Paradise made it very easy for me and my family to set sail on Lake Monroe this summer. We had…read morenever been on a boat together before, and I was kind of wondering what I had gotten ourselves into when we stepped aboard. The thoughts running through my head included: How the heck does a boat work? How am I going to shuttle us along safely when I've never driven a boat before? And other anxious boating thoughts. But luckily, Paradise makes it easy to rent a vessel and take it out on the lake, even if you've never driven a boat before. First, when you book your reservation, you are directed to watch a long video about the dos and don't of boating on a lake. Then, the kind people at Paradise go over the rules again when you're there before you shuttle off. It turns out that boating isn't super difficult, as long as you follow some common-sense rules! And also, always wear a life jacket! We rented a pontoon, which is great if you have kids with you because this vessel has a canopy that provides lots of shade. Kids can't be in the sun all day, you know! The pontoons also have lots of storage space so you have places to put all of your snacks and extra supplies. We spent about three hours out on the lake, and by the end of the journey, I felt like I was almost a boating pro! Renting from Paradise was a great experience from start to finish, and I'll definitely be renting from them again the next time we want to spend time boating on Lake Monroe.

They also have wave runners (jet skis) for rent. This year we are going all out and renting what they call a 35 ft Destination Yacht that handles 18 people. This "yacht" is two story, has a restroom on board, a wet bar, and a curved slide from the upper deck down to the right above the water. You can bring a grill on board if you like. They require you watch a video online about boat safety and take a test to record the results proving you watched the video. After three years of these tests I finally scored a perfect test score! The staff is always courteous, friendly and very helpful. The boats come fueled and clean. You do a quick walk around and makes notes of any prior damage so you don't get dinged. They always go through all of the features with you, tell you some tips for safe handling and take the time to answer all your questions.

It was a perfect day for hiking around the paved trail of this park on the NW side of Bloomington!…read more After pulling into the large paved parking lot, I noticed the playground and shelter to the west, the community gardens to the east, and a basketball court to the north. Between the shelter and the court, a wide paved trail (very little change in elevation, so excellent for physically challenged visitors!) takes a short loop around the pond in the park. I would estimate the walk is roughly the distance of what you would find at a high school track. But what you see, particularly in the autumn, is a wide range of color as the woods slope away from the trail. There is also a POI on the east end of the trail called "Hack's Arch" which is made of stone and has its own plaque telling why it is there. Though it is a little out of the way from downtown Bloomington, it is easy to find (despite the small detour for road repair.) Simply take 17th Street west (it becomes Vernal) over the interstate and watch for the park on the north side of the road. Well kept and though some of the large trees were recently removed for safety reasons, brand new trees are being planted to bring more shade to the area with less risk of falling branches. This Review is for Holler Hoppin Zip lines by Team Effect at Rawhide Ranch…read more Probably the best hour & a half I've spent in a long time. No matter if you are old or young, fit or not so much, you can do this, and you'll have a blast while your at it. I've never zip lined before and I'm a little squeamish when it comes to heights, but I am a roller coaster fanatic, and zip lining is kinda on par with coasters, a lot less jarring even. My husband is even more squeamish about heights than I am, and he said that Holler Hoppin just didn't pull those triggers. You go in a group of 10 to 12 people with 2 guides, who outfit you in the gear, and hook you up for every zip, and entertain you along the way, it's really a no brainer. So for $30 bucks you get 6 zips on 5 different lines (they use one twice) and you'll feel like a 12 year old again in the process, only this time without the braces and acne, now what's more fun than that? Note: Holler Hoppin Zip Lines is on the Rawhide Ranch Property, but managed by a separate company in coordination with Rawhide Ranch.

For the gun shop, I encourage everyone to swing by and hang out with these guys. They have a ton of cool inventory & they price competitively while also giving you good pointers when you shop there. For anyone that needs an FFL, WC offers their services free of charge to the community, in exchange for another purchase in the store, which is UNHEARD OF! I love this place!

This is a nice park/golf course located in Bedford. The main entrance will take you to the golf…read morecourse section. You will find a little amphitheater near the front entrance. You will find a club house with a grill near the back of the course and two open cement picnic areas that look kind of like forts in between. The park was gifted to the city in 1935 by Fred Otis, a local newspaperman. you will find a lot of historic limestone features at this park. The course is very nice and well maintained. It is considered one of the state's best. The golf course is also home to a disc golf course. It looked like a really nice course. I do not know how much play it gets because not many people know about it. If you are looking for the playground and soccer complex you have to go an an entirely different way. You have to take US 50 to Leatherwood Road. You will find the soccer and playground's parking lot just off of Leatherwood Road. It is a very nice parking lot with tons of spots. The soccer fields at the complex are really nice. the nets are portable and seem kind of small. The playground is on a bed of wood chips and has a bank of ADA, toddler, and traditional swings, a couple of sit and spins and a jungle gym with slides, bridges and number games. It is a nice playground area that is well maintained, but is very small. There is a shelter on that side that has a bunch of picnic tables under it. It is also nice as is most stuff on this side of the park. This is not a destination park unless you intend on golfing. It is still nice though and a decent place to pass some time.

I went to Tunnelton Road and couldn't see the playground or soccer fields from the entrance. All I saw were a marker about the origin of the park, and an under utilized limestone band shell on the west end of the golf course. What I discovered after returning home is that if you drive just a short distance to the west on US 50 to Leatherwood Road, you can gain access to a nice parking lot with access to the soccer fields, the playground, and some open shelter areas (no roofs) for picnics. The setting, even in winter, is picturesque since the golf course maintains the grounds and is part of the largest park in town. I only wish the address of the park was listed on Leatherwood so that I could have found the other amenities. Review #2012

Not…read morehaving ever had formal pistol training before, I feared it might be pretty generic and geared to the lowest common denominator. It's anything but! The course instructor, Jeremiah, is a true subject matter expert who has mastered the skills and techniques he teaches. He has boundless energy and enthusiasm for teaching and does a great job of instructing and coaching. Jeremiah is very dedicated to assuring his students fix what's not working and make continuous improvement. Despite the fact he's very good at pistol handling and shooting, he doesn't leave his students feeling inferior. Much of the training involves safety, drawing the weapon from the holster, dry firing, and then live fire after which Jeremiah analyzes each student's target results for corrective action. I highly recommend training with Jeremiah at Panther Ridge. It's a tremendous value and if students approach the course with the right attitude and practice what they are shown, improvement in pistol handling and shooting is guaranteed.
