Restrooms are located throughout the park. There are also some covered picnic areas, but they aren't close enough to the play structures to keep a close eye on the children. I went here with my daughter and my seven-year-old grandson. It is called The Treehouse. It is…read morelocated at Plainfield Christian Church. It is at the children's center. Door 5 around back. There only open on Tuesdays and Thursdays 9 to 11 and 1 to 3. For children ages 2 to 12 years old. When entering you have to check in at the kiosk or the front desk. The place that looks like a large treehouse with two different floors, three slides, and plenty of things to do within the treehouse. The top level with the two big slides are for kids 5 and up Because you have to climb a ladder to get to the second level. There is an area for the kids under two to play with all kinds of toys. Lots of things for kids to play on and play with such as a kitchen with all the fixing grocery carts that seem to be the most popular area. Also, there was a book rack that you could sit down and read a book and comfortable chairs and couches with large Ottomans. Blocks and small basket ball hoop. There is also a kitchen so parents you can get you a cuppa coffee or water or hot chocolate and watch your kids play. They also have snacks for the little ones, there is a refrigerator. The bathroom is in the same area so no leaving the room.

I think they need some sort of safety gate to enter/exit so small kids cannot easily exit the play area if their adult chaperone is not as attentive.

This is a small little park on the outskirts of Speedway and Avon in Indianapolis. It is off of the…read moreroad a bit and located in a little duck off. There is a dirt parking area with more than ample space to park. The play area is on old wood chips and is completely fenced in and has a small kid area to the right, called the Tot Lot, that consists of a mock wooden Indy car and motorcycle, a bank of toddler/ADA swings, a sand pit, a small wooden jungle gym with slides, a bench and a picnic table. The other side of the play area is for bigger kids and consists of monkey rings, rock climbing walls, a huge wooden jungle gym with slides and a bridge, big tires, a mock wooden ship, a wooden suspended pebble bridge, a net bridge, a teetering floor, a tire swing, and a bank of ADA and traditional swings. You will also see an open space in the area in the front right. The playground equipment appears a bit aged and weathered, but is well maintained. The park also has a shelter behind it located outside of the fence with picnic tables under it and a grill outside of it. There is also a lone picnic table sitting right outside the front entrance of the play area. You will find the park across the street from the Central Indiana Girl Scouts Headquarters and next to Ben Davis High School's run-down baseball complex. I should also note that the playground is right down the street from the Indiana Women's prison (only separated by the baseball complex) and they are within sight of each other. I do not see that as being a major issue as the inmates are detained behind a fence and have other issues to worry about than a playground. I like this spot. This is a cute little playground, but not a destination spot by any means. It is a place that you hit if you live nearby or are in the area. I does not get a lot of traffic, which I believe is primarily due to its location. It is a nice playground though and your littles will like it a lot.

It is also home to the Avon HS Cross Country team. It the front they have a full basketball court that is pretty decent, a sand volleyball court, a gazebo, and 2 covered shelters that you can reserve. Each shelter has grills and picnic tables. There are also picnic tables scattered around the area, an open field that is well maintained, and a small lake. The lakes are rumored to be stocked, but I did not see anyone fishing. You will also find a very nice playground up there that has a jungle gym for small kids and one for bigger kids. The ground is covered with shredded tires. The playground also has a cargo net to climb, tire swings and regular swings. if you venture to the other part of the park in the back that is where you will find over 5 miles of paved trails, a splash pad, an outdoor fitness area, a reception hall, an small amphitheater, another lake with a fountain, 2 more covered shelters with picnic tables and grills, restroom facilities and another playground. The playground is very nice and is lined with a rubbery surface and has equipment including swings, monkey bars and other stuff that looked like it was purchased from Ikea. This is an awesome park and a great part of the Avon community. They have tons to do and can keep an entire family busy for hours. This place is very scenic and has some picturesque bridges and landscape. It is also home to the historic 1876 Whipple Iron Truss.

I finally stopped by Helen Pecar Park this past weekend on my way through Hendricks County to my…read moreparents' home. Pecar Park & Nature Center is a fairly new Avon Park that is a unique balance of primitive meets contemporary. The park has its own naturalist and the nature center offers turtles, tortoises, bearded dragons, and other animals. There's an amphitheater that is primarily used as an outdoor education space. The Nature Center can be rented by the hour or by the day (only between the hours of 10am-9pm). Pecar Park offers 9 primitive campsites, though there is an indoor bathroom and shower to make everything a little less primitive. Rental of a campsite is $15 for township residents, $25 for non-residents. The park also offers a playground, community fire pit, pod, greenspace, GLOW lab, and geocachers should know geocaching is available at this park (and encouraged). Pecar Park still feels like a work in progress. It's one of those parks that's always a dilemma for me - technically, it's accessible. Yet, it's really not. The way Yelp's accessibility questions are phrased, technically this park meets them. However, this park tends to be a place where it's best to have a companion with you, especially if you have mobility issues, as there are places where paths are a bit more rustic and even the playground is a bit more natural in setting. Pecar Park is off the main drag in Hendricks County and seems to be a still underutilized park. It seems to be more about natural activities than just "fun." There's also a bird aviary and a low ropes challenge. Again, this feels like a work in progress but a cool work in progress. It seems like this park has grown a bit since its 2019 opening, however, it remains one of Avon, Indiana's more underrated gems. While accessibility is definitely a bit of an issue here, with a little assistance it's likely one can really appreciate this more natural and relaxed setting. As near as I could tell, the nature center itself was solid in terms of accessibility. I got everywhere I wanted to go here - it just took a little effort.

This is a great park that lies just north of downtown Plainfield. The park has been maintained…read morewell and has just about everything you could want from a park. The playground is enormous! There is a section for toddlers (under 5) and another for kids (5-12) but they are right next to each other so that parents can keep an eye on both sides of the area. So much equipment that kids should have a blast trying out each one. Benches and picnic tables can be found all around the playground square, so you can select sunny or shaded relaxation. Oh, and the picnic tables are designed so that a wheel chair can roll under on one end so that guests don't have to worry about climbing over a bench seat. The paths are paved and there is a permanent shelter (with a fire place!) as well as two more canopy type shelters with picnic tables. The grill for the permanent shelter is oversized, so that could make it easier for a grill master. There are sports and activities available too. Tennis, baseball, and horse shoes all have their designated areas. A permanent restroom building lies between the playground area and the ball fields. Another perk is the parking lots are large and paved. For those who like hiking, trails run by the park that are part of the extensive Plainfield system. Sure, there isn't a pool or splash park, but with so much else to do and so much shade, I don't think kids will miss them. Review #606

If you love lots of shade while watching the kids play then you'll enjoy Franklin Park. Named for Charles "Sap" Franklin, the town's first marshal, the park encompasses 35 acres, and like Friendship and Hummel Park, is located along White Lick Creek. This is our 4 year old nieces' favorite park and always want to play here regardless of the weather. This is a great park for family reunions with so many amenities for all ages. Amenities in the park are two shelter houses, 2 lighted tennis courts, a skateboard area, 4 lighted ball diamonds, 2 concession stands, playground and a private play area for little ones under six with a volleyball pit and several horseshoe pits. Easy access to White Lick Creek Trail or Vandalia Rail Trail and the clean restroom at Franklin Park are convenient to trail and water fountains outside restrooms. Plainfield's youth league baseball programs are played on the ball diamonds so stop by and catch a game. Just follow the sounds of the crowd cheering and choose your team.

The equipment is not the newest, but it is well maintained There is a small jungle gym (for younger kids) with a small rock climbing wall and slide. Also in that area you will find a a carriage shaped monkey bar, a merry go round, two banks of traditional swings and some rocking vehicles and animals. Right next to that area is a bigger jungles gym for older kids (it did not intimidate my 2 year old though). It has a barn yard them and has a bunch of slides and bridges and stairs. In that area you will also find a maze, sit and spins, a bank of traditional settings and rocking animals. The shelter, which can be rented, is right by the larger kid play area and has picnic tables under it and a grill right outside of it. The shelter also has a wood over inside of it. It is a very nice shelter. There are 8 very nice pickle ball courts here. Four on each side, divided by a semi-covered sitting/waiting/spectating area. The courts were very busy. The park is home to 4 lighted baseball fields. The fields are very nice and they were having some little league girls games going on while I was there. Good luck finding a parking spot when they have baseball or softball going on. There were a good amount of spots near the playground area though. Even though they are not officially part of the park, there a some tennis courts, that belong to Plainfield Community Middle School, which borders the backside of the park. They were open while I was there and are pretty well maintained. This park has pockets of green space that can be used to toss a ball, have a picnic, run around, or have a football/soccer game. And as an added bonus, even though the park does not have a designated trail, it does have some pretty good paved paths that can be put together to get a decent walk or run in. This is not your newest park, but it is a very good traditional park with a lot of amenities. It is a solid park that the little ones will enjoy for hours.
