Then there are places that you go to of a night out for some scran because you just bloody love the place. Harun's is one such place. Despite recently painting the shop a rancid orange colour, Harun's remains the best takeaway in Southport for you to greedily stuff your mouth with greasy goodness in the early hours of the morning. The food there is well made and delicious albeit not particularly cheap (damn you Southport) and the staff there are friendly and will happily talk with you for hours about good Turkish footballers (believe me; it happens every week when we go). They also have a punching machine in there (perhaps to curb the violent enthusiasm of the Southport residents) which causes much hilarity at three in the morning when my mates decide to show each other who can hit something the hardest. Harun's je t'aime.

I began my morning by waking up at 9, after I was ready I stumbled across to Stricklandgate and waited a full 30 mins in the line to get in. Dead on 12 the door swung open to a "new paint" smell and to 3 members of staff eager to let us in. We all ran to be first in line but then stopped to admire the fine architecture from the tiled walls to the sandy oak wood floor, I felt welcome and the staff seemed to enjoy serving me too. Now... on to the food. I ordered the big tasty burger and I have to say it impressed me a lot, the bacon was crispy yet not over cooked, the lettuce had a distinct crunch which complemented the onions ever so well and the patty was so big I could not eat all of it and so I took some home for the dog. My one gripe with the food however was the fact that the fries lacked the crunch that I have became a custom to, but I think that may be because the oil in the fryer had been changed. I believe that McDonald's are leading the fast food industry into the future and this restaurant is one of the best I have seen so far

It is a Monday ritual for me and my colleagues to sit down and get this ordered every week. We have even started to go down through the menu until we have all tried everything (still a long way to go though). What I like about Yum Yums is that the main meals are split into 2 categories. You choose a 'Yummy' which is basically the bulk of your main, i.e. beef, chicken duck etc. Then a 'Yum' which is like the sauce, topped of with either a portion of boiled/fried rice, Chips, or Half/Half (half chips half rice). Delivery time is quick and the food is excellent. Give it a go and see what you think. The menu can be viewed online at http://www.yummyyums.co.uk/menu.php

I soon found out the reason the chicken fried rice was so expensive as the portion size was massive to say the least, I would recommend going here if you have a family or about 2-3 people to feed. But in general it's a nice take out option for Chinese food and it for sure beats any Chinese take out in the north west.

I've converted quite a few people into fans. I tend to use this place as a takeaway more than an eat in place as its not too far to go and it's cheaper to take it home and eat it. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is a very good standard, far better than most chinese takeaways I've been to but I think that's due to it being a restaurant too which pushes the standard higher. This is a popular place on a weekend so if you're eating in it's probably a good idea to book a table, if you can't get booked in then just order a takeaway. The only downside is they don't do delivery as they are very busy so you have to get it yourself.

However my dear old mum decided to take that recommendation & run with it... all the way to the phone to place a delivery order. My veggie udon noodles were some of the best I've tasted this side of the Atlantic. A great amount of food for the relatively low price. The spring rolls were looking a bit strange. They were the size of large steak fries. First time I've ever seen spring rolls so small. But they were tasty. My mum is not a person why likes exotic foods. She thinks parsley is as hot as a California Reaper. So she went with prawn toast, breaded king prawns and... chips All good but I won't go on another rant about who the hell orders chips from a Chinese place... my vein has just gone down & I don't have my blood pressure meds on me. Yep great place to order from.
