This is what vacations are made of…read more Centrally located in the historic district of Verona, the B&B 2Terrazze takes its name from the two lovely terraces that saddle the place, providing either a lovely spot to breakfast under the Verona sun, or a quiet reprieve from the city bustle to study one's city guide. I was eminently pleased with the cleanliness, privacy, decor, and cheer at 2Terrazze. Check-in is usually at 2:00PM or 2:30PM, depending on what is arranged. Once inside the courtyard, and up the flight of lovely steps, one enters a lounge that is in many respects an oasis. Here, one can browse literature about the city, inform oneself of Verona's current events and cultural opportunities, including the current opera programme at the Arena. The room was comfortably furnished with everything one might wish, save perhaps an extra waste paper basket for the desk. The bed was fresh and inviting, and the shower/bathroom was fit for a four-star hotel. Air conditioning is a must-have in Verona, and 2Terrazze provides that sweet kiss of cool like a champ. Owing to the comfort and class I was wallowing in, I found myself unable to protest against sacrificing two hours of my preciously short stay in Verona to relax, cool, and collect myself and to plan the specifics of my agenda for my stay. The owner, Alessandro, is a young, amicable fellow who speaks Italian, English, Japanese, and some German. He is quite knowledgeable about the city, and guided my party to a lovely osteria for our evening meal, in addition to advising us on other possibilities throughout the city. Sadly, we couldn't follow up on all his recommendations, but you know what they say...live to yelp another day! Alessandro said that he receives so many German guests, that he has started serving German-style breakfasts, in addition to the compulsory Italian-style breakfast. He makes a great cappucino. I think it was while sipping my second cup on the back terrace that I decided I could stay in Verona for at least another month, if time were permitting. For those who spontaneously decide to stay a bit longer, Alessandro cooperates with the owner of another flat that is also quite centrally located, and actually optimally situated halfway between the main train station and the Arena/Piazza Bra'. The apartment is cute, air conditioned, and well-furnished, even with a washing machine. The only drawback is the absence of wifi.

La Magnolia is one of the first B&Bs in Verona. It is not too far from the train station. From the…read morestation, it is a little difficult to find, however once you pass the major roads there are actually brown signs directing you to it. It is located in a neighborhood. When you book, the owner asks to tell her when you are to arrive so that she can be present to let you in the locked gates-she lives at a different location. Martina is sweet and knows a little English, Spanish, and French. Her daughter helps her run the business and understands more English. Martina's daughter checked us in and she was wonderful- she gave us a map and circled all the best places to go in Verona- it really did help. We had a private room and private bathroom. At first the shower temperature was freezing but we let them know and they raised the temperature (they had lowered it for children staying there). The air conditioning worked well and there is a tv. There is a bidet in the bathroom and the shower has a rain shower in it! Martina provides you with two towels and two hand towels every day. We were also given small travel sized shampoo and conditioner. There is body wash located in the shower as well. Breakfast was a perfect time to talk to Martina and the other guests. She really does care about you and makes sure that you have enough to eat and are happy. Food includes meat, bread, Nutella, croissants and coffee. Downsides, the outdoor seating looks better in pictures. The WiFi is VERY spotty- be prepared to use your cellular data. Verona also offers free WiFi at certain areas and that didn't even work. The train tracks are also located RIGHT behind the B&B so if you are a light sleeper this is not the place for you. The trains move constantly and every now and then when they stop they sound like someone screaming. I really did enjoy my stay here though it was on the expensive side and I always felt safe walking back after dark.

The good and the bad. This is a hostel, not a bnb, first thing first. I came here with my…read moregirlfriend, and she likes to walk, which is good because it is pretty far from.... everything. 10-15 minutes walking from the train station isn't too bad, but 25 minutes to the center of town gets a bit annoying. Other than that, it is right next to the train tracks, so they keep you up all night. Air conditioning did work, but the wifi didn't. My girlfriend took a cold shower, and couldn't figure out how to get heat. Turns out, they "turned the hot water off because there was kids staying there before us".... ummmm, ok? I guess? Not really a great reassurance, but whatever. The owner seemed very friendly, although she spoke veryyyyyyy little English. The daughter was great as well, and spoke more English. Apparently that is a thing (helpful tip incoming): older generations speak Italian, and then also are taught other languages like French and German or Spanish, while younger generations are taught Italian and English. And breakfast was included, small breakfast.... kitchen pastries and coffee, some cereal. All in all, a good experience, but bad location.
