However, I went there anyway, and immediately was treated very cordial for someone in sandals wearing lavender knee socks. I quickly found a chair and immediately was greeted by a very sweet person that I requested a draft beer and then set back to find the surroundings quite unassuming and comfortable. That's when I felt eyes on me and waited for a comment about my attire. I noticed a young lady staring straight across to me so I nodded and smiled, signaling her to speak. She said," You took my chair Thompson." Alarmed as I was I managed to say, " Oh sorry..." " No it's okay " she almost shouted, " But why did you take my sunglasses?" I was almost shocked but I told her my name wasn't Thompson and he must be the culprit with her property because when I sat here, there were no shades on the table. She gave me that ' I figured you'd say that look and looked quite upset when the waitress brought my drink. And refreshing it was as I paid and tipped her. My new friend looked in her hand and touted, "How much did he give you?" I wasn't sure what the waitress said but I am certain it was in my favor. Because the young lady looked confused and deceived by a sweet lady working for tips. I decided the protection from my ally might end quickly, so I downed my draft and got up to leave in hast. I heard something hit the floor and thankfully only I heard it. Because I looked down and it was a pair of Ray-Bans I accidently had sat on. I never looked back.

It was really fun, and a change of scene. I don't frequent clubs but that's the only thing I have to compare this place to. The crowd is older and mature. When men ask you to dance, that's it! They just want to dance. It's not necessarily that it's the first step in getting you into his bed. Every lady there danced with several men and vice versa. Guys weren't blocking. Women weren't hating. Since the dancing is not sexual, it is a totally chill and free atmosphere. It's an ode to the old school. I surprisingly had a real good time. We were definitely the youngest group there. I told my friend that we need to come back. I believe they offer classes so you will know dances beyond the basics. They have soul food sundays from what I understand, and they cater food on the weekends. Now the food, I could have done with out. They had spaghetti when I went. I don't know who provides the catering for them. It is BYOB. If you are not familiar with this type of dancing, think of an R. Kelly video (specifically one of his step songs). If that didn't help, just come out and see for yourself. I can't wait to get more of my girls together and go again.

The vibe is laid-back, no pressure, and everyone just kind of does their own thing. The bartenders are solid--friendly, and attentive. At this point in life, I appreciate a place that's simple, consistent, and doesn't try too hard, and Down N Out nails that. Easy spot to stop in, have a few drinks, and relax.
