The place did not feel very lively when I arrived, and I noticed there were less than four teenagers around the entire time I was there, which made the atmosphere feel a bit empty. I was not expecting anything fancy, but I did expect the basics to feel a little more comfortable and updated. The room had a few issues that stood out to me. Some parts of it looked older and could really use a refresh, and a couple of things did not work as smoothly as they should have. It was not awful, but it did make the stay feel less relaxing than I wanted. The noise level also made it a little harder to settle in, since I could hear people outside and in nearby rooms during the night. It was not overwhelming, just noticeable enough to be distracting. The service felt a bit rushed, which surprised me. I do not need a lot of attention, but I do appreciate when staff seem engaged or welcoming. Instead, everything felt a little distant, like they were just trying to get through the day. It did not ruin the experience, but it did not help it either. Even though the stay was manageable overall, the inconveniences added up enough that I could not fully enjoy my time there. That is why I am giving it 2 stars. I do not think the place is hopeless or beyond fixing. In fact, I really want this location to improve on itself. With some updates, better maintenance, and a bit more attention to the guest experience, it could become a much more comfortable and enjoyable place to stay. I hope they take steps in that direction because the potential is definitely there.

So I have to say John and his wonderful and beautiful customer service that he gave us was awesome The next day when it was time for us to leave we called up and John was there and we requested a luggage rack and he came up and brought us a luggage rack we were able to go downstairs and check out so smoothly You did everything with the smile it was wonderful ruined expecting that but we got a wonderful service for the job You deserves to be praised and we're praising him through Yelp. when we come back to El cajon will definitely stay at this hotel room it was big enough I mean big enough for us it felt like a sweet but not really but for us always ordering two beds we always get a double with this time we got cleans and which was nice. The one thing he told me was, "Make sure you go when Chef Sergio is working." So before heading over, I actually called ahead to make sure Chef Sergio was there. Man, he did not disappoint. This guy can seriously cook. I ordered the chicken battered burger with coleslaw, and it was incredible. When he brought the food out to my table, I asked him what his secret was. He smiled and said, "I cook with love, providing a new experience of taste with each serving." That sold me right there. This is officially going to be my go-to spot anytime I'm looking for something good to eat.

Noisy neighbors and most importantly the front desk staff were NOT friendly or welcoming! A "thank you" or how can we help you could go a long way. Please someone look into this. First off, I had no idea there were 2 hotels at Viejas and honestly love the Willows Hotel & Spa, plus it's a 21+. When you walk in, it feels like a mini Vegas hotel. You go upstairs to the front desk and service was really great, from the check in process to the luggage assistance. But it's really when you get up to the room that is impressive; probably one of the nicer rooms that I've stayed in which a nice open area with a mini bar, desk and living room. The bedroom is in a separate room and much to my surprise, there was a special birthday setup on the bed for me (loved it!). And can't forget the extra large shower with rainfall faucet and all the amenities you would need. On to the spa. Amazing. While it's on the smaller side I had a great experience, from the attentive staff that made me feel welcomed to the massage and near-private hot tub/sauna/steam room and lovely pool area. It's adjacent to the regular hotel pool that you also have access to as well. If you get a service you can use the amenities all day with in and out privileges, such a nice relaxing day if you ask me. So while I'm limiting my review to the hotel and spa, the Viejas property has so much to do. The casino is a short walk from the hotel along with a variety of restaurants. The outlet mall is literally across the street and has a bingo hall and bowling and also had a seasonal skating rink. The golf course is also a drive down the road. In conclusion, I had a 5 star experience. I was sad to check out and I will be back for another stay!

As noted in other reviews the rooms are small- my husband and I are NOT small, we managed! The tall bed was comfortable and there was a helpful step placed in the closet so I did not have to resort to a high jump to get in. The bed was comfy. Breakfast was ok- I have a food allergy and staff had to scramble to accommodate it. I didn't think of it when we made the reservations, so that is on me. STAFF WAS AMAZING! Warm, friendly and filled with recommendations on where to eat ( dinner- and of course APPLE PIE!) We all agreed (we were traveling with others) that we would like to come and stay again. When you take into account the afternoon tea and a full breakfast, it's downright budget friendly!

My wife and I stayed in the Julian Gold Rush Hotel for two nights few weeks ago. Here are some pros…read moreand cons: Pros: Price, our room was $155 / night. That would probably pay for parking in San Diego hotels. This is a historic building and an interesting attraction in its own right. Breakfast is included and it was terrific. Food is expensive in Julian. A similar breakfast at a local restaurant would be $20. The staff are great. I met several day managers and the night security guy. They are all terrific people. It is really like staying in someone's home rather than a hotel. These is no TV. I think that belongs with the pros. The location is great. Right in the middle of town. Cons: Our room was tiny. Really tiny. Use the drawers and closets for your stuff so you don't trip over it. A side effect of the smallness of the room is that the heater/ac struggles to control the temperature . The design of any heater/ac unit presumes a room volume. The room is so tiny, the heater's built in control parameters are way off. Parking, parking is "street parking" and on a weekend, it's every man for himself. You may have to drag your bags a block or two. ---------------------- So would we stay there again? Absolutely. I would probably spend a bit more and get one of the small number of larger rooms, if available. If you want to relax and read, I cannot think of a better place. One thing I should mention, if you attempt to make reservations on line, there are half a dozen fake web sites imitating the hotel. They are put up by a dodgy travel company. They are really good imitations. I even an experienced computer user could be fooled. It is best just to call them.
