Until one day, looking for a new Puertorican Restaurant named "Delicias Boricuas," I had a reason to go inside. And I'm so glad I did. When one walks in, one is greeted by a very friendly young man who is seated at a desk and who is in charge of taking care of you if you need to buy any of the arts and crafts items displayed in any of the booths inside. Then, the first store there is the Little Green Hive which is a Coffee, bakery, and sandwich shop. There is also the Puertorican Restaurant which is literally a hole in the wall where one orders their food and then goes to sit on marble tables and chairs that are all around to enjoy their food.Besides these two restaurants, there are a couple of beauty salons, and a vinyl record shop. As one walks around looking at all the beautiful arts and crafts displayed, there is music playing in the background. I would definitely recommend to those visting Downtown Roanoke to come by this place. Who knows you might discover a new place to hangout with family or friends and enjoy some coffee, shop for that special one of a kind gift, or discover the delicious flavor of the Puertorican Cuisine.

We're so pleased that we did, as it was an interesting place to wander with its eclectic set of stalls with interesting and high-quality crafts, candles, vintage records, various foods, and more for sale. We were tempted by the Puerto Rican food stall, and just HAD TO take some empanadas and other savory snacks back to our hotel. I was also tempted to buy one of the absolutely gorgeous wooden charcuterie boards -- and, would have, had we not been walking. I did, however, take the craftsman's business card! And 2nd on Main, in Salem, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located in the historic Brooks Byrd Pharmacy building across the street from the Salem Farmer's Market, this extraordinary gift shop offers a variety of one-of-a-kind nostalgia and modern treasures. I couldn't help but quickly crossing the street to find out if it was already open or when would it be. Inside, a friendly and very kind gentleman by the name of Jacob, greeted and welcomed me to this new establishment that had just opened today. He explained how they featured locally-made crafts and items sourced from the Appalachian region. He explained how the Cafe had still yet to open, but encouraged me to take my time and walk around to see the diverse array of handmade goods with particular strong showing in pottery, jewelry, woodworks, and various forms of home decor. Common types of products that I was able to find included: pottery and ceramics, jewelry, textiles and fiber arts, woodwork and home decor, bath and body products, specialty foods and treats, artwork and prints, and books and paper goods. This place will also include a modern Appalachian cafe serving breakfast and lunch seven days a week, slated to open very soon in early 2026. Locally-owned and operated by the Nelson family for over a century, this gift shop is conveniently located at 3534 Brambleton Ave in Southwest, Virginia. They are well-known for Virginia-themed and Roanoke Star City-themed products, from souvenirs to Virginia-made home decor products and food items like local honey. Today as I was driving by their shop, that looks like a regular house, I finally decided to stop and look at what they had inside. It's amazing that I hadn't done so before because it lacked a "We're Open" sign and the front door was always closed. Inside I was greeted by Mr. Nelson the current owner of this shop since it opened 32 years ago. He was very friendly and hospitable and was more than happy to show me the shop. This time of the year he had just finished having a sale and was in the process of rearranging the shop and making space for many new merchandise coming soon. I was very impressed by the quality and variety of great gifts he had there and asked him where he found his merchandise. He told me that by attending many Gifts trade shows where he can physically see and inspect the products he purchased to carry in the shop. One of the items I was very impressed with was a ceramic cup with a design of the Mill Mountain Star. They also have the largest variety of Willow Tree Figurines that I have ever seen in a single store. Since the black bear is associated with Virginia, he also has an extensive collection of these in many forms. Over the years the shop has maintained its enduring legacy by adapting his inventory to support causes that focus on animal-rescue, ocean cleanup, and sea turtle preservation. He also told me that for the 33rd anniversary of the store he has plans to make several cosmetic upgrades to make it look more attractive and appealing. To do it justice I told him I would visit again after the store was fully loaded, and do a follow-up review including my photographs of its new products.
