I previously wrote a review stating that several of us were bitten by beg bugs after staying in the Lake House Cabin August 28-30 2015. The owners have since contacted me repeatedly and requested I remove the post because they believe it is false and misleading. So I want this to be as truthful as possible. Suzanne, one of the owners messaged me on yelp to say," "There are too many variables to YOUR situation that you also appear to be ignoring: you may have had them before you arrived; you live in an apartment (where it is more common to have bed bugs move from one unit to another;) you may have picked them up from staying with a friend; you may have moved them into your own apartment when you brought in some other item; your friends may have gotten them from you, etc." Here's the truth: Prior to our stay none of us had any bites on our bodies, after our stay 3 of us returned home and found 20+ bites all over our bodies. You can decide for yourself. I hope it will not upset them more, as them seem to be particularly aggressive to their customers who write poor reviews, but I am going to include the last part to my initial post: I know it is close to nature but we also found a couple mice were living in the cabin with us. The owners put mouse traps after the first night and we woke up on Sunday to 2 dead mice in the kitchen. Needless to say this was not an ideal way to wake up. read more

We stayed in the Back to Nature cabin for our kids ' fall break and absolutely loved it. The cabin was clean and located off a very private drive, surrounded by trees. Fire pit was available with firewood stocked for us. Kitchen was clean with nice selection of cookware and pans/dish ware etc for cooking and serving. The wrap around porch/deck was great for the kids to run around and play, and the surrounding woods were fun to hike around. Very quiet and private property. We were located about 10 minutes from downtown Nashville and the State park so getting out was easy. We will definitely be back! We are a family of 5 and had plenty of room (more than enough). read more

AVOID, Avoid, avoid like the plague if you want to have reliable accommodations for your family getaway. Rental contract was signed, deposit was made, and then reservation was illegally cancelled. They apparently left VM messages inquiring about the number of people in our party. I don't utilize voicemail, so never received them. I never would've thought my family trip could be jeopardized by lack of voicemail, over an issue that insignificant. They sent an email, asking the same question.The cabin sleeps 8, we weren't going to have over 4 adults and one child. I was figuring out if my elderly parents would be able to make the trip, and replied when they confirmed that they could. Everyone had taken time off work, made kennel reservations for pets, and planned our family trip, only to find out that they'd cancelled our reservation and rented the cabin to someone else for that timeframe. The Better Business Bureau will be investigating the breech of contract and unethical renting practices. In all my years of travel planning (which I do regularly) I've never experienced such a disregard for the law, not to mention people's time/money/plans. Find another option if you want to be sure that your getaway will actually be able to take place. read more

I emailed on TUESDAY to reserve the Lake House and asked what information I needed to send in order to secure the reservation. I got this response TODAY (THURSDAY): Sorry, but those dates already booked yesterday. It is best to call us at 812.335.1091 to secure a reservation. October books fast! -- Back to Nature Cabins ...812.335.1091 http://www.backtonaturecabins.com/ Glad to know that even though I asked to secure a reservation on TUESDAY, you gave someone else the same reservation on WEDNESDAY. Unacceptable. I'm happy to be giving my money to someone else. Apparently, they should stop encouraging online reservations. read more

After a very selective and strangely oppositional response from the owner, I decided to downgrade my review and have decided that I will not be returning in any capacity. Yes, I knew the lake was a mile away, just wanted to point out to others and I still find it strange that its called "The Lake House" when its just a cabin on a road a mile from a lake. We DID bring bug spray. Bug spray does not protect against wasps. It took the owners 20 hours to respond to a leaking shower, regardless of the "time stamp". Not sure why they would argue this. Also, we called them three times while there and called to set up the reservation. We were certainly not on an "email only" basis. I am honestly not sure what the owner was hoping to accomplish with their response other than showing their combative tone towards paying guests that had given an honest and mostly positive review. It seems like the owners forget that the people that stay with them are GUESTS. Problems with a stay aren't baseless complaints to be argued against, but places they could improve. Very sad for a nice little cabin. read more

We are from the Washington DC area and booked the Lake House to stay in because our daughter got married at an orchard in Bloomington and none of the condos in downtown bloomington were available. I am a city girl. I am NOT a cabin-in-the-woods girl. BUT....this cabin was amazing. The pictures really don't do it justice, in my opinion. It was clean, beautiful, and more than suited our needs. I catered the wedding and, though I'd done most of the cooking in DC and transported it, the kitchen in the cabin was a Godsend to be able to do the finishing touches. I brought much of my own equipment, but could have packed much lighter. There's plenty there for most cooks to be able to put a meal together. I wish we had planned to stay longer to be able to really relax and enjoy the place and the surroundings. It feels superbly secluded, but you are still within about 10 minutes of suburban civilization (grocery and other shopping and restaurants) and 20-25 minutes of [the very cute] downtown Bloomington (We strongly recommend the Irish Lion restaurant on Kirkwood Avenue). There are journals on the living room table in which previous guests have written about their stays in the cabin. We enjoyed reading those the first night. We did use the hot tub, which was incredibly welcome after an 11 hour drive. We didn't get to meet Peter and Suzanne, but I spoke to Peter on the phone a couple of times and he was incredibly nice (I had NONE of the experiences the other reviewers had). I'm a "yelper" but I'm really glad I didn't look at the Yelp reviews before deciding to stay at this cabin. We would have missed out on a wonderful place. I almost have to wonder if some of their guests are just trying to keep this place to themselves...If it weren't so far away, this is a place we would ABSOLUTELY frequent and I might, sadly, be just selfish enough to want to do the same. read more

I recently rented this cabin for a girls' weekend and was delighted. There were a few communication glitches (nothing related to the cabin itself) but Peter and/or Suzanne were right on it. We loved the laid back feel of the cabin and enjoyed the delights of the hot tub! read more

I appreciate the response that the wife has given on this site, but to elaborate, they didn't take care of the problems at all. I did call, right after we arrived. Twice. I emailed the next morning and got an email back right away from Suzanne, offering me $25 off the price for each night to make up for the fireplace--which they knew about and chose not to tell me. We could've easily resolved the issue BEFORE we arrived. It's never good to find these things out AFTER they take your money. The rental was also quite expensive, as it was a four bedroom/four bathroom house. The fireplace is always the center of the evening. I thought that 25 bucks off was a drop in the bucket, considering that the cabin was about $450 a night. The husband, Peter, called me back after I asked them to PLEASE call me in two emails. I heard from him late the next day. He was not so accommodating.....He talked over me, he told me that a fireplace is not a big deal. He was calling me "sweetie" in a sarcastic angry tone. He argued with me that the cabin was "spotless" which was a total joke! I honestly don't know how they expect people to stay in such filth. The other cabin, as BL mentioned, had an ashtray dumped behind a nightstand. Do you think some other guests might have been pissed about the condition of these cabins?? I think that if these people want to have a serious income, they need to spend a few bucks on maintaining the place. It's really too bad, because they are in a nice location and could be a great find. I would say that Peter needs some serious anger management. And maybe I do, too, after this experience. read more

I reserved the "Back to Nature" cabin for two nights, Feb 1 &2, to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my wife. I made the reservation during the "non-refundable" window, so my cabin was paid for when I decided to check reviews. Needless to say, after reading the bad reviews here my wife and I were very concerned about our stay and decided if on arrival, the cabin exhibited any of these issues we would just turn around and go home. On arrival, I got out my "bedbug inspection" light and inspected for those first off. I am happy to report absolutely no sign of bedbugs in the mattresses, furniture drawers nor any where else I inspected. I inspected for mouse droppings throughout the kitchen cabinets and drawers and found nothing. I checked the fireplace and, once I figured out how to turn it on (gas fireplace) we enjoyed two cozy nights with a burning fireplace. Although we didn't use the hot tub, I found it to be clean, working and ready for use. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to interact with the owners as we had no issues to complain to them about. We had a very nice stay. We breakfasted in Bloomington 20 minutes away and had dinner at the Artists Colony Inn in Nashville 20 minutes in the other direction from Bloomington. The cabin, the linens and towels were clean and ready for us. We've stayed at a number of places through "Hills of Brown" and in Tennessee and North Carolina. This cabin is as lovely, clean and ready for guests as any we've stayed in. I highly recommend "Back to Nature Cabins" for anybody visiting Bloomington, IU or just for a couple of night's getaway. read more

Stayed at the Snuggle Inn - it was absolutely Fabulous! Very clean, quiet, The layout of the house with its 3 floors and each bedroom having its own bathroom made the stay with 3 families with 6 children as sane as possible! The kitchen was amazingly equipped - better than any other cabin we've ever stayed in, and we've stayed in a lot! The patio furniture on the deck is large and comfortable, and the rocking chairs an added bonus! The reservation process was fast and efficient through Peter, and Suzanne answered my emails which was helpful in my advance planning. And the fact that you don't have to drive out of your way to an office to obtain and drop off the keys is a huge Bonus Point in our opinion! We will definitely be renting from Back to Nature Cabins again. read more

This was our second year coming to Back to Nature Cabins for our now annual (no kids) adult weekend. The Snuggled Inn has plenty of room for our group of 8. The bedrooms are cozy. Each has its own unique bathroom. (2 with jetted tubs) Comfy living room, well supplied kitchen and the game room is a nice place to hang out and have some fun. If you want a 5 star hotel, stay in one. If a ladybug or moscito bothers you, probably not for you. If you want some peace and quiet with a nice setting. I would recomend Back to Nature cabins. Owners Suzanne and Peter have always been accommodating to us. Definitely going back next year. I've seen some of the negative statements and have to say we have never had any issues. read more

We just spent 4 days and 3 nights at Snuggled Inn. It was a perfect size for our family of 7 with 4 bedrooms and 4 1/2 baths. The house was well kept and in perfect order. The location was wonderful, the sights were great, and the location was just where we wanted to be close to Nashville and Brown County State Park. The owners were very responsive to my initial inquiries and answered every question to confirm my decision to stay here. I would highly recommend staying at one of their properties and would very much suggest Snuggled Inn. Our family could not have been more pleased with our experience. read more

I recently stayed with a group using both cabins. The cabin I stayed in (Hideaway) smelled like cigarette smoke, even though they are supposed to be no smoking. The bath towels even smelled like smoke. The owner was airing it out when we got there, but it still stunk. There were cigarette butts dumped behind one of the night stands, so the cleaning wasn't too thorough. The cabins were dirty- dishes with caked food left in the dishwasher, bugs in the lights, mold and moss by the hot tub. When we stripped the beds, the pillows and matress pads were stained yellow. Pretty gross. There was even a cigarette burn in our matress pad. The fireplace does not work in the Snuggle Inn cabin, so beware. They will not tell you this up front. The owners response was that we could go to the other cabin and look at theirs, and that there was other things to do. The pool table had bent cues and loose tips, and one of the pockets was gone so the ball dropped to the floor. The darts for the dartboard were broken, so that was useless. The shower head dribbled water it was so clogged, there were dirty windows, and the cabinets were not too clean, so we had to wash the dishes before we used them. The grill was terrible. No grill brush. We were supposed to clean the grill and the ashes before we left, but there were no tools to scoop out the ashes, and the ash can by the grill was filled to overflowing with charcoal and ashes (same at both cabins), so they would have ended up on the ground anyway.. The owners were called about the non-working fireplace, but would at first only text a reply. When the owner (Peter) called one of the guests, he was very dismissive and did not take any responsibility for the condition of the equipment, telling the guest that it would cost too much to fix, and that there were other things to do rather than sit by a fireplace. Very poor guest relations. Spending a few of the rental dollars on a deep cleaning and some new linens, bedding and towels would go a long way. I would have expected much more for the cost of the rental. I would not stay there again. read more

I'm not sure what all the fuss is about... Our family spent a wonderful four-day weekend here. It could not have been better. The house was clean and had everything we could want, including dinner settings for 10 people. We loved the fact that every room opens to a deck with a fabulous view and seating. It rained for two days but that didn't matter because many of the decks are covered and there is a game room with pool table, dart board and cd player. The BBQ is also terrific. The road to the house is winding and becomes dirt at the end, which just added to the adventure and the seclusion. It also made for great walks through the woods. Inspite of the private location, the house is an easy ride into Bloomington, which has great restaurants and shops. We have rented many vacation homes and this one ranked as one of the most accommodating, comfortable and fun. read more

I just spent this past weekend with family and friends at Back to Nature and Snuggled Inn cabins. My family and friends found the cabins absolutely gorgeous and very rustic in style. The cabins are located far off the road in the country and we all had the pleasant feeling of being "snuggled in" placed in a very naturistic environment. Both cabins had wonderful layouts, each bedroom was accompanied with a full sized bath and all the bedrooms opened up to a full walk out deck that showed amazing views of the countryside. Our children loved the game rooms and hot tubs at both cabins. Reading before our trip that the cabins were self catering, we were quite surprised with all of the small appliances and amenities that were available there for us. Full set of pots and pans, beautiful matching dinner sets, all cooking and eating utensils, coffee maker, blender, microwave, dishwasher, and even cooking and cleaning utensils for the grill. I loved that each cabin had a full sized laundry room with a washer and dryer. I found that to be very handy after we walked the trails of Yellowwood State Forest. Both cabins were very clean. The owners of the cabins, Peter and Suzanne Sharp, were both accommodating and helpful with our stay giving useful tips and advice with local fun things to do in the area. We didn't understand how to use the hot tub and Peter was there within 15 minutes to show us how to use it. Peter is English and we all found him to be quite funny with his way of words. The kids adored him. Suzanne was also very helpful by checking in by emails to see how our visit was going and if we were in need of anything. The best part of the whole trip was while we were sitting out late one night on the deck and watching a family of raccoons trying to sneak up and help themselves to our grill. They were very entertaining. We all also enjoyed the find the dollar game that has been ongoing by all the visitors over the past years. I highly suggest these cabins for anyone looking for a great escape out in a nature setting. It truly feels as if you are snuggled in on top of a mountain area. This trip was a start of an annual family retreat and I can't give high enough recommendations. i ve stayed at all of these cabins on numerous occations to say the least they are spectacular the property they are on is breathtaking throughout the four seasons the cabins are finished to a very high standard and found my hosts and owners peter and suzanne to be delightfull .after reading other comments from guests i would like to point out these cabins by name [back to nature] are placed in the middle of all of glorious nature so if you dont like venturing outside where wildlife lives a few bugs ;deer ;racoons ;rabits and birds of prey maybe a stay at anyone of these spectacular cabins isn't for you .i myself love nature so i cant wait for a return trip to any of these wonderfull cabins .i have have made many wonderfull memories during my stays there and have become firm friends with the wonderfull owners .thanks once again peter and suzanne!! read more
