Huddersfield has lots of good curry houses but this is emerging as one of the most distinctive. A long refrigerated counter takes care of the take-away customers but it is in the immaculate diner that the interesting things take place. The business is run by Shahida and Shabir Awan who enjoy offering the sort of dishes they would eat in their own home. The shami kebabs, always freshly cooked to order, embody this domestic style and are the best for miles: soft in texture and with a wake-up kick of chilli. Main courses are also cooked while you wait and can include a stunning chicken and spinach curry with an undertow of methi. Dhal seems to change according to the day but it is always zingy with garlic. We've eaten here perhaps a dozen times and have yet to be disappointed.
