The good news is Babe's was a lifesaver when it came to a (literally) last minute reservation, no thanks to the asshole Uber driver who ditched us at the last minute on a trip to LaGuardia. Even though they didn't show up as fast as they claimed they would (the driver wasn't as close as he led us on to believe), regardless they did show up and managed to get us to the airport in time. Other than the inaccurate time, the other blemish was that the car wasn't in very good condition ... I know its' a taxi and not a limo service but it was pretty run down and dirty, even more than your average taxi so it wasn't really a pleasant experience. The foot well behind the driver has and inch of liquid in it from a Big Gulp that has spilled! I am a long time resident. My last cab was to an airport. The driver was neither courteous or helpful and before we got very far he pulled over to use a gas station bathroom. The car was driven fast and slow at times, don't know if it was the operator or a vehicle malfunction. When we got to the airport the driver just remained in the car and popped the trunk. He stayed in the car. We are both in our 70's and we managed with some difficulty to get out the luggage ourselves. My relatives are due for an airport cab but they wont be using Babes. read more

I booked a car to take my family to the airport, so he could make it close after the driver loaded the truck with our four pieces of luggage. I called back the office, hoping they would send another vehicle, and here came someone trying to fix it while we had to wait and risk losing our flight. After I complained about the situation, the person trying to fix it seemed careless about our concerns. Finally, after exchanging unpleasant words, he decided to get someone on the way to another call. The cars are small for a group and need a lot of care because they seem old. I'm not even sure where to start. I used Babe's all week while in NJ and it was a scary experience. The cars are in such bad shape and smell terrible. I had to kick rubber to the side to close the door. The last car had the check engine light, tire light and it smelled like it was going to break down any second. Taxi was not following rule and almost caused an accident. At intersection of Center Ave. and Bridge Plaza N., this Babe driver made an illegal left turn from the center lane. The center lane is strictly for moving straight forward, not left turn. The left lane is for left turn only. If Babe taxi driver can not follow a simple rule of the road, how can it be expect to transport a human life and jeopardize all others around. We have used this company for 20 years, and had no complaints. This morning I had an airport ride, my father called at 7:45 and 8 am and was told was told each time the ride was 'a minute away'. Clearly this was not true. When I at 8:15, after the driver was clearly late, I called - because they wouldn't pick up his number - . The operator "Mike" (I am told) proceeded to say that he had never heard this request, how dare I be so rude (he was we complaining about having to answer phones...but which was his *job*.) and accused me of yelling at him and being rude, told me to "go screw myself" and hung up. Note: I never raised my voice, I asked him to stop lying and please do his job by telling us the truth. I have zero complaints about the driver, they're always nice. But, sir, go screw yourself, and fear not: we will never trouble you with our business again. read more

Passenger's & Drivers beware!!!!! I had a run in with one Babe's cabbie's during rush hour. The cabbie nearly bullied me out of lane to get in. (It's a one lane road) .Then when he realized that their was no where go to and traffic is barely moving, and if tried to force his way in he was going to hit my car. So, he decided to roll down his window and spit in my car. Luckily, he didn't have any passenger in the car. They would of been mortified at the cabbie's behavior, and feared for their own safety with his very aggressive driving. I immediately called they company and the dispatcher contacted the cabbie on the radio. (I could hear the conversation) He told the dispatcher he had the right of away. Regardless, their is no excuse for that behavior or driving.... I just noticed the photo Babe's Taxi has posted on yelp. They are good but... 1) They will tell you they will be there "right away" in "10 minutes" when actually they will arrive much later. I believe they do this to keep you from calling a competing cab service. Sometimes, they are honest that no one is available. That is much appreciated, especially if you need to be somewhere at a specific time. 2) Some of the drivers are a bit too talkative. If you've had a stressed ay, or just need to chill, this can be a bit annoying. 3) They charge a fuel surcharge in addition to the fare. I believe this is a way to get a higher fare where they have not been able to get a higher fare approved. 4) Prompt for pre-arranged airport pick-ups. I believe some of the cabbies smoke in their cabs between fares. You can smell it and it's offensive. All the cab companies seem to do that, however. The drivers are generally courteous. The cabs are clean. The dispatchers are generally courteous as well. Of all the local Fort Lee cab companies, this is my pick. read more

STAY AWAY! Unprofessional service! I cannot believe the Holiday Inn recommended them. The driver was extremely inappropriate to my colleague (visiting from Germany) and she felt extremely uncomfortable on her "long" ride from Holiday Inn at Fort Lee to Port Authority in Manhattan. The price was outrageous and the driver demanded a premium tip. My colleague as a foreigner even noticed the unusual route and multiple circles the driver took to make her trip more expensive. She called me crying about her horrific experience with inappropriate comments and super long trip. I called Babes to explain the situation and they hung up on me saying I was wasting there time. There are basically three taxi firms in the Fort Lee Area - Babes, A1 and now GW. There's also a new "Lime" taxi that aims to be "green" (think Priuses .... Lime is new though, not many cars, and as I understand pricier, so I haven't tried them yet) Babes is pretty much my go-to taxi firm, here's why: 1) they are reliable, if they say they will be there "right away", then in my experience they show up right away. 2) Cars are not new, but they are clean 3) They are reliable for pre-arranged airport pick ups - alway on time. Also are great picking you up on time if you arrange them to pick you up at the airport - and they are cheaper than taking an airport taxi if you live near Fort Lee 4) I've had bad experiences with the two other taxi companies, such that Babe basically wins by process of elimination. Here's what happened to me with the others: -GW taxi told me they would be "right there" and I waited over 45 minutes. They basically just told me that so that I wouldn't call a competitor. It was in the middle of winter and I was waiting outside - very upsetting. I'd rather know the truth. -A1 sent me a taxi for an airport trip and the trunk did not close! The driver kept having to go out to try to shut it. (I eventually had him pull over at the gas station and called another company rather than risk my stuff flying out onto the freeway before a vacation. Anyway, I've never had bad experiences with Babes. Most of the drivers are nice enough, tolerable, although sometimes they like to get a little political in the conversations which I could do without. Overall though, if a friend at my office in Fort Lee needs a reliable ride in a taxi, I always recommend Babes. read more

So it's your wedding day...scheduled the limos...ordered the cake....paid the catering hall....etc..etc...etc. Forgot to schedule transportation from the hall to the hotel for the bridal party. So we call Babe's....oh my dear Lord...NEVER USE THIS COMPANY....and from what I see in the other reviews, the drivers are ALL Rude! So they drop us off and the Glenpointe Marriot and I had just gotten married (did not have cash to tip, and the dispatcher said all was covered), so as I get out of the taxi and walk around the front to see if my best man or anyone else had any cash, the driver thinks I'm stiffing him out of a tip and guns it....hitting me in the back of the knees and I find myself sitting on the hood of his car when he quickly stopped. The worst, most unprofessional taxi service there is. They did not convey that their driver's do not greet travelers inside the airport but are waiting only outside, because they can't enter the airport. THEY DID NOT COMMUNICATE THIS until after the missed pickup and since this wasn't clearly communicated to me I had to go with another driver, as we have a newborn and two young children and haven't the luxury of waiting indefinitely. To add insult to injury, they charged extra for a failed pickup for having gone in circles for three hours, they claim. RIDICULOUS. They are ripe for reporting to the BBB. Then when I convey my issue, they proceed to blame me, the customer, for my not having a cellphone on me (I travel light and made sure my pick up was confirmed over the phone from abroad and AGAIN IT WAS NEVER COMMUNCATED THAT THEY WOULD PICK ME UP OUTSIDE THE AIRPORT.) I booked in advance Babe's Taxi for our return trip from vacation: from Newark Airport to Edgewater, NJ. After receiving our luggage I called a dispatcher, who told me to wait just for couple minutes in Passenger Pickup area number 3. We waited there on a freezing wind for 20 minutes, during which I called him several times asking where was the driver. Finally he told me that the driver can pick us up somewhere in a different location of the airport. I told the dispatcher: "Sorry, but in this case we have to hire another taxi, because we are unable to search for the driver around the airport". Using them since 1984 years - mostly out of habit. Have them picking up customers at the airport, bringing my kids to the airport, using them to pick me up from business trips. Never again. Asked them to pick up a package at a location about 10 miles East of JFK. Told them no rush. Just when you have someone already at JFK, call the folks and if convenient, pick up the package and bring back to Palisades Park. 39.5 miles according to Google Maps. (Babes charges $2.75/mile on the meter.) Last night they told me about $70-80 + tolls. Sounded too low. But I booked it this afternoon. They told me they'd pick up in 30-40 minutes from Freeport. Asked the dispatcher for the cost, he said he'd call me back. He never did. About 2 hours later, the Freeport folks told me the item had just been picked up. When the driver arrived, we asked the amount. $140 plus tolls. Total of $177., including a bullshit $2. fuel surcharge. I called Babes and asked how much this should be. I was told $106 plus tolls. OK, why is it $140. Because of delays on the road, etc., etc. BS. Why are the tolls over $30. I told you to find me a driver who was already at JFK. The only toll would be about $8, - EZ Pass - over the Triborough. So why is it $30+? Because we came from NJ and we're charging you for the GW Bridge, and 2 trips over the triborough. My complaints yielded nothing other than- if you don't pay, that's fine - we'll call the police. This is after I've explained that I've used them for over 30 years, both business and personal - and I want a satisfactory answer as to why this is a good $50 over what it should be. Answer - don't pay, we'll call the cops. ** OK, I paid. But it's the last time that anyone associated with my family or my company will use this cab company. They are on the way out. I'm reminded that the last time I used them for a ride back from JFK, the driver told me that if he needs a cab, he calls Uber. Babes - penny wise and otherwise stupid.
