This place is very cute and tiny. But not exactly what I thought it would be. We found this place right after Christmas while roaming our hood. The owner / chef made an impression on us when she bumped her head on the door in her rush to unlock the door to greet us as we peered in. We were told they would be re-opening January 4th so we made plans to come check it out that week.
When we arrived, there was a group of 4 filling up the sushi bar behind which the chef and her partner were working. It was apparent they were all friends. There were two main tables which were reserved and another minibar along the wall. That is where we sat.
The menu is handwritten and unbound. Cool.
I had the menu with Chirashi (22 E) and my wife had the menu with the chicken soup (19 E) .
A shrimp salad was the final other thing that rounded out the menu.
Everything is fresh and organic. The salad was delicious and the combination of goji, pomegranates, dried mulberries, and sesame oil, ginger, and soy was pretty ingenious.
The chirashi bowl was also fresh and composed well but perhaps on the small side.
A freshly squeezed glass of apple juice rounded out the menu.
Throughout the meal, there was an awkward silence throughout the restaurant and I think that perhaps background music could possibly help lighten the ambiance.
I also hope they either rotate their menu or expand their selection in the future because my wife wasn't very thrilled with her chicken soup and she is not really big in seafood. read more
