I was the only one in my class with Zero SQL experience and my instructor took care of me while not totally dragging the class down. I'll be back to TCC. I just wish the desks had a little more room. And hey! Free cokes, diet cokes, water and coffee!! Course: SQL Level 1 Instructor: Jeanette. She was great. She really knows her stuff. 5 stars for her. The Class: 5 students The Room: Small desks. I"m a pretty big guy but since there was only five of us, I had enough room. That said, if the room was full it would've been very cramped and too close for comfort. They do offer free coffee, coke, diet coke and bottled water though which was a nice bonus. The COMPARE with PACE: I've taken two classes at Pace University in Midtown (Bookkeeping and Quick Books). This was my first at TCC. Pace has cleaner and roomier facilities without a doubt. But for me, it ultimately comes down to the instructors. What did I learn? My TCC instructor, Jeanette, was excellent. Of my two instructors at Pace, one was on par with Jeanette, and was was below par with Jeanette. I learned a ton and Jeanette was great. The desks are tiny, though, and I would've been miserable if there had been a full room. Furthermore, the facilities in general are run down. Look, I'm not expecting the Ritz, but would a carpet cleaning and a fresh coat of paint hurt anyone?

The rooms are really small and uncomfortable, no place to hang your coats but they do have a small fridge that offers all types of sodas and water and a coffee machine. Three stars for the instructor and convenience to get to but the missing 2 stars for the size of the rooms and lack of comfort.

The material covered in the course was uncannily relevant to my business on a day to day basis. I could not speak highly enough of Garfield as an instructor. He effectively explained all material by walking us through each step and using helpful analogies for us to have a stronger understanding of when you would use each tool. As an online course he made sure everyone was engaged and was patient yet timely to reexplain something if people had questions. Garfield was kind enough to make himself available for me after the course as I was struggling with a challenging and important excel file I was working on. He let me share my screen with him and explain what I needed help with. His help with this file and the tools I gained from his instruction very likely are the reason I saved my job. Thank you NYIM and Garfield. If you are looking to increase your excel skills THIS is the company you should invest your time in.

Course content felt well thought out and organized--nice mix of working on mapped exercises to work on discrete skills with some room to work on any problems or concerns or thoughts you might have brought to class. The supplement files/exercises provided for post-class work are solid as well. I've received a greater amount of content from some places, but the files and materials here were much more workable and better-organized. Classrooms are not glamorous by any means, but they are acceptable. I took the class in early fall, and I would caution that the room was quite warm; somewhat uncomfortably so once it hit midday, even with the giant fan going. So dress lightly. But worth it for the VBA-ducation.

They were not wrong! I was fortunate enough to have Harvey Acosta for my written and CFC course. Harvey has a great skill of making topics you may not understand relatable to something you may know a lot about. Even though you wouldn't think those topics are relatable he finds a way to get through to every student. Harvey cares for his students and seems to always be available for his students needs. Harvey gives you the blueprint and it's up to you to put in the work. If you follow his plans you're over prepared for the test. For the practical course I had the Walt Disney / Johnny Carson of the practical exam world. Gary truly is the best in class when it comes to practical exam preparation. He can take a student with zero knowledge and help them understand the building systems in and out. He makes sure to engage every student during the class and holds them accountable. He invest his time to make sure you understand the systems, not how to take a test. If you put in the work and follow the program that Gary creates for you, you will be well prepared for the exam. Gary has been teaching this class for some time and his numbers speak for themselves. I would say his students have a 90-95 percent pass rate if the students put in the work. Please don't look anywhere else, other than the Turner School! It's well worth it!

Thanks to him, I walked into the exam confident and ready, and it paid off. For the practical portion, I had Gary. Gary is truly exceptional at teaching this class. By the end of the course, I had a clear understanding of how the systems work inside and out. Gary breaks everything down in a way that is easy to grasp, even for complete beginners like me. Practicing the turner simulator and participating in the course fully will absolutely prepare you for the FDNY exam. If you listen to Gary and you put in the effort, you will find the test easy-and you will be set up to pass with a high score.
