Phone shops check,pound shops check, sub-standard cup of coffee check,feeble excuse for a market check and enough flammable shell suits to fill an Oxfam on a Tuesday night in Mani. About four years ago Littlewoods went out of business and left a huge empty 2 storey shop in the exchange centre. It is still empty now because of the stupid rates that the Centre owners try to charge people,the Market is dire because of the rates the Centre owners charge. Notice a theme here? The good folk of Rochdale keep being told that we will be soon getting a Debenhams,thanks for that,a shop everybody has had for the last 3 billion years,what's next, indoor toilets???? This is horrible,what started off as a true representation of my sorry excuse of a shopping centre has turned into me considering running in the Council elections. In a post apocalyiptical future when we are all slaves to our Cockroach Overlord Masters I hope to bring you a more favourable review of The Rochdale Exchange Sopping Centre. This shop is invaluable to anyone but more so if you're a low income family…read more They stock an extensive range of branded products at cheaper prices then most super markets etc. I tend to get all my toiletries from here and domestic cleaning products etc. However, it gets better, they also stock a fairly good range of affordable toys and home wares and if you have a sweet tooth you'll be in heaven. Even if you're not in search of anything in particular it's always worth a look around as you'll be surprised at what you might find. Not all branches are as well laid out and stocked as others but the Breightmet branch is big, airy, nice wide aisles and has friendly staff.

This particular store is located in Oldham, next to the Tesco on Huddersfield Road, and very close to many fast food chains such as Mcdonald's, Domino's and Subway. The store in particular is quite large, with reasonably narrow isles, which could be hard to squeeze in with prams / wheelchairs, which just ensures they can fit as many items in as possible, although it doesn't seem as much as a jumble sale as Sports Direct, which is something you would expect from a large, discount retailer like this. As this store is part of the "home store" brand of B and M, they don't seem to stock some items stocked in the " bargains" store such as a wider range of drinks including Lipton Iced Tea, which is stocked in the branch at the Stretford mall. The decor of this store is simply very basic, and not the nicest, most modern place, but still for a more discount store, it is unexpected for them to focus on discount, rather than cramming lots of cheaper items into a space. The staff didn't seem too great or sociable, and didn't seem too willing in starting a conversation, being as quiet as watching a Wigan Athletic game until she mentioned a price, that was all. The price for what I bought was reasonable, but I didn't go round closely monitoring the prices, so it would be unfair for me to comment fully on that. They do stock a good range of pet food, and a satisfactory range of most other things, but range on certain items can be a little basic, although it is more "home store" dominated, which I don't feel suits the company at all, rather than the "bargains" brand which has better items.

I always pop in and have a look whenever I am down that way. Well worth a visit if your in the Area. A good size store with lots of bargins to be found. I love the fact that you can go in this shop and get the things you want at great value prices. The household stuff is really nice and they do things like curtains, throws, pictures, kitchen accessories and small electricals, pictures, bedding and small accessories. They have a good stock of food stuff tins, coffee, tea, condements and some bread, milk, chilled meats. They also have a good range of beers and wines on offer at great prices. Lots of Chocolate, biscuits and chrips ideal for treats for the kids. They have a small selction of clothes in store, which are ok, and you can sometimes find a Bargin. The Toys are excellent value with many top brands at half the RRP. They do a good selection of toiletries and Cleaning products, they also stock seasonal good, loads of lovely Xmas stuff, lights and decorations in the Winter, Garden furniture, garden ornaments and accessories and plants in the summer.

When you walk in, you'll find the bottom floor is devoted to leather Chesterfields, wooden sideboards and oversized paintings. There are loads of little gems hiding beneath them, too: I found a few collectable glass bottles for just £1 each! And once you've had your fill of furniture, you can head upstairs where there's stalls by over 20 traders, selling vintage fabrics, homeware and collectables. There's also the Empire Tea Rooms - a bargain cafe, which sells a huge range of herbal tea, as well as bargain fry ups, jackets potatoes and lots of other lovely stuff. The men who work here are lovely and it's so cheap! Just 60p for a cup of tea! Finally, up in the attic, there's a vintage clothes shop, which has some ace retro frocks at around £10 each. The menswear is even more competitive; they had a beautiful suit for £15! Empire House is open every day except Saturday - I'm definitely going back!
