As it happens, the convenience store and the "98¢ store" are one and the same, and the SubWay is in the corner, like a kiosk in a food fair. I was kind of surprised at the prices. Yes, there's the usual dollar store stuff, and yes, much of that is actually priced at 98¢. (Or $1.98, or $2.98, or...) But some (not all) of the food on offer is actually cheaper than the same item at the Value Mart just across the street. (And some of the items on offer for 98¢ can cost up to $7.98 at The Bargain! Shop in Crystal Beach. So colour me pleasantly surprised. Unfortunately, the selection is still pretty slim. This place is just too small to offer the same variety that you're going to find in an actual supermarket, but if this location is representative of Avondale, then the high-priced convenience stores like 7-Eleven, Mac's, Circle-K, and so on are going to have a hard time competing in this market.

I noticed that agin today when I stopped in and saw the tech they have in this store. They have a wide variety of items and things you need in a pinch, and a little bit more. If you're not from the neighborhood, here's a tip: no one calls it Cameron's. As the giant neon signs on the side proclaim, we call it the "WE NEVER CLOSE." The store is basically a decent indie version of a7-11. It's a quick place to grab beer (they have a surprisingly decent selection) or a bag of chips. Everything is outrageously priced--but the convenience factor is HIGH. And, honestly, not giving your $ to 7-11 is pretty appealing--as is shopping in a store with handwritten signs and a colorful staff.

They have everything that you could need to grab quick on the go that you'd expect from a convenient store. Plus they offer a ton of lunch or breakfast options including, coffee & donuts, sandwiches, wraps, salads, and yogurt; packaged hot food and pizza, some frozen foods, and even a small deli counter if you want to put something together yourself. Lots of options here, plenty of bottled beverage choices as well. Walk here, take the train, or bring a friend to wait in the car while you run in. It's all paid parking around here; no dedicated lot.
