughts. Whites :: Blanc de Noir Brut - Handmade the hard way ('methode traditionnelle') from 100% Estate grown Pinot Noir with notes of brioche, biscuit and apples. Pacific Rim Wine Competition - SILVER. Light and clean, very drinkable bubbly. :: Nosey Neighbor White - Lemon gold wine offers aromas of lemon, lime, tangerine zest, melon, apple, cantaloupe, and honeycomb. On the palate, the 2017 blend is a medium-plus bodied with wonderful balance, persistent acidity and flavor profile of candied apple, lychee nut, orange rind, pear, and apricot. Clean, crisp, delicious. :: Reisling - Light gold wine with hues of lemon, the 2016 vintage is characterized by high-toned aromatics of nectarines, apricots, Meyer lemon, and a beautiful bouquet of white flowers. On the palate, the wine shows strong notes of lemon, pear, mandarin oranges, and honeycomb. The nectarine was the first thing we tasted - it was clean, crisp, and super yummy. Second favorite wine! :: Rose - Made with 100% Pinot Noir. A light pink appearance leads into a bouquet of orange rind, watermelon, strawberry, and pomegranate. Ripe raspberry, figs, marzipan, plum, and blueberry dominate the mouth. GREAT rose - drinkable, almost dry - not too sweet. :: Gerwurztraminer - Pale yellow wine carries the classic aromas of rose petal, lychee nuts, Ruby Red grapefruit, as well as mango and citrus notes. This vintage greets the palate with notes of allspice, honey, orange, apricot, pineapple, and cantaloupe. We tasted the lychee, pineapple, and cantaloupe. This was our favorite wine - we grabbed a bottle to enjoy outside! Reds: :: Nosey Neighbor Red - Deep ruby red shows characteristics of strawberry, ripe red cherry, plums, cedar, tobacco leaf, and a dried herbal life on the nose. :: Merlot - Nuanced nose of cedar, cinnamon, cloves, red plum, raspberry, cherry pie, leather, and espresso with a plush palate of crushed raspberry, black cherry, smoky vanilla, pomegranate, and cocoa. :: Cabernet Franc - A deep ruby Cabernet Franc with intense aromas of ripe plum, blackberries, cedar, cloves, tobacco leave, and black tea. Good wine. I like the atmosphere of the wine tasting room and the winery itself as a whole. It's a must if your in Langley on a wine tour. It's one of the best wineries in south Langley. Their prices are very competitive and it's a great product. The porch wine is fantastic. Sit outside have a bottle and a little snack in the sun. Well worth it. I would skip the sparkling wine. Too expensive and not great. If you become a member you can drop in anytime for a complementary tasting. Some of the best that Langley has to offer. read more

I came here with a friend for a wine tour and tasting. It was a sunny afternoon on Labour Day weekend. The vineyard was lovely and our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. There is a covered patio area if you want to relax outside. We each had a platter with cheese, fruit, nuts, and chocolate to pair with the wine we were tasting. We took our time with the food and wine. Since we weren't in a rush, they gave us even more wine to try (other people in our tour group had left already). I took home a bottle of the Nosey Neighbour white and red. It was a really nice way to spend the afternoon. read more

We have found the staff very friendly and always willing to help us out. We belong to their wine club and find their wine great.

We held a bridal shower here and it was fantastic! We did a wine tasting and then had platters of nuts, cheese, fruit, meats & chocolate to nibble on while we visited and opened gifts. Went to this winery today. It was a second chance for this winery as last time we went it was really bad service and sub par wine. Today we went for a birthday celebration in a limo and were turned away for being over the limit. First, I understand that there's a limit of service as someone who has been a server for many years. However, we are not driving and none of us have gone past the limit where it would be unserviceable; we were enjoying our time and having fun as women that are able to go out on limited time due to family obligations. The server singled out one of our group which was very insulting and interesting enough that person had the least amount of alcohol in the group. Will never come her again and will never suggest it to anyone else. Update based on response: It would have been beneficial for the manager to have come and had a conversation with the group as they would have seen we were not intoxicated (no slurring words or stumbling). In fact, we had only had about 1.5-2 glasses of wine at that point in the day. Perhaps instead of assuming the worst, there should be more communication to avoid trouble in the future. read more

On a beautiful sunny Saturday, I decided it was a day for winery hopping in Langley! My afternoon started out at Backyard Vineyards, which was recommended by my friend and fellow Yelp Elite member. I was automatically amazed by how beautiful it was on the vineyard. The entrance is bold and inviting. Once you walk in, the tasting bar is to the right and to the left you have tables where you can sit and enjoy some wine, and a cheese platter if you wish. Vineyard tours are also offered here but must be booked ahead of time. I decided to taste some wines for today, though I definitely do plan to come back for a tour once it's warmer out. I was presented with the full wine menu, and could choose 4 to sample for $4 plus tax. Out of the four I chose I enjoyed the Riesling and Gossip the most. The lady serving, I found out, was a sommelier. It was nice chatting with her and hearing her opinions on the wines and pairing suggestions. I ended up leaving with a bottle of Gossip, which waived my tasting fee! My experience at Backyard Vineyards was excellent and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. read more

The newly renovated tasting room is beautifully done, adding a little more sophistication to the space. We were welcomed with generous tastings supplied by the knowledgeable but approachable staff. We decided to stay for a glass, which we drank by the fireplace (throw blankets supplied!). The Syrah is a clear winner (especially for the price of $22!) but all the reds, in particular, are done very well. The Reserve Cabernet Franc was not available for tasting, but based on the quality of the non-reserve Cab Franc, I picked up a bottle as a potential Impress-The-Hostess gift. The only thing that would have made the visit better would be more comfortable seating in the fireside area, but then again, if that was the case, we may never have left :) read more

We've done a few wine tastings through groupon, and we've gone to backyards vineyards twice and both times I have been super impressed with the tour, tasting, and food pairings. You get one food tray per couple, good size tastings of a good selection of their wines, and the food is quite generous. The wine is good quality and an excellent price. I've come out of there both times with a couple bottles of wine! They have renovated their tasting room and its quite cozy and a very nice environment to keep drinking the wine after the tasting is finished. You don't want to leave. This has got to be one of the best, and well organized wine tour/tastings offers out there. I highly recommend it. read more

If there are wine tour vans in the parking lot, don't bother going in. Their tiny tasting room isn't made for it. We went there to buy a case over the weekend and could not get anyone's help. I have several issues with the way I was treated when I came in with a group for a tasting. I don't know what was more infuriating the sexist approach with which it was handled or the fact that this business tried to charge us for services not rendered.
