It was just minutes before closing and I was still given a gracious reception. I was a little embarrassed as I explained that I had brought a piece of costume jewelry that needed a repair in the chain, that it wasn't valuable except to me because a beloved friend had given it to me. The young woman that greeted me was reassuring and asked to see the necklace. She put it under her jeweler's light and magnifying glass and was able to repair it as I waited. If you have ever had a sentimental piece that you thought was ruined, and someone was able to repair it you will have an idea of the joy I felt when she handed the necklace back to me and I slipped it around my neck. This is what I know, from now on I will be stopping in at this lovely shop for any gifts I need. In this past year, I have made a personal commitment to avoid shopping online and instead I want to support local shop owners. They are the ones that invest in our community and I want to honor that. My reception and service that I experienced at "The Velvet Case" has increased my commitment to stop there first and I will be back often to celebrate birthdays, graduations, weddings, and new babies.

They confirmed it wasn't the same one that fell out previously, as well as making sure all the others were seated firmly. I should mention the ring was not purchased here, although they do have beautiful and unique jewelry there for sale. I will admit, I should have posted this review several months ago, I just forgot I hadn't already done it.

At first, my husband stood outside with the dogs while I browsed. Everyone greeted me upon entry and Linda came over to see if she could assist. I explained what I was looking for and she showed me some items in the store. We talked about pros and cons of a few options, then Linda presented an alternative, which she showed me online since it was at one of their other stores. I immediately loved the alternative, so I was going to go out and hold the dogs so my husband could look. Linda had us bring our pups in so both of us could look and talk. Folks in the store were very welcoming to the dogs and even keep dog treats on hand. But anyway, my husband liked Linda's suggestion as well. We went with the idea and she assured us that the jeweler would make everything fit perfectly. In essence, we had a three stone setting put onto a different band so that the ring would set flush against my wedding band. Richard did a fantastic job. I absolutely love my three stone ring. It turned out better than I could have imagined. It was also completed as promised, within a week. I couldn't be happier. Overall, it was the perfect experience. If you are in the market for jewelry or in need of a jewelry repair, you should visit Keller & George. Thanks again, Linda and Richard.

Update: After posting my review, the store manager called to offer a re-repair of my engagement…read morering. However, I have already had the repairs done elsewhere (as stated in my review) due to valid concerns over work quality. During the call, it was made clear that because the mistakes were fixed elsewhere, they would not be taking any further steps to make the situation right. This was a problem they created as what should have been a straightforward repair turned into significant damage that forced me to take matters into my own hands and seek repairs with another jeweler. While I appreciated the follow-up, it is clear that the situation will not be made right. Original review: I'm extremely disappointed in my recent experience with Schwarzschild Keller & George Jewelers. I brought in my engagement ring on June 20 for what should have been a simple and routine prong re-tipping, quoted at $100. When I finally picked it up on July 11 (after delays), the ring looked nothing like the one I had entrusted to them: the prongs were uneven, the center stone was crooked, there were visible solder marks, and the craftsmanship was shockingly poor. I was told the work would be redone at no charge, but the damage to my ring and the quality of the first repair made me uncomfortable entrusting it to them again. A second jeweler has since confirmed that the entire head of the ring now needs to be rebuilt, at a cost of $375, damage that would not have occurred had the original work been done properly. I first contacted Keith directly on July 16 to try and resolve this, and then submitted a message via the "Contact Us" form on their website on July 21 (which states someone will respond within 48 hours). As of today, I have received no response at all. The lack of accountability and total silence from the store is unacceptable. I now have to spend nearly four times the original estimate to fix damage caused by their own poor workmanship. I would not recommend this jeweler based on my experience.

I'm more of a comic book collector, but their section of graphic novels was fun to dig around. Some further digging led to more finds, and even the person working the counter joining in to help find some more. Walked out with some great TPB's, GN's, and a hardcover I've been hoping to find in the wild for the better part of 20 years.
