Luckily the Oxfam bookshop has a small English book section, and I regularly have a look see for any new additions. The books on offer are usually in good condition, a couple of times I've found a bit of a scribbler has been at them though. Naturally the German selection is much wider and they're a reasonable price (the ones I buy usually end up back in the shop after I've struggled through them). The staff are usually friendly and helpful and a couple of them speak English, which was useful when the only German I knew was Zwei Bier, bitte. If you want to buy a book or donate a book it's well worth a visit.

Head down the stairs and go straight on. If you hit the wall, you've gone too far. You'll only find the latest best sellers, or some of the classics, along with a few children's books, but if you, like me, enjoy leafing through a book, rather than buying online, then it's a nice place to go. That said, they often move things around, and that's annoying. They have a good ordering service, and do gift vouchers. They aren't like gift vouchers in the UK, you can only use them in this shop.

If you are looking for a gift, this might be the right place for books (small paperbacks to large coffee table volumes), CDs (music and audio books) and DVDs. However, if it is meant to be a present, make sure that it is not one with Mängelexemplar stamped in large letters on the cover (it means faulty, with [small] imperfections). You can, after all, find books here that don't cry cheap and discount. Oh yes, and they do have a section of English books as well.
