I started going to see Dr. Kevin Segal after a massage therapist recommended him. I have chronic tension in my neck and shoulders, but after a few weekly visits I'm sleeping better and am a lot less stiff after hours at the computer. He also helped with hip alignment issues I've had since I was small. The office atmosphere is friendly and comfortable. And they take my student insurance, which is a major plus. I'd highly recommend Back in Shape to anyone with an immediate need or with chronic problems. read more

I appreciate the professionalism and attention to detail that Dr. Segal afforded me. Not only did he listen to every detail but he was engaged from the moment we walked into the exam room. He explained a variety of factors involved in my care in a way that was easily comprehensible and he took the time to answer the questions that I had to alleviate any hesitations I might have. It took me years before I would see a chiropractor for a variety of reasons but mainly for the fear of making my injuries worse. Dr. Segal gained my trust quicker than I would have originally thought possible and the chiropractic services that he provided after were completely in tune with what I needed. Furthermore he set out a plan moving forward which allows one to conceptualize the end of pain or an injury versus only treating symptoms as they come which can seem never ending when dealing with chronic pain. Dr Kevin had really high expectations to live up to, since I absolutely adore the chiropractor I had in my hometown. But since I moved to Portland, and my other chiropractor is now several thousand miles away, I had to find somewhere else. I chose Back in Shape because of Amanda P's review saying that he helped her TMJ problems. I was having terrible pain/difficulty in opening my jaw (I'm a teeth clencher) and it wasn't going away with wishful thinking. It took a few visits to really feel results, but now after five visits my jaw is 100% better. I am so happy to be able to eat sandwiches without tearing them into little pieces like a weirdo. Dr Kevin listened well to my concerns not only about my jaw, but also my lower back and other ouchy places. But the review wouldn't be complete without also mentioning Deirdre, the massage therapist. I also get 30 minute massages before my adjustments with Dr Kevin, and they're really enjoyable. Deirde is great at working out the tension in my muscles, and she's a pleasure to talk to. She's also very good about asking if the pressure is too much on a sore spot and adjusting accordingly, rather than plowing through like some sort of "relaxing" steamroller. Overall, the people at Back in Shape are helpful and conscientious, and I'm really glad that I found them. Part of their office also does acupuncture and nutrition, and though I don't have any experience with that part of the practice, I'm intrigued and would consider going there if I ever need a service like that. read more

I was referred to the clinic for treatment after motor vehicle accident. First visit, Dr. wanted to know how much money I had left on my claim. He did an adjustment (total of ten minutes). Scheduled me for one week out. Second adjustment (total of ten minutes) then scheduled third appointment for one week out. Third visit today. Dr. did no adjustment. Instead he dismissed me from treatment recommending I go through the Department of Veterans Affairs for further evaluation and treatment as he has concerns the insurance company might not pay for treatment and diagnostic referrals. The VA has nothing to do with the auto wreck. I am totally covered by car insurance, private insurance, and medicare. SO MUCH FOR CARING ABOUT THE PATIENT! I am now left to try to get care for my injury again! read more

This guy was a complete jerk, I saw him twice. He kept referring to my weight problem and told me that all my pain would be gone if I just lost the weight. He kept asking what I ate. Whatever healthy choices I was making was never enough. I was also recently diagnosed with hypothyroidism and the medication wasn't working. The lady who referred me no longer goes to him because of how he treated me. So he lost two patients that day. Dr. Segal has been wonderful these past several months! My lower back and sciatica had me pulling my hair out. Through regular visits to Dr. Segal and incorporating many of his recommendations to increase activity and utilize targeted stretches I am finally feeling healthy again! So, it's funny, just after I write a great review for Back In Shape Chiropractic, my neck starts to really hurt after playing with my 9 month old son. I mean, it really started to hurt where I couldn't move hardly. I called at 10 am this morning and was able to schedule an apt. for 12:30 pm with no problem. Full Recovery! Dr. Kevin has won my vote for chiropractic medicine. As a first timer, I was unsure what to expect. However, after a little over 2 weeks of unexplainable pain in my neck and shoulders, I called Back in Shape for an appointment. My jaw was locked for two weeks. I went to a TMJ specialist that wanted me to spend $3,000 on mouth guards to help my problem. I've been going here for years ..lately now only on average once or twice a year since my problems aren't that bad now. They've always been prompt in getting me scheduled and it's usually with a minimal number of visits. They don't draw out treatment just a make a buck. Matter of fact, he encourages exercise to strengthen the muscles in my back so I won't need treatment. They are honest and surprisingly not expensive for a visit. I totally recommend them. read more

One morning I woke up with a locked-up neck. I couldn't move my head or find a position that provided any pain relief. Dr. Segal was able to adjust my neck in a few minutes and within a day I was almost back to normal. On a follow up visit I mentioned my chronic upper back pain which turns out was due to several of my ribs being out of place. I've been going back for adjustments on my ribs every month and can tell a difference by the amount of pain relief I am getting.
