On Saturday, October 12, 2025. a friend and I drove approximately 20 miles from Iron Mountain to…read moreVulcan to attend an Estate Sale run by Birdcage Antiques. We were running late, arriving within the last hour. My friend wanted to buy a sofa which was priced at $200.00. Having only $130.00 with her, she offered that amount. The woman running the sale said that she didn't think she could let it go for that price without getting into trouble. Mind you that the next day, Sunday, everything would be 50% off. A man accompanying the saleslady said that there were several people interested in the sofa and that if she really wanted it, she'd better get there early the next day. Sunday morning my friend arrived before 10:00 waiting with other buyers for the sale to begin. To her dismay she saw the sofa along with a matching loveseat already loaded onto a trailer. She went in to inquire how the sofa could already be sold as the sale hadn't even started. The saleslady fiendishly grins saying, "I bought it!" as though she had gotten one over on my friend. No wonder she wouldn't accept her offer of $130.00 - the saleslady wanted it! So much for the statement "she didn't think she could let it go for that price without getting into trouble" being deceit #1. Her sales partner saying "that there were several people interested in the sofa" deceit #2. Why hadn't the woman and man running the Estate Sale either place a "SOLD" tag on the sofa? Or why hadn't they been honest, saying on Saturday that they planned to purchase the sofa. It would have saved her the Sunday morning 40-mile round trip. I don't like when people use guile in their business dealings. In fact, I don't like when anyone uses guile in any situation. This behavior is what causes societal untrust. Neither one of us will ever attend another Birdcage Antiques Estate Sale nor will we ever frequent their store while visiting the Marquette area. We admonish everyone to do the same. The phrase, "buyer beware" certainly reared its ugly head. This experience has been shared exactly as it happened without any exaggeration or falsehood contained within. Shame on you Birdcage Antiques, you know better, but did not.

And not vintage as in "somebody's grandma's 70-year-old dress" - modern retro chic! Find bomber jackets, '50s style polka dot dresses, costume jewelry, Audrey Hepburn attire, and more. If I was in Marquette and needed a costume for a themed soiree or a quirky gift for an old soul, this would be my first stop!

The staff wears vintage pieces and there is one particular gentleman that should be the face of the business (you can see his pictures on the photo gallery). Now onto the actual merchandise: they have a mixture of old and new. The main theme is cloth a from the 50's and so on. They have men's clothes as well. In fact the men's clothes are great for summer vacation. You will definitely be the most dapper looking dude. For the ladies they have a much wider variety with the most beautiful dresses and tulle skirts. The dresses are mostly new vintage like pieces and they are gorgeous and will be perfect for cocktail dresses, weddings, and any other dress up event. A little pricey for my taste, but everything that I have gotten from there over the past couple years has lasted. Throughout the store they have home goods and some of them are in mint condition. They have a corner for vintage handbags and if you are looking for a unique piece you will find it here. Last trip I got the most beautiful pair of sunglasses and they were very affordable and well made. Their selection of sunglasses and old vintage frames is small but beautifully curated. Whoever is responsible for visual merchandising in this store should be so proud. Love shopping there. It's one of my favorite things to do while in the U.P.

They make the experience so much better. The store is filled with antiques, souvenirs, candy, greeting cards. You name it. They have just about everything. Some of my favorite things I've boughten in my entire life are from the Wishing Well. No exaggeration. I'm obsessed with my bird bath, typewriter, antique snack bowl & wall art. There are just the few of many things we've picked up there.... =) The prices are great. They even often have sections with free stuff. I always stop here first before I even go to Goodwill or St Vincent's De Paul, when I'm looking for something used and chances are they have it. For weeks I was searching the Thrift Stores for a nice book shelf & then I went into the Wishing Well & found a huge, sturdy one for only $15. I'm also convinced it's perfect for anyone looking for rustic items for a Wedding or looking to decorate a house. (PERFECT place for a housewarming gift!) I've saved the best for last......CANDY. They have theeee best candy. It's ridiculous how much people will pay for a candy bar at the Gas Station, when you can get so much more at Wishing Well.....and better quality too. The chocolate covered peanuts & blueberries are just to die for. The jordan almonds. The razzles. The bubble gum. Everything there is so delicious. I just love the Wishing Well. Definitely recommend it to all.
