We yelped and all the outfitters for the Bio Bay tours were sold out, so it was hard to reserve kayaking anywhere! We had our doubts. But fortunately, when we called here they had just received two cancellations. They clarified that they do not do kayak tours, just a boat tour, but since it was our last night, we said we'd take it. We stayed in Fajardo, so they were less than 15 minutes away. Parking by the by is pretty tight; Debbie said that we could park in the one of the restaurants parking lots, but when we did, we were told we could not. Which is fine. We had an 830pm reservation, so if you just drive around, those that are on the earlier tours will be leaving and then spots open up. No problem. We had to be driven to another docking area, since the tide was high/choppy. There were a total of 8 of us on the tour, so not bad at all, it was intimate and all were friendly. The tour guys were pretty awesome. Michael offered to do both Spanish or English, which was nice since majority in our tour were Latino (I'm not but I was okay with both since my boyfriend can speak some Spanish, lol) But he answered and spoke in both. Very knowledgeable about the area and he immediately pointed out all the freakin IGUANA that were in the trees sleeping! It was pretty amazing because it was almost pitch black out there. We nicknamed him Riddick ;) I've done the biobay via kayak but enjoyed the boat a little better because we got to see the Bioluminesence by swishing our hands around on the side of the boat and when we got to the open bay, we got to put our feet in the water too! Also, we wouldn't have seen the cool iguanas if we kayaked. Michael pointed out all the constellations and again told us more information.
I really wish we had stayed longer in the open area to enjoy it but the tour ended rather quickly. That's the only reason why I didn't give 5 stars. The website states it is approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes, but ours was less than an hour - maybe 50 minutes at best. So in that regard, I was a bit disappointed. However, this is a great option if you are with small children or elderly or if one is physically unable to maneuver a kayak! Also - it's CASH ONLY so be prepared on-site. They were all very nice. After the tour, they gave us cold bottled water, which was nice, no sweets or snacks. read more
