My experience at this lodge was mixed, but overall, I had a positive stay. I enjoyed the rooms. They were clean, the AC worked well, and the room was comfortable. I also liked that the lodge was attached to a small shopping center, which made it convenient to grab food late at night with several options nearby. The customer service was okay. The staff weren't the friendliest, but overall, I didn't have any major issues. I had requested a crib when making my booking, but apparently, the request was never received. If you need one, I'd recommend calling ahead to confirm. We were still able to get a crib, but we had to wait for it to be delivered later that night. As for breakfast, it's definitely one of the more basic continental breakfasts I've had. There were scrambled eggs, bacon, and various breads, along with the usual basics. It was okay at best, but it's always nice to have breakfast included, so I can't complain too much. Another plus was the free parking. Overall, the stay was decent and the pricing was reasonable. We chose this lodge because it was a more affordable option for staying somewhat close to San Diego. I would recommend it if you're looking for a clean and affordable place to stay. The hotel itself is cute and cozy, and after a long drive, we were happy to arrive and find that the room was comfortable and nicely decorated. Unfortunately, our experience at check-in was disappointing because of the customer service we received. We arrived around 6:00 PM on August 7, 2026. The two girls at the front desk were not welcoming at all--no smile, no friendly greeting, and overall a very cold attitude. We are very friendly people and also work in the hospitality industry, so we understand that hotel jobs can be busy and stressful. However, basic courtesy and hospitality should still be there. One of the employees was repeatedly going outside to a car that was parked outside while we were trying to get assistance, which made the whole experience feel even more unprofessional. The biggest issue was when we asked about the complimentary shuttle service. The employee told us she would call and let us know. We went up to our room to get ready for the evening and waited. No one ever contacted us. We eventually called the front desk ourselves, only to find out that they apparently don't make those calls at all. We felt completely ignored. It's unfortunate because we actually liked the hotel and our room. The property itself has a lot going for it, but the interaction with these two employees really affected our first impression and overall experience. Hopefully management can address the customer-service issue because a welcoming front desk makes a huge difference, especially after guests have traveled a long way to get there. read more

Very peaceful hotel! Great location, it's next to a small shopping/restaurant center. Right off the freeway but you can't hear it. I had looked at probably 20 different hotels before deciding on Ayres Lodge. So many other hotels would've been closer to our event in Santee but had horrible ratings and way too expensive! Worth driving the few extra miles. Upon checking in the staff was nice, we asked for restaurant recommendations and they gave us some good ones! One was Grand Ole BBQ Flinn! The room we got was downstairs in front and it was great. Parking was no problem, there was plenty. Just FYI, there are no elevators, just stairs. This is not a modern building. But don't let that stop you from staying here! The room was very nice and clean. The bathroom/shower all worked fine. We had a mini fridge. We were there 2 night, everything was great and would definitely stay again. The town of Alpine was great, we went to a Wine and Cigar Bar, it was relaxing in their outdoor patio. We tried eating at Janet Montana's for breakfast but because of the Holiday it was beyond packed. Hopefully we'll try next time. :-) read more

What a dump! No body wash in the shower - good luck with no soap either! The parking lot is full of shipping containers too, so there's no close parking by the rooms. The walls are paper thin so I didn't get much sleep. The coffee was pretty bad and matched the breakfast bar in the lobby. I definitely won't be coming back to this C- hotel!! read more

The only complaint I have about this place is if you are late for the 7pm fresh baked cookies they will be gone. Our entire company has stayed here 3 to 4 nights weekly for the past 3-1/2 months and they have been great. The staff is amazing. Heather, Ashley and the entire staff go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome and at home. We travel for work and have visited hotels all over the country and this place and staff stand out. The rooms are well kept and I highly recommended Ayres Lodge if you are ever visiting Alpine. This establishment accused me of smoking in the room, which was not true. I was putting the cigarette butts in the waste paper basket, but I never smoke inside. Ayres Lodge personnel would not listen and told us we had to be out of the room that afternoon. They did not inform us there was a problem, they just evicted us. Although they changed their mind and said we could spend another night, Ayres Lodge is not an establishment I recommend to anyone. read more

The worst experience ever. My family and I were on our way to this horrible business to stay for a night while visiting family in Alpine. As we were about 20 mins away we receive a text, (not a call!), that they overbooked. Mind you we made the reservation weeks prior! I called to get some clarification on how this could happen and the girl at the front desk could have cared less! No explanation! No compassion for our situation of not having a place to stay while we were also traveling with young children. My husband calls back to speak with a manager. Guess what?? There is none there! Apparently Heather was gone for the day! We were stuck talking to another rude employee, this time male and with the BIGGEST attitude! Again, no compassion, no solutions, not even an "I'm sorry". This disgusting human wouldn't even give us his name and actually hung up on my husband. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. If this was a simple mistake we would have been understanding. The lack of accountability and compassion was just unimaginable. At arrival we received a warm welcome from the front desk clerk. The check in was fast, easy and made us feel at home. The room was spacious and clean with a nice size TV. Bathroom was also spacious really nice with a deep tub. Pool area was clean with just a couple of people enjoying themselves. My only complaint is that the bed was a little rickety. We are very familiar with Ayers properties so we decided to give this converted motel a try. The rooms were very comfortable and most importantly clean. The courtyard area was very nice and relaxing. It had a fire pit and even a gas grill if you wanted to cook yourself. The staff was very pleasant and accommodating. I am looking forward to go back!! read more

Place was real clean. They had it sanitized before I came. I have been in way too many good hotels that where not that clean. This hotel is immaculate. The view is not great. Running children above us. Plenty of usb and power plugs all over the place. Couch was not very comfortable. Bed was too soft. Couch needs a large pillow for you back. I put two throw pillows. But, neck got tired. Six drawers. Microwave, safe and noisy refrigerator. If you like a soft bed this place is good. The breakfast was very good. The guy cooking was real friendly. Review #092 - 2019 We showed up at around 6:30 PM on April 4th and the check-in process was pretty quick & easy. When my niece heard that there was free fresh baked cookies from 7-8 PM everyday, she was super excited! We went to put our stuff away & check out our room, and everything was nice & clean. The bed was nice and comfortable, even though I had to share it with my niece & daughter--while my son had the other bed all to himself. We came back to grab a few cookies around 7:15 PM & the girls really enjoyed them. They even have free orange juice & apple juice! Unfortunately, the girls were kind of disappointed that they didn't have any milk. They have complimentary breakfast from 6-9 AM, but the kids were still sleeping so I came by to see what was offered because my niece loves pancake & my daughter loves bacon. Sadly, neither were offered so I just got a bowl of cereal, milk, a banana, an apple and two muffins for the kids to snack on during our drive back to LA. The check out process was quick and easy as well. If it weren't located out of the way to San Diego, I'd definitely consider coming back to stay here in the future. read more

I am here for a bike event in Pine Valley, so I chose to stay in alpine due to proximity. The front desk was nice, the grounds are cute and the room was clean enough, however in need of a drastic update! Old carpet and furniture and the bed was very old and very uncomfortable. Also, the old toilet had a hard time flushing and would run if you didn't hold the handle down. I know $320 doesn't get you much anymore, but a simple update and a new mattress would really make this place worth it. read more

We selected this hotel as a compromise on location and price, coming into the San Diego area. We only required a place to sleep as we went about our road trip. 1- most of the stars come from staff and cleanliness. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Despite being an older hotel, it was recently updated and very clean. There were no coverlettes or throw pillows to worry about, and the blanket provided was sufficiently warm. 2- we did not include this info in our rating since it is a matter of personal preference: the mattress is very soft. We sank toward one another. (We are fairly normal sized folks, neither huge nor tiny.) I have a busted shoulder and he a bad back so this style does not accommodate us too well. 3- main drawback and the culprit for the lost star was that it was not very sound proof. Just the basic noises of checking out were mildly intrusive. That being said, we tend to sleep in. The noises did not interrupt us too early and were more of an annoyance as we woke up than a cause for us waking up. Overall, as an affordable option in the San Diego area on a road trip, would stop there again. read more

Wow, staying here was such a delight! We came for an event at the Viejas Casino and since staying there was a bit pricey we opted to stay here instead. They have a very convenient shuttle to and from the casino, the last pick up from the casino back to the hotel is at 1:15am! I thought that was amazing. I was able to have a few drinks and not worry about my ride! All of the staff was incredibly friendly and pleasant. The lobby has water and hot coffee, they also serve fresh cookies from 7-8pm. A real treat if you bring children. They offer a complimentary breakfast, and let me tell you- it's not continental. I enjoyed biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs. They also had bacon, oatmeal, cereal, bagels, fruit, yogurt etc. The shopping center in front of the hotel is also very convenient. There is a liquor store (for those that partake in libations) with a really cool selection of craft beers, a yummy Greek restaurant, Carls Jr, Little Caesar's, chase bank, donut shop... all in walking distance! This room its self is very average. Clean, comfy bed, awkward bathroom set up though. All in all this place is a gem and I will stay here again. read more

I can not believe this place has a Five star review!?? It's a very old Dated musky cabin type. They definitely make the pictures look better then how they actually look. The ppl working here are very nice, but the room is pretty gross, the sheets had weird gross mystery stains on them and when I woke up in the morning my legs were full of bites so I'm pretty sure there was bedbugs. The tv kept dying out, and the water pressure is horrible! This place is not worth $135 a night, this is more like a 2 star cheap place. The Alpine Lodge is right off I-10 and is east to get to. The check-in process was easy. The room was and bed were comfortable. Lots of TV stations to choice from if you like that. The refrigerator was loud and the freezer portion was caked with ice. Your welcome, I defrosted it for you. Breakfast was the same daily - Biscuits & a plane white gravy & eggs. The meat alternated day to day between Sausage and Bacon. There were apples and bananas as well as fruit cups. Cold and hot cereal options were available as well as muffins. DISGUSTING! Old nasty small and dirty rooms with uncomfortable beds and horrible furniture decor. Some rooms must be long term tenants as they have multiple rooms with decorations on the windows. Probably the worst customer service I have ever experienced dealing with the manager Larry Clark. When we checked in to our room last night, I immediately let the front desk know the room stunk of cigarette smoke. The lady Gwen who was super nice (this review is not about her at all she was very friendly and helpful) and she told me unfortunately she couldn't help because the rooms were all booked. I told her I understood but it's frustrating since I had to initial that it was a non smoking room. Fast forward another 30 minutes and my song tried to take a shower and waited 14 minutes to let the water warm up and it never got warm. It was strange because the sink water finally got warm after several minutes but it's like since they were at capacity it was taking forever for the water to warm Up. We had to get to bed and didn't have time to wait for the water unfortunately. When I checked out I told the lady at the front desk and she told me she leave the note for the manager and have him call me when he got in. That phone call never came and I ended up calling back around noon. The manager Larry was extremely unprofessional, said that in all his experience that it didn't happen and that he personally knows the person who stayed in the room before and knows they don't smoke. So the manager, is friends with the guest that stayed there before me, let them smoke in the room is what it seems and is calling me the customer a liar. I'm literally a hard working single mom who just wanted to treat my son to a cool looking hotel the night before an out of town baseball game. And this is what I'm dealing with now. The manger ended up letting it slip at the end of the conversation though as to why he's mad. He mentioned that I had already left a review with Expedia and he was pretty angry sounding about it. I would have absolutely added something positive to the review had he helped me. I wasn't even looking for a refund in the beginning. Now I will be settling it with Expedia or my credit card company because that was awful. He punished me because I answered the Expedia survey truthfully. The property is nicely maintained they offer breakfast they have a hot tub and pool as well. Plus my dog is welcome to stay with me with out having to jump hoops they have nice newer furniture large tv and free wifi. Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while in town for a wedding. Considering that there is not much in Alpine, except Veijas nearby, this was a decent hotel. Rooms were clean and the pool area was very nice. I did not try the free breakfast but love that they had it. I was annoyed that the Internet never worked and that they charged for it. So this place turned crazy when the wedding ended and the after parties began - we room hopped until we were yelled at about 5 times to be quiet, I felt bad for the manager but come on, we gave you more business than you've had in years!!! Our stay was mixed. For the price, I expected more. There may not be many places to stay in the area but this was not exactly what was expected. Pros: Great area - Alpine. OK breakfast - bread, premade omelets and breakfast sandwiches, cereal, juice, coffee. Freshly baked cookie service for an hour in the evening Eateries are closely located. Looks like recently renovated inside rooms. Cleaning staff were always present during the day and maintenance seemed to be ongoing. Cons: Dirty comforters and linens (we asked for new sheets and comforters several times but comforters were all stained with what looked like old blood stains, hard yellow stains and brown spots so we gave up asking for new comforters and ended up using worn blankets). Hairs left in shower (when we arrived and throughout stay). Towels and bedding are thin and not soft. Felt rushed out at breakfast (staff started spraying tables and stacking chairs on top of tables next to us a few minutes before end of breakfast time - I guess guests are not supposed to stay and eat their breakfast after breakfast ends...) From the outside, does not look like the mountain lodge we were expecting - more like an inn or motel. You can also hear people upstairs - sounded like kids were jumping onto the floor at times. We wanted to like this place since we wanted to enjoy our getaway weekend but we will not come back. read more

Comfortable, clean, still getting upgraded. They're installing an elevator at one end. The walkways seem a bit narrow, and anyone in rooms near the elevator shaft may feel closed in when they walk out of their rooms. Courtyard is narrow and long, simply landscaped, but a nice area away from the typical parking lot outside of hotel/motel rooms. Each time we stepped out, there seemed to be people smoking out there. That would be a deterrent for us if we had wanted to hang outside. Nice contained spot for dogs if you happen to bring yours with. Breakfast was decent...perhaps In response to other reviews, they offered bananas (a bit too green for me) and delicious, crisp apples along with the rest of the typical breakfast fare. The room felt spacious. Furnishings: comfortable linens and pillows; a couch and desk rounded out the simple yet newer looking furniture. Lots of spots to plug in if you happen to have multiple devices with you. Towels were thicker and softer than I expected. Blackout curtains and a shower curtain that can easily be changed out and cleaned for each new visitor were also nice touches. The only notable fail was the water pressure in the shower. Started off very strong and HOT, but all of that changed when someone in another unit turned on their water. Cold and dribble showers are no good in my book. The hotel neighbors a business center with some shops, a couple of restaurants, a bank, and I don't remember what else. Overall a convenient place to stop if you are in east county San Diego. read more

My husband and I stay here a couple times every year but we had to post-pone last year due to Covid so we were really happy to be back! We stayed two nights and were pleased with the room and accommodations. The office being open 24/7 is a huge plus and the staff is so friendly and welcoming. My husband especially loves the cookies they put out for guests! Heather Jolly helped us get reservations after having to reschedule several times in 2020 due to Covid. She was very responsive and accommodating! We were told upon arrival that a troop of Marines are staying here long-term, so we were a bit concerned that there would be crowding and noise at odd hours when we realized we had a room on the side they were all staying on. There was some gathering in the hallways and definitely more traffic than we are used to here but it really wasn't an issue at all. The location is perfect- lots of restaurants, gas stations, a 24 hour Rite Aid and very close to outdoor activities. The only reason I'm not giving a 5 star rating is the jacuzzi was murky, cloudy, and smelled really bad. The jacuzzi is one of my favorite amenities when we stay in a hotel so that was a bummer. Against our better judgment we went in on our first night but didn't stay long due to the condition of the water- it probably should be closed to guests and fixed... Over all, we love this place and will be returning guests year after year for our quick weekend getaways! read more

Looks like there hasn't been any recent reviews, but I just stayed here for 3 nights and thought I'd post a note about my experience. The room: I stayed in a deluxe king, which included the microwave and mini fridge. It was a standard size room you'd find in any hotel, and my favorite part was the bed!! Dream sleeper heaven...I love Ayres hotel beds!! They are beyond comfortable, and just lying on one is vacation enough for me! :-) The bathroom area was a little small, but it was fine. Overall, the room was extremely clean, and well-kept. Breakfast: Unlike other Ayres, this one does not offer a "full" hot breakfast that includes pancakes, French toast, waffles, eggs, etc. Instead, they offered bagels, pastries, cereal, and "frozen-style" breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches, along with coffee and orange juice. I would imagine it has something to do with the small dining area, but it would have been nice if they, at least, offered fresh fruit. The breakfast selection was the only reason I subtracted one star, since they use their "complimentary hot breakfast" as a selling point, and this hotel lacks the amazing layout of the other Ayres. Hotel: Yes, it looks like a motel from the outside, but never once did I feel unsafe in my room. It's a nice, quiet and safe area. Location: It's located right behind a little center that includes a few restaurants, and other businesses. I tried both Mañanas, and Panda Machi, and both were very yummy! Read my reviews for both!
