We worked with Madi for the first 10 weeks of our baby's life and I seriously do not know ho we could have done it without her. She's naturally an over-achiever and it comes through in everything she does. Here's a bit about what I love about her:
Baby lovin: With our baby Sai, she's incredibly gentle, nurturing, and attentive. She even bought him little presents and wrote him cards for his 1 and 2 months birthdays She's incredibly well read about babies and their development and I've learned so much from watching her interact with Sai. She has some training in lactation so she's very helpful in breastfeeding and breastfeeding issues. She gets him to sleep easily, answers my million questions about everything I notice on him, coordinates with our night doula so we're working towards a good sleep routine, puts what I need in my amazon cart for me to review, finds joyful things I could do with Sai in the city, I could go on, but she's GREAT with babies.
Mama support: She walks in and handles everything as quickly as possible. She'll make sure I'm well fed (she makes me delicious smoothies and snacks), I get a nap, I handle my to-do's, all the baby laundry and bottle cleaning is done thoroughly, and other many things that end up adding up in a never-ending to-do list. It feels like she wants to take anything that could be stressing me out and fix it. And emotionally, she's been incredibly supportive and encouraging through the 9 week hell of an experience trying to make BFing work. Lastly, one of the things I love about her is that she will NEVER leave you in a difficult situation because her time is done for the day. She'll make sure you're comfortable, you have what you will need, and then head out. It's incredibly thoughtful.
Life/home support: She heard me mention once that visual clutter stresses me out and that I'd love for things to be more organized. By the end of the week, voila, everything was organized, functional, and streamlined - even things that aren't related to the baby. And every time she's here, everything is done, figured out, and beautiful. She made having taking care of our baby easier even when she wasn't here.
Empowerment and education for me: She helped me with breastfeeding, picked out the right bottles and right products for him, connected me to the best lactation consultant and an excellent night doula, brought me books with the relevant passages highlighted for what we needed at the time, etc etc. We set goals for what I wanted to learn every week - giving baby bath by myself, going shopping with baby, leaving the house, etc. etc. and now I feel like I got this, though I'm sure when she leaves, I'm going to have separation anxiety for quite a while.
Fit is so important when it comes to doulas, so she may not work for everyone, but for us, she was beyond what we could've hoped for. We will be calling her for every baby we have. read more
