My dog usually gets really anxious going to the vet but ever since we switched to Dr. Augustine, he's no longer scared of his appointments. That gives me so much comfort. Augustine is very reasonable and I truly believe he has my dogs interest at heart and not his wallet. He takes his time for every appointment. The prices are reasonable here. Marble had gotten tooth extraction here and anal gland expressed.

My previous vet near my downtown condo had me looking to switch vets and I landed on Apple Creek. I've dealt with several of their vets here, most recently Dr. Augustine, and they've all been very helpful and listened to my concerns, and responded professionally and appropriately. I originally switched since they have more reasonable prices for feline dental. Unfortunately for one of my cats, her pre-dental bloodwork led the team to conclude that she likely had cancer. They worked tirelessly to get my cat an appt at the OVC in Guelph where they were able to treat her in the short-term and get the final diagnosis. A note that they stopped accepting new clients in December. This doesn't include new pets for pre-existing clients. The staff here speak English, Cantonese, and I believe Mandarin also.

They hung up on me while I was talking and were disrespectful. I told them that you are my son's doctor. You should know what this medicine was that you gave my son. I mean, I'm telling you, dear people, dear friends, whenever you take your dog there, check everything because these are not honest people and they don't know what they're doing. It was not the first cat that I unfortunately had to put down, but it was certainly the most traumatizing. The euthanasia was botched, which made my poor kitty scream in pain with injection before her death. I have two dog and I go to both and the Rutherford one is not a rip off!!!!Took my dog there yesterday! Nice to the face but on the phone! Another story and won't be back.. Asking some questions and getting a round about answer from the secretary. To a very simple yes or no question. Then to be told I'm being rude by the doctor. Who snatched the phone. If I wanted to be rude I would have walk In and made a scene! Getting a simple no sorry we can't do that would have been much better customer services ( return on a medicine that already had at home.). Instead, the reply and miscommunication was her saying the doctor said hold on to it, until the Christmas break is over. When I then asked, so you will take it back after the break or no? Not only me when I was waiting to pay for the over priced medicine it was the same for another customer who had called... think at the time dam I wonder what they did to be asked not to call but after today.. I don't think they did anything!! Truly speaking! I don't go out of my way to write reviews.. like at all! But I really felt the need to with this one.. simple just rude! Hey but that's rude apparently!

Hello all, I want to share our experience with Arnold Crescent Animal Hospital. We had taken our…read moredog in to see Dr. Dewey because of seizures he was having. Dr. Kevin Dewey gave us a consultation and did blood work that he suggested, a cost of ($420.00) The result after the blood came back did show low white blood cell platelets that he said was ok ,sent him home and said if it this happens more often bring him back. Our dog had another seizure about two weeks later, so we decided to have a second opinion. Another Doctor that we went to did the same blood work which came back with the same results as Dr. Dewey. This doctor reviewed Dr. Dewey's blood test as well and said there is something very wrong with your dog and we should do a parasite test. We of course agreed and said please go ahead, the blood test came back positive for parasites and now he is taking medication and showing great results of it working. He will be taking this medication for one month to get rid of the parasites. We asked Dr. Dewey why he didn't tell us that there was a problem that he saw and look further into it after the test showing the low white blood cell platelets at the same time it came back. He said that his machine may have not worked properly and this may be why the white blood platelets were low. He said he also looked under a microscope and thought everything was fine. When we returned and questioned him, asked why he didn't suggest doing another test at that moment after seeing something was not normal. His answer was because he didn't want to charge us more money to look further. I said this is not his job to make that decision without giving us the choice first. When asking questions further he looked like he was hiding his mistakes in medical terms about other things that could happen so it would not look like he made that wrong decision, instead of being accountable for the the decision he made. I want others to hear our experience with Dr. Dewey so they are aware with their pets with the experience we had.. Our pet means the world to us and am so glad we went to see another Doctor that saved our pets life.

I took my cat to Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham last weekend after noticing he seemed unwell. We waited for 3-4 hours to be seen (even though the waiting area was empty), which was frustrating, but we understood that it was an emergency clinic. When we were finally seen, we were quoted $4900 for two nights of treatment (enemas, stomach pumping with laxatives, and IV fluids) or $3600 for one night with the same treatment. We were told that our cat had a condition called mega colon, and that this treatment would help get things moving. We opted for the one-night stay. The vet did call us during the stay and said that they had taken an xray and things looked like they were improving. When we picked him up, he was in significantly worse condition than when we dropped him off. His rear end was covered in feces and had mucous hanging from his mouth and all down his chest. I believe the clinic should have made some attempt to help clean him up as we had a scheduled pick up time. There was no vet available at pick-up to tell us how our cat was doing. Considering the amount of money we had paid, you would think the vet could take a moment to let us know how the cat was doing. To make matters worse, they sent us home with two medications but no pain medication, even though it was clear that our cat was in extreme pain. They told us to take him to our regular vet for further care the following day At our regular vet, we were given two options: surgery (which was not guaranteed to resolve the problem permanently and it would likely return quickly again) or to put him down. We were told the impacted feces were too large to pass through the pelvis. We had two xrays at the emergency clinic and were never told this. We decided to put him down, as it was clear he was suffering. Our cat was only 11 years old, and it was a heartbreaking decision to make. What really frustrates us about this experience is that the emergency vet did not clearly communicate how critical his condition was. We were made to believe that the one night treatment would help him and that we were giving him a chance. The lack of transparency and care is something we will never forget. I want others to be aware of our experience and consider the level of communication and care they expect when trusting their pets to an emergency clinic. I wish this situation had been handled differently, and I am devastated by the loss of our cat.
