Bit dark and dingy at the back but not a big problem, and can be a bit of a nightmare to get through with the pushchair. Can be a little expensive compared to the supermarkets or the high street giants, but who cares! Its only a few pennies more, which i think is worth it! A light and airy warehouse with nice wide aisles. A good selection of paints and decorating materials. The staff always seem helpful and polite. They have some outdoor items like fencing and paving. A range of different types of trolley to use depending on what you are buying. A good selection of power tools and safety equipment.

The only issue is that they don't do the free wood cutting service like Homebase or B&Q, which can be a pain. When Wickes first opened many years ago I remember that they were amazingly cheap. Then they started to increase their prices once they got a market share. Most of their items are own brand and I have to admit that whilst they are cheap for many things, there are still others like Wilkinsons or Screwfix who can still undercut them on pricing.

As well as all of the usual stuff that you would find in the likes of B&Q or Wickes, Jewsons then take it all to a higher level with all sorts of additional bits and pieces and materials. I know every time I have run up against a particular problem on a project I've gone to talk it through with these guys to see what they recommend and each time they have never failed me. You can spend a day orienteering or cycling along its 9km family cycling trail. The recently rejuvenated forest cafe offers drinks and delicious handmade goodies. You can amble, run, hike, cycle, picnic, BBQ or just sit among the trees and watch the wildlife - lovely. A newly built arial climbing run called 'Go Ape' will open again in the spring. My kids loved it although it is a little expensive. The forest is managed by the forestry commission and does charge a small entrance/parking fee but you can get a yearly pass.
