About a 24-page weekly independent paper covering the middle to norther Oregon coast…read more Cool periodical with some interesting articles, examples from the issue I grabbed in Depoe Bay: Coastal Living names Bay City restaurant as a dive (need to go there!) and ospreys returning to the coast and how birders are excited they are back because their nest had been relocated also talked about how their numbers are on the increase since the ban on DDT took effect. Departments: Coast Calendar - calendar of events for things going on with contact and location information Coming Soon - More local events, example: Mutt Masters Dog Show! Crossword and Sudoku (aka Puzzles) - The New York Times Crossword, Isaac Asimov's Super Quiz (copyright Ken Fisher via Barracade Books Inc.) Dining Guide - A double column page of advertisements and coupons for local places to eat. Get Out - Events with the community in mind ie- Reach the Beach bike ride, SOLV clean up day, Bounty (fishing, river, and estuary celebration) Lively - Other events on the coast. {High school production of Little Shop of Horrors}. Live Music (Sound Waves) - Bands, music festivals. Real Estate - local property advertisements - 2bed/2bath Depoe Bay Condo for $589K, dang! Tide Table - Quirkiest feature of the paper. Sourced from NOAA and the Mark O. Hatfield Marine Science Center and sponsored by a donut shop in Lincoln City called Henry's Lighthouse Donuts. You can use the tide table to help find tide pools in Tillamook Bay, Garibaldi, Siletz Bay, Lincoln City/Taft, Hatfield Marine Science Center, and Newport. Other tidbit that is funny is a caveat in the bottom of table "If you're piloting the New Carissa 2 around rocky jetties, talk to the harbormaster." That's funny because the New Carissa was a freighter that ran aground in Coos Bay in February, 1999. The Top Five - Top 5 coastal cities with interesting activities or events happening soon. Other departments/features of note: Coastal Weather Almanac. Pictures of a humming bird that frequent the Oregon Coast Today's Otis office. Published by oread media, inc. I couldn't find any relation to other papers through a simple google and linked-in search.

Online or in print -- this is the place to check the coast calendar for upcoming events…read more Oregon Coast Today is a weekly tabloid-sized newspaper / companion website for the Lincoln County coastal area -- and so far, it has been the most useful resource I've found for a consolidated calendar for the communities in this stretch of coast. Each week it has regular stories about events and activities in the Lincoln City area (northern Lincoln County) to as far south as Yachats and Florence. It also includes an annotated calendar, reviews of local theater productions, coupons and lots of photos of interest to both locals and those visiting the area. So far, the information has been reliable, and the often interesting local color stories are worth a glance. An excellent way to find out what's going on in this neck of the woods. So to speak. Read it online at www.oregoncoasttoday.com ; or you can find it in newpaper dispensers in high foot-trafic areas like Nye Beach and the Depoe Bay wayside, restaurants and gift shops, or hotel lobbies.
