This weekend I decided after months of moaning from the wife to fit our new roll top bath which needed taps. My local supplier was closed being a Saturday (11th Jan 2014) so I decided to visit B & Q and use my trade point card I was given. I found some bath taps & sink taps that were suitable and asked for the "Trade Price". I was informed by "Rob" the manager of the Bathroom department that the trade gives me roughly "10%off" any taps. I must admit I was slightly disappointed however I know someone who works for B&Q who informed me that they can not only price match but beat a price by 10%. I left for Wickes and found the same taps but £30 cheaper (Got proof of prices and managers name). Upon returning to B&Q I approached the same person "Rob" and asked him why Wickes was cheaper to the public than B&Q was to the trade? His reply was "What do you want from me" to which I informed him to "honour their promise to beat anyone on price within a 10mile radius". He then stated "I'm not honouring this mate, I haven't gotta anything" upon asking to speak the manager he refused to do this stating he was "Done with me" I then asked for the contact number for head office to which, after I stated I wanted to open a complaint he replied "I'm not given it to you" I attended the help desk and spoke with the store manager "Wayne" and I informed him I no longer wanted to buy the taps but make a formal complaint, however her seemed to side step my complaint and would rather ask who I knew at B&Q! Iv reported them to trading standards and opened a formal complaint with their head office.

Clarence hardware is a proper old fashioned shop, a family business that has been open for the last 50 years. The hardware and DIY shop offers something that very few other shops do these days, they offer a one to one service. Their staff are friendly and knowledgeable and are more than likely to crack a good humoured joke or two. They don't have a website because they just have too many varieties of things to list. When I was a young teenager I first discovered this phenomenon, and was confused, it was to be said. A hardware store? Why is everyone so excited? It's so boooooooring. But now I've grown up and have started to think very differently. I went in the other day, out of the same old curiosity, and I 'got it'. This shop is filled to the brim with everything that you need to satisfy your hardware needs. But it's the cosy factor and the personable service in this shop that makes it such a pleasant experience to go into. I was trying to find a bulb for my friend's lamp, and, stupidly, had not checked to see what type it took. But the person behind the counter figured it out when supplied with a description of said lamp, and lo and behold! they were right. Imagine is B&Q or Wickes shrank down and got a heart. This would result in something very much the same as Hardings Hardware. A shop to support and be proud of.

It's definitely worth coming by here if you're in the area - although it's a bit away from the centre of town (and far away from my abode), so I normally just try to secure whatever I need from nearby Bay shops. In any case, I think Harding's is one of the better independent shops around for hardware tools and other DIY fundamentals, as the shelves are well-stocked and the staff here are lovely.
