Like nearby Mackie Mayor and Altrincham Market, it's an old building which has been beautifully restored. If you've visited either of those sites then you know what to expect - a variety of food and drink vendors around the sides and seating in the middle. Grab a table, note the number and then go order your food. You pay when you order and then someone will bring the food to your table when it's ready. There's a great variety of foods here - pizza, pasta, Indian and Thai when we went - and we had an absolutely amazing Indian themed fried chicken burger topped with an onion bhaji. Absolutely delicious. There's beer and wine available too, plus a tea and coffee stand. I have it on good authority though that some of the beers here are pricier than you'd find in other nearby bars. But that's a minor grumble. For the setting, the food and the atmosphere, the Produce Hall is definitely worth a visit.

While there I had a couple of coffees, nice tasting and good value and also a delicious chicken club with a side of chips. The club was made and chips tasty to boot - though I think that was the most unhealthy thing on the menu as lots of wholesome and healthy dishes were coming out of the kitchen! Pokusevski's provided the perfect spot to spend a few hours working away on our laptops (free wifi) and enjoying some great food & drink! I stopped in for lunch with a few friends and was really impressed by the Mediterranean heavy menu which included several interesting salads, paninis, sandwiches, daily changing quiches and several types of platters. I went for the halloumi salad with olives and roasted peppers which was delicious and very generous with the amount of cheese. In fact everyone's lunches looked very impressive, particularly my friend's platter which I was massively jealous of when it arrived, being full of several of my favourite things including prosciutto, olives, sun dried tomatoes, mozzarella and what looked to be an entire ciabatta loaf - I definitely know what I'm ordering next time! Unbeknown to me prior to my visit is that in addition to the main cafe area there is a good sized courtyard at the rear which is perfect for a warm summer's day as it's a real sun trap. We sat out here and it almost felt like we could have been on holiday - almost! As well as the café they also do a large takeaway menu and have a deli counter of meats, cheeses, olives etc as well as freshly baked bread (delicious bagels) and posh cupboard items.

A Turkish restaurant with Iranian owners might seem a strange mix at first but the unique Persian themed establishment turned out to be a perfect scenario for a Eastern cuisine aficionado like me when I visited recently. The restaurant is surprisingly big with 75 covers and decor is nothing short of stunning. The walls adorn Persian art and each diner also gets to dine with their own unique table cover art. The food isn't bad either. Having chosen a weekday for my latest foodie adventure I wasn't expecting it to be overly busy and it wasn't. This meant I could have a proper gander, take plenty of pics and chat to the manager. It turned out to be a great choice resulting in a fantastic first impression which concluded with me letting the chef pick my two mains (Which at £12.95 I thought was decent value given the quality of the food) So, what was the food like? Well, I started with the 'Olivieh' which was a mild yet utterly delicious side to go with the Lamb sizzler main. At first it looked like a yogurt based chutney type concoction that usually goes with the lamb, but upon investigation turned out to be something much better. Made with shredded chicken, potatoes, egg and mixed with some mayonnaise the recipe seemed so simple yet laced with genius (According to my taste buds anyway) I'm definitely making the stuff at home and cheat claiming it as my own at my next shindig. The lamb sizzler was the main attraction however and boy was it box office. Cooked in some special sweet (Chinese style sauce) the meat was tender but had a barbecue like taste and the vegetables that were cooked and served with it were divine. The accompanying rice and salad complemented its taste perfectly and though I forget the name of the two sauces served on the side (I MUST have them again) they were sensational. The incredible, belly busting night was rounded off with a special home made ice cream. I'd never tasted anything like it. It was the culinary equivalent of some kind of weird yet wonderful foodie dream. It completely confused the hell out of my foodie senses. It looked like ice cream but tasted like.... hmmm how shall I put this.... a cross between Turkish delight, frozen yoghurt and ice cream. Daaaamn it was good though. The only downside was I was too full to finish it, doh! (The lamb sizzlerwas a sizable main and had wiped me out) The only slight downside to this place is its location in the heart of Stockport. Let's face it, it's not like everyone from Greater Manchester flocks here for a night out/dining out experiance when Friday comes knocking. But perhaps, just perhaps... Istanbul Palace can change that (They have a belly dancing entertainment night, which looks ace and I might check out) It certainly has changed my mindset about coming to these neck of the woods. It's a smashing little foodie hidden gem which is guaranteed to be not as busy and rowdy as most of the city centre haunts if you're looking to get away from the kitchen and dine out. Despite a bit of a parking nightmare on the road, it gets much better after office hours (After 6pm parking is free) when it's quietened down. With it being only 10 minutes walk away from Stockport train station (which in turn is around 10 minutes away from Piccadilly) it's not that difficult/time consuming to get to from the city centre. The bus routes are also quite good with the restaurant being 5 minutes walk from the central station. In fact I like the place so much I might register a yelp event for those interested in checking the place out with me when I return. So watch this space, or if you're not a space watcher check it out your yelpity yelp self!

I immediately offered to pay, took my card out of my pocket, only to be informed that they did not accept card payments, only cash. I was told to go to a cashpoint which was inside a neighbouring shop, however, this was "Out of order", so I returned to the Mayflower, explained the situation, and then was redirected to another cashpoint which was on a parade of shops further down the road...all most inconvenient. I returned within a matter of 3-4 minutes if that, and was more than surprised to see that my order was ready....it did not seem possible that the food could have been cooked so swiftly, let alone packed and bagged.... Upon returning home, we served the food and everyone agreed that the standard was extremely poor...The Vegetable Chow Mein was dreadful, hardly any noodles, and mainly consisted of those pre-prepared undercooked carrots and bamboo shoots,we counted three tiny pieces of green pepper, and that was as good as it good,no baby corn or Broccoli etc etc...we were highly disappointed to say the very least, The remainder of the food left much to be desired, the portion sizes were smaller than we are accustomed to, and overall, it was far too expensive for what we received...needless to say that I shall never return to the Mayflower.

Added to this now is Little Lanka, which I believe is the only Sri Lankan restaurant in Manchester (there seems to be one in Glossop). Added to our long-existing outstanding pubs, Stockport is really doing well! The same can't be said for this location, which has had two restaurants (Nepalese and vegetarian Indian) close since 2015. It's a a bit of a trek from Stockport station and parking is hit and miss - street parking is limited although we got a spot literally outside the front door, not metered, on a Saturday night. The 192 takes contactless now, so the bus is also an option! Consistently with reviews on tripadvisor, we got a lovely welcome here. The menu is full of unfamiliar dishes and it's not easy to get an explanation, but luckily google has plenty of handy images and explanations! We started with the parippu vadai and spicy fish cutlets. The parippu vadai is like a fritter (which isn't obvious from the menu). The cutlets are actually more like breaded balls. I thought they were super tasty although bf preferred the fritters (we got 3 of each so this worked out well for the 3rd!). Both came with the same two dips - emly (tamarind) chutney and red chutney - which were outstanding. For a main course I got the fish hoppers. You get a bowl of fish curry, a bowl of coconot sambol and then two piles of noodles that seem to come in discs. I didn't have enough curry for the noodles but couldn't have eaten all the noodles anyway, it was a very substantial portion. The curry tasted great but by the end I was a bit sick of disposing of fish bones, I would suggest a meat version if you're not feeling energetic. Meanwhile bf absolutely loved his lamb koththu - this is also complete (i.e. carbs included) dish because it involves strips of roti mixed in with the meat, egg and sauce. This may be why you're advised to order a small portion of curry on the side, to make sure your meal is not too dry, but bf said he would have been fine without. On the table next to us, the couple said the king prawn devil dish was amazing so I will try that next time. Bf got some King beer which he said might actually make him like lager. For dessert we had a caramel sweet which was interesting but I'm not mega keen on any of the Indian sub-continental desserts I've tried - don't love the spice factor. They do have natural yoghurt with honey and ice cream as well though, and will be further expanding the menu. I'd recommend a trip out to Stockport to try this place: it's good value, different from what you'd get elsewhere and overall we were really happy with the taste and lovely presentation of all our dishes.
