In love with this place since day 1. Our now three-year-old has been enrolled since she was two. We…read morebasically hit Covid as soon as she was 6 months old so not much socializing for either my daughter or myself before enrolling here. We were impressed with how easy Miss Julie made the transition for me as a mom dropping off my kiddo anywhere for the first time and for my daughter who hadn't even been exposed to English yet. Of course there was some crying the first days at drop off but BIG SMILES at pickup. We were so surprised that after a couple of days she didn't even say goodbye to us, she was ready to play and felt comfortable to go to the teachers. We did not get a physical tour before enrolling due to Covid, which I greatly appreciate, but we did jump on a video call and got to see the space and met the teachers which was more important to us than the space. We wanted to make sure we connected with the staff and that it was a similar dynamic to what happens at our house but with other kids, with the socializing factor. That is what we liked about UT, it's a home not a school, and I understand this might not work for every parent or every kid but we figured once kids transition to kindergarten they will have a more defined and strict learning structure, a playground, more rules, and sadly, a classroom. Because how amazing would it be for kids to learn outdoors constantly? We LOVE that our little one is playing/learning all day outdoors. We have since we enrolled, toured the school physically to check out an art mural in the works and my daughter loved showing me the space, every nook and corner and introducing me to her human and animal friends. I was there in the middle of the day and the backyard was pretty much shaded, in a good way, no harsh sun exposure but open to the elements. They have so many fun things and stuff to play with and an environment that supports creative play. We find this more meaningful than popping a bunch of plastic toys or slides everywhere. We can tell how big of an effort Miss Julie puts into her themed curriculum and disguising play and art with learning - my little one tells me what they read that day, what art they made, about yoga, about lunch, about her friends and about the interaction with the animals. I think interacting with the free roaming animals has made our little one more comfortable with them and more aware of her body and space, making sure she's gentle and careful around them. My daughter has thrived in this environment because it's all about having fun for her and she is given the space and the emotional support to be herself and be comfortable. We've made the best friends here, some we've been with for the entire year, some new ones but that's what's made it super fun too, to make new friends. As mentioned before, a year ago my daughter didn't speak a word of English and now she can pretty much communicate whatever she needs to say in English. This tells me that the teachers certainly have the patience and give as much attention to my daughter as she individually needs. As a mom, I've also thrived here, ha! Miss Julie has helped me navigate through all of our little one's stages and emotions. She is super communicative and direct which I love, because all the feedback and observations I can get, the better mom I can be to my three-nager. All I can say is a have the happiest kiddo, who's made a lot of friends, is super communicative about her needs, super secure about herself and I think a big part of this is because of the socializing environment we chose for her. We chose Urban Toddler and will be here until we transition to kindergarten. Thanks Miss Julie and team.

We love The Village Academy of San Diego!…read more If you are looking to break away from the traditional, limited education model offered by public and private schools, but are not quite ready for full time homeschooling, The Village Academy is a fantastic choice! I appreciate the peaceful, calm learning environment; the multi-age classrooms that allow for customizing the learning level to my child's needs and that allows kids of different ages to interact; and that my wishes are honored (i.e. I want my kiddo to have time daily to practice cursive).

I am so glad I found the Village Academy for my daughter!…read more We took her out of the local public school last year because it was not a good fit for her, she cried nearly every day because it was too overwhelming and she was struggling. At the Village Academy she is thriving in the smaller intimate mixed-aged classrooms. Because of the small class size and individualized learning plan she is noticed, encouraged (and loved!) and the teachers understand her learning style and keeping track of her progress. There is close communication with the parents and our input is valued. Fridays are called adventure Fridays at the Village Academy. She has done so many fun and educational things on those days: Museums, tide pools, parks, a farm and much more.... learning doesn't just happen in the classroom! Nature and in-person experiences make learning come alive, the school is small enough to be able to facilitate many hands on activities both at the school and outside. I am thankful I get to take her to a place every day where she is challenged, feels known and is thriving.

Alexa's PLAYC has been truly life-changing for our family!…read more Both of our children have attended PLAYC, and between them, we have experienced nearly every classroom in the program. As parents, there is no greater gift than knowing your children are loved, supported, challenged, and celebrated every day. That is exactly what we found at Alexa's PLAYC. Our son was diagnosed with autism while attending PLAYC, and the support we received during that time was extraordinary. The staff not only embraced him for who he is, but also partnered with us every step of the way to help him grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Because of the foundation built at PLAYC, he successfully transitioned into a general education kindergarten classroom and continues to thrive. We will forever be grateful for the role this program played in his journey. Our daughter has also flourished at PLAYC since she was a toddler. The warmth, care, and dedication shown by every teacher and staff member have made her school experience joyful and enriching. What makes Alexa's PLAYC so special is its commitment to serving all children. It is a remarkable model of inclusion where children with autism and their typically developing peers learn, play, and grow together in a supportive environment. The sense of community is unlike anything we have experienced elsewhere. The teachers and staff go above and beyond every single day. Their passion, professionalism, and genuine love for children are evident in everything they do. PLAYC is not simply a preschool, it is a place where children build confidence, friendships, independence, and a love of learning. We are incredibly grateful to the entire PLAYC team for the impact they have had on our family. If you are looking for an exceptional early childhood program that truly changes lives, I cannot recommend Alexa's PLAYC highly enough!!!

Alexa's PLAYC is a truly special center…read more Our daughter has been there since she was 18 months. She was shy and apprehensive when she started, and has since grown into an independent, spirited, and fun-loving toddler. We are so thankful to the teachers and staff for providing our girl with a safe, welcoming place to explore and learn. There are so many things I could say, but here are a few highlights: * The teachers and staff are all highly trained on, and passionate about, early childhood education. Having come from another daycare, I can really see how Alexa's PLAYC is intentional about every element of the space. They use evidence-based philosophies, reflect constantly on what the children are exploring, and update the different spaces responsively. If the kids seem to want to explore different textures, they will document it and add more sensory materials. * There is a garden!!! It is beautifully maintained by the outdoor teacher. We love that our daughter gets to spend time in nature each week. The playgrounds are also spacious and full of enriching activities. * There is fun programming, like the weekly live music class! Because of Alexa's PLAYC's affiliation with Rady Children's Hospital, there are extra fun events sprinkled throughout the year. We had visits from a monster truck and a penguin from the zoo in the past few months. * The classrooms are mixed-age and inclusive -- meaning that our toddler has been able to make friends of all backgrounds. I believe that she's made leaps and bounds in her socialization and learning as a result. Though she was barely speaking at the time of enrollment, our daughter's language and imaginative play have since exploded. * Alexa's PLAYC's commitment to supporting children across the neurodiversity spectrum results in an incredibly supportive enviroment. For example, they are diligent about maintaining the low teacher-to-student ratio. Truly, though, words fail to describe the everyday magic that Alexa's PLAYC creates... We love seeing our daughter come home with paint on her face and dirt on her pants -- the signs of a creative mind hard at work (play)! It is so fun getting glimpses of her world at daycare. She will play guitar (in the style of the music teacher), water our plants (like she would in the garden), and proudly talk about new friends and hobbies ("I sit bicycle!"). It has been such a joy to see our daughter, and so many other children, blossom at Alexa's PLAYC.

My child has been neglected in the past by a teacher who purposely tripped my child, which then made my child fall and hit their head and the that teacher tried to make it seem like it was nothing. Now as of recent, we have been told by the primary teacher that all children in the classroom have been recently acting out due to a change, however, when my child did some of those similar actions, they would single out my child and make behavioral reports for my child's actions, then have my child isolated in the directors office with just the director Kiana when again these were similar actions to other children. Also, at one nap time, my child did not want to nap and normally they give the child something quiet to do during that time, however my child was sad missed mommy and began to cry loud and what did the director do? They didn't call mommy to help calm the child down, this director instead took my child's stuffy away from the classroom, and my child was told to lay down with their eyes closed and they had to cry themselves to sleep, which my child was crying for over an hour with no remembrance of home to help them calm down. Last straw was when another behavioral report, when going over the report of those similar actions other children were doing, I found out my child was again isolated with the director and part of their recess time was taken away. Once my child was brought out by that director, they were brought out without water or their water bottle. In that same discussion with the teacher of my child's actions, I noticed that another child harm another and action was done. That child got to continue to play. I elevated my concern in that moment and what came from it you ask? The following day I was being told by the director that when speaking about my child nothing else or incidents should be brought up (referencing the other child doing harm that i witnessed). To only speak about my child. Which raised more concerns regarding that director, as I only but it due to 1) a child was hurt, 2) another child did it and they were not isolated or talked to. Now after meeting with regional director and a program specialist for this company, they said in person they have no concerns and behavioral reports that were written were not valid and will look for support.... HOWEVER, in an email, it was the opposite, they want single out my child more and try hush us parents with their idea of "support" which was to start sending my child home early for any and all including the most minor of behaviors if it continues, all while threatening to terminate my child going there, though they repeatedly claimed they didn't want to do that. During my child's time there, they have been numerous teacher swaps and 3 director swaps (1 director didn't even last week). There was a teacher strike due to the constant change and from that strike, many teachers left. Parent, teacher and child confidentiality is consistently being released to other parents that are not related They may reply with this being uncharacteristic of the place, however I can confirm after 3 years there, it is in characteristic for this place.
