Because in the world of thrifting, this place harkens to the old style - jumble of items, packed, run by volunteers for the benefit of a charity. You know, treasure hunts. I love treasure hunts. I'm on my way to downtown Lansdowne one morning and I see a simple wooden A-frame sign: "Re-Purpose Shop". Oooh. Interesting name. Will it be like a Habitat store? Something else? I turn on the side street, then into the parking lot of the church it's housed in. Hm.. No more signs. Well, that door looks logical, so I go in...to an empty hall and kitchen area...but wait, beyond that, some light. Ah! They have two rooms, and have partitioned so one is clothes and the other is 'everything else'. The shelves are packed and there's stuff along the floor too. Roughly categorized, it was so much fun rooting through and finding some cool stuff. The volunteers are very cool, one has a small dog who greeted me with a welcoming sniff, wearing his little doggy Eagles sweater. Aw. Then I was not interesting and he went back to whatever he was doing. This is not a place run by professional organizations under the mask of 'thrift'. It's not neat and super shiny. It's a mad wonderful jumble, and for a treasure hunter it's an absolutely great place to be. They're only open a couple of days a week. I had cash, I don't remember if they take plastic. Benefits the church's programs which include their food pantry.

The small church basement thrift store expanded to another room for good reason. Tons of donations. The second room is stuff with tons of great bargains at a discounted price. The main room is filled with books, kitchen items, house items and a kids corner which is filled with toys and board games. The great prices along with the staff being super friendly is why this rating is a 4. Everytime I stop in I always find a great deal on something. Today it was a $1 under armour sweatshirt and $2 set of 8 pyrex bowls. I always stop in to see what new stuff has arrived and I'm never disappointed. Not many hours but that doesn't stop people. The place was packed. I'll definitely be back and if you're in the area you gotta check out the friendly staff and great prices.

I haven't been here in years, but since I was in the area, I figured 'Hey, why not?". The moment I entered the door, the older lady working the counter gave me a dirty look, including a once-over like she was better than me or something. Not cool. But, brushing it off, I decided I still wanted to visit their infamous "Dollar Room". I found a cute pair of white cutoff shorts with a dark blue nautical anchor pattern on them for one dollar! Of course, when I went up to the counter with the shorts, the lady tried to make nice with me by discussing what a great find they were, but I just smiled, paid, and left. The Dollar Room can be a great resource for costumes and even dress pants which may have a minor flaw. It's chock full of bric a brac and does stock some furniture. Inventory depends on donation flow and consigned items. Did spy some nice designer bags, ladies shoes and some very fashionable women's clothing upstairs. The children's clothing stock is OK and you might even pickup a nice toy or two. LOTS of children's books in stock upstairs. I always find needed household items and small appliances. You never know what you will stumble upon. I was glad I stopped by as I picked up a few picture frames, vintage clutch and a tin toy globe. All very cool!

My friend Ivy stopped by and was so excited. "you MUST go", and so I did. This is a fun little corner store, with a well curated mix of art, small housewares, handbags and then the real star, costume jewelry. Their collection is very good, lots of variety, pins, rings, necklaces, bracelets, rhinestones, metal, stones, and so on. It's a vintage jewelry lover's paradise. I speak with some authority as a bona fide lifelong lover of vintage costume jewelry. The owners are super nice, friendly but not overbearingly so. Prices are fair, this is not a thrift shop, so don't expect to see a cool pin for 50 cents. I picked up a gorgeous pheasant rhinestone and colored stone pin for $15 for example, and a lovely art glass vase for $50. Parking is alongside the building off Landover Road, easy to get in and out of. I may go broke here, but I will be a happy broke person.
