The first second we got there, the innkeeper was inviting and he offered us homemade cookies (which were sooooo good). Then he brought us to our room which was the Blue Ridge. The room was absolutely perfect and very clean. It had a gorgeous view of the mountains and the downtown area. We also ordered chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate my boyfriend and my 4th anniversary and they were very tasty-- we got 12 for $25. In the room also came a book with recommendations for restaurants, sites to visit around the area, and shopping. It also included how many miles away from the inn... very thorough! Breakfast was also amazing. Genuinely it was so so so good!! The scrambled eggs were fluffy, the pancakes with blueberry compote were so light and delicious, and who doesn't love bacon? They had coffee brewing at 7:00 am and had a wide variety of teas. Overall for our overnight stay, we paid I believe roughly $200 which seems totally worth it!! Especially in comparison to the other inns in the area. If we come back to the area, I will for sure go back to the Friendly City Inn!

So hospitable. Nice wrap-around porch well appointed with rocking chairs (which we enjoyed in only the sunrise hours as it is July and brutally hot and humid.) The B&B is fully air conditioned with individual settings for each guest room. We stayed in the Silk Room, which is enormous! In the antebellum era, silkworms were raised in there and fed harvested mulberry leaves. Modern amenities such as walk-in showers are blended well with the historic features so that there is no jarring sense of disconnect. Breakfast is served each morning by the Innkeepers and is a feast for the eye as well as the palate. Coffee, tea, and ice are available in the dining room 24 hours. There is a shared refrigerator and microwave for guests' convenience. The common parlors downstairs are tastefully furnished with good antique pieces. We loved our brief stay, the last two nights of a two-week honeymoon. Back again someday? Hope so!

On our DC to North Carolina vacation, we stayed in this lovely, well manicured property located in a quiet area. We stayed in the main house, the Redbud Room, which was beautifully remodeled, comfortable and cozy and clean. The ensuite bathroom was well lit with all the amenities. We wish we had more days to enjoy our room. We loved it so much that we popped open a bottle of wine, ate snacks and watched movies for a romantic evening!

Jesse was quick to respond and happy to accommodate. All the touches were perfect- champagne in our fridge, a welcome note, an incredibly comfortable bed. The cottage was comfortable, beautifully decorated, spotless and just perfect. We were able to comfortably hunker down as ice and sleet fell- and enjoyed a much needed break from work life. The bathroom is perfect- we enjoyed the tub- candles, music and cocktails helped with relaxation. Recommendations for food were available, but we also mostly ate in- there is a microwave, induction stove, coffee and snacks. If you're considering staying here- do it. Thank you!

My aim here is constructive. The condition of the rooms we found to be dated and in need of repairs/upgrades. To make it short and easy I'll just list Pros vs Cons based on our experience. Pros: - Large amount of space inside room - Two bathroom sinks - Large mini fridge - Large TV channel selection - Conveniently located but away from city - Playground, pool, and small putting greens - Restaurant is simple and affordable ($11 breakfast) Cons: - Rooms are very loud. We heard every person around us like we lived together. Drunks next door made first night miserable. - Loud highway noise - Linens were worn and tattered - Bed didn't have fitted sheet - Light fixtures falling apart - Phones falling off walls - Showers were dated -Floors heavily stained

Please note it is a motel, so the door faces the road and if you're not used to hearing trucks speeding by all night, it might not be for you. The people were friendly and the room was clean. My issue was that the mini fridge kept making clanging sounds throughout the night and the walls are a bit thin. With the clanging, trucks and loud sounds, I did not get much sleep

Not much to do around so do not be disappointed if you still chose to come here. See it as a peaceful retreat. We did enjoy the Massanutten water park and the ice skating ring in Bridgewater for a new year eve with the kids! The Inn is a nice old house that has a lot of charme with the cracking floors. The owner is a very nice and friendly person. She made us some very good and filling home made breakfasts (except for the pancakes.... we did not found to our taste). We did also really appreciate the hot tube in the evening after our hike in the cold air of the mountains. The lower rating of 4 stars will be only for the fact we thought the place was not that clean : dust but hardwood floor not forgiving and bed sheets not pristine clean. Few items in china were not clean by previous user. Most certainly due to the fact that this is an old house with a lot of stuff around and tough to maintain alone? Won t blame her for that so much. We were also in the upstairs apartment with 2 rooms (kids were with us) which is in the old part of the house and does not look like the pictures you can see. Much older. The barn, which might be called cottage and or the other rooms for fewer people should be much nicer. But we found the price reasonable and at the end we will come back and still recommend it to other.
