Usually it was for their own use even though they had time on the schedule set aside for lifeguard use, they never thought twice about disrupting patrons who came during the scheduled lap swim time. When I complained, the person I spoke to told me to come at a different time. When I said I have a job and responsibilities that keep me on a tight schedule, I was told the lifeguards can't always make it during their scheduled time. I explained that seems unreasonable to me since I'm trying to adhere to the schedule they published and I don't think it's appropriate to alter that schedule without notice especially when we're in the middle of a workout. The person I spoke to said I was being unreasonable. I left and have never gone back.

The Recreation center is great for all ages and all activities! They have park space,…read moreindoor/outdoor pools and water slides, in addition to a workout facility. The facility itself is relatively new (I heard some people in the gym talking about having been going there for 20 years)! The gym maintains their gym equipment. In addition, they maintain the grounds really well. Someone is always patrolling the parking lot, Splash Island and cleaning the indoor areas. They offer various classes, including fitness and summer classes for the kids!!! Some other amenities I didn't expect -- lap swimming pool (indoor and outdoor), a lazy River and full free weight squat and bench racks. All staff are incredibly helpful and this place does a nice job training. It employs all ages and they host an annual "Getting Ready"-type training in the summer that prepares the lifeguard staff before opening. They're also fairly active on Facebook and good about communicating closings/delays. A great high school or college job for students. It's worth the price too! Any commercial gym membership costs the same for residents to just be a member here!

I spent a great week on the campus of Indiana University officiating the inaugural Bloomington TYR…read morePro Swim Meet. The Student Recreational Sports Center houses the Councilman Billingsley swimming and diving complex. It is dedicated to longtime swim coach Doc Councilman now deceased. Also to Hobie Billingsley who attended the meet and now in his early 90's. Both were influential figures in the world of swim and dive for decades. The complex built in the mid 90's sets on Law Ln and Union St. The aquatic complex consist of almost 145,000 of swimming and diving capability. The complex also houses Indiana's polo team. The complex features an 8 lane Olympic size pool with depths of seven to eight feet for greater speed. The complex also features an indoor diving tower. Two one meter and three meter spring board diving. As well as up to 10 meter platform diving. The facility is immaculate and maintained to high standards. Air quality superb. The beauty of the facility comes from the wonderful banners and photos posted on the walls. It really brings the history of Indiana Swim & Dive to life. There is spectator seating, however not large. Estimated capacity is under 500. The wooden bleachers are in need of refinishing. A highlight however for spectators is the gigantic video board showing times and video. They also have a much smaller one at the diving well for polo and dive. Being a Hoosier I can't help but be a fan of the Student Recreational Sports Center / Councilman Billingsley Swimming Pool. What an incredible complex for Indiana University.

The SRSC doesn't even come close, but eh it works. It's like a 24 hour fitness - good enough. It features: *Multiple strength & cardio areas - I typically go to the strength area all the way at the end of the hall, past the basketball/volleyballs. That's where they have 6 or 7 racks + weight. Warning: clean off the bars before you use them - they're filthy. They have an amazing amount of treadmills (even curved treadmills!), rowers and stair steppers. *Group exercise/yoga & Pilates studio - I've taken a Zumba class here and tried to take a yoga class (addt'l $8 punch card needed!) They're just okay, but hey it's cheap. *Seven racquetball/wallyball courts, two squash courts, table tennis, & badminton *Five basketball/volleyball courts - Haven't played basketball or volleyball, but I've played intramural kickball on these courts. They'll just partition off a section of intramural sports. *The Counsilman/Billingsley Aquatic Center (CBAC) Olympic-sized pool/diving well - Swam here once. Not much to say except ask the lifeguards which lanes you can swim in. They'll often have swim meets at this pool, so parking can get a little crowded. *Indoor walking/jogging/running track - this runs right over the basketball/volleyball courts. *Futsal Court TON OF undergrads though so I typically go right when it opens in the AM (6am on weekdays/8 am on weekends).

Parts of it seemed a little dated, but it overall looked clean and well-kept (especially the gym and daycare). While running the 5K, the ground appeared well-kept. I did spot a rather hilarious looking concessions trailer, but it didn't seem out of place and did a good job of providing the kind of ambiance I would expect in rural Kentucky. Would run here again!

The weights in the weight room are never, ever, ever sorted into their correctly labeled spots (you can only blame other patrons up to a certain point--then you have to start asking why the staff aren't enforcing a sorting rule or sorting them themselves). 2. The wifi is spotty. 3. When equipment breaks, repairs take forever. One of the selectorized weight machines had a weight that stuck for months and months after I politely mentioned it to staff multiple times. 4. The men's bathroom by the weight room often has a very strong urine smell and the hinge on the stall door is not dependable. And handle on the sink in there has been broken for weeks. 5. The second hand on one of the wall clocks in the weight room is broken, and has been for a long time, which is frustrating if you want to time a lifting rest. (It's a small thing, but it's the kind of thing staff should handle without having to be asked by their customers. Plus, who wants to be "that guy" who asks them to fix their clock? I already asked once--now I'd rather use up my political capital asking about the wifi.) 6. Any time you have to do ANYTHING in the office, it takes forever. Reception and basic bookkeeping tasks move at a snail's pace. Again, all the staff are very nice, and overall things are not bad. However, there are some continual/recurring (and frustrating) problems that appear to be a lack of proper management.
