Had a great experience here, and wanted to make a post because it looks like they need some good reviews. I reserved my car online a few weeks in advance on Hotwire, and when I showed up my reservation was on file and check-out was quick and easy. The service was friendly and efficient, and I drove away in a brand new Hyundai Elantra with less than 1,000 miles on it. Especially now, with car rental prices surging and inventory almost impossible to find -- I was grateful for the good service and reasonable daily rate. I'd leave 0 stars if I could. Xena is awful. I was moving from Chico back to LA, I flew in and my flight was delayed throwing off my entire time table, and being completely out of my control. I called and spoke to Xena and she insisted she could do nothing to help me. My scheduled pick up time was before 5 p.m. and I arrived at 5:04. She refused to leave the keys or even wait a few minutes after I explained that was my ride home to Chico. When I got there she was helping somebody else, and still refused even though she was inside the building. She literally left me on the steps with no way home because she refused to help. Apparently the "manager was off". I tried to rent a car for business. I am visiting from out of town so I already had a avis car rented from the airport. It was 15 minutes before the office closing. After 10 minutes of calls to the owners, they insisted that I present a work id, which was at home. I showed them my company phone and company apps with the company name and my name. She refused and stated only a company badge would do. I asked the counter attendant to wait 10 minutes while I went home and retrieved my id but she refused and said she had to close on time (I was only asking her for 5 minutes). I will never rent from this location again and my family regularly rents cars for weeks at a time. Your loss. Very poor customer service. read more

BEWARE!! Your experience here depends on the mood of whichever employee happens to be helping you. We had a great experience on pick up with the manager. We had paid for a standard SUV, and all they had were compact SUVs, which weren't large enough. They were able to give us a mini van instead. On drop off, the lady (different person) was absolutely insane. She told my husband he had to clean out the rental car (vacuum!!) himself, or they'd charge us a $450 cleaning fee!! We have rented many, many cars over the years, and I have NEVER had to vacuum out my own rental car. She said it was excessively dirty because there was a little bit of dry sand from our beach trip. She told us they have to send the car to a different location to be cleaned, but there was a man in the back cleaning other cars out who said he cleans them out. Super dishonest and shady. My husband showed her the rental contract, and notice on the car listing anything that qualified; smoke, pet hair. She didn't care. I had to drive home pregnant with our two kids, get our vacuum, drive back with 6 minutes to spare before the half hour grace period where she said she'd charge us another day. I'll also note, when we picked up the car, it didn't even look like it had been cleaned well. I encourage you to think many times before using this place. I've rented from this place twice. Both times the ladies over the counter were very nice and friendly. It's they were very busy but they were doing their best. Only thing tho, is that both times, the gas wasn't at where they said it was. It was less than what they told me. You only need to fill up where the gas is when you rented but they also tell you that the car needs to be retuned with full tank. So make sure you check the amount of the gas when you get the car and make sure that's what it says in your contract. read more

Seeing the reviews of this place, I guess I am not alone in rating them low. If I could give a negative value I would. I reserved a car through the Uber app for a pickup on Wednesday, August 9th. I received an email from AVIS confirming the reservation. In the email, I changed the date to the 10th of August just one day later. I paid online. The sum came to $631. I picked up the car this morning (the 10th) and drove it home. I contacted Uber to give them the car info and they said there was a problem and to go back to AVIS and have them send the info. I went back to AVIS and explained the problem. I was told that the car was not able to be used with uber. I tried to explain that there was some type of mix up with the website, because I reserved through Uber. They basically told me tough sh*t, no refunds. I returned the car at this point. 600 bucks and drove it for an entire hour and a half on a 7 day rental...home and back. They would not entertain the idea of refunding the money and letting me rent an Uber car, which the original reservation was for. Nope. Going around and around for about 5-10 minutes with them, I gave up and decided to call their corporate office. Which I did when I got home. My money will be refunded, and I reserved a different car at a different dealer which I will pick up tomorrow. I wonder how many other customers they have raped in the past. I don't ever wish ill will on anyone or anything, but if this AVIS Branch went bankrupt or was fined for improper business practices, I would not shed a tear. Congrats to AVIS! Stellar!!! read more

Life has been giving me a lot of challenges lately. I had some issues with Hertz overcharging me $545.00 and leaving my debit card overdrawn. And had to find out the hard way when I traveled 3 hours away to Sacramento on the train to pick up my Uber/Avis rental. My Uber/Hertz rental had been towed from my new apartment complex after I accidentally parked in the stall next to my assigned stall. I did not have a copy of my lease. I lost over $3,500 not being able to drive for Uber because Hertz left it in the tow an extra 4 days, and would not answer any of my messages for 3 weeks. I had purchased insurance, which should have covered the tow, however, they charged me as if I had not purchased insurance. So I had to take another 3-hour train ride home with no rental. The next week I came back and the train was late picking me up. I had preordered an Uber 10 minutes before my train was to arrive in Sac, and the Uber was also late too. Avis closes at 3:00, the train got me there at 2:30 but was supposed to have me in Sac by 2:00. The Uber picked me up at 2:40 instead of 2:30. And the Avis location was 17 minutes away. You can imagine the knots that I had in my stomach. I made it to Avis 5 minutes before they were closing. The front desk associate (Starr) was helping another customer. By the time she was finished, it was well past 3:00. When she went to swipe my new debit card, it said the funds were not available. I felt completely helpless. Like why was life-giving me such a hard time. In my many experiences with employees from this generation, they would have told me that they were sorry, but my card is not working and that I would have to come back the next day with a card that works. Or even communicated it like a robot, as most millennials do. I am 50 years old, and I tell you there seems to be no more work ethic. Star proved to me that there are still a few good ones left. She was so kind and patient, she allowed me to call my bank. They informed me that since I was a brand new customer that was a security feature to avoid fraudulent transactions. They immediately released the funds. By this time it was around 3:40 and she could have been off work. As if Starr had not already done enough, she walks me through the steps to ensure that the rental was registered on my profile via Uber Driver app. She put me in the most beautiful car, and I drove off the lot with my eyes watery feeling at ease that I can now go back to making an income and no longer have to be in fear that I might not be able to pay my rent and bills; and I can now be stress-free. I will forever be grateful to this amazing person who represents Avis in the most awesome way. From my heart, I thank you Starr. read more

We paid in advance and received an email telling us we were preferred members, so we could 'skip the line'. Went downstairs and the line was really long with only 1 employee. Waited about 20 minutes. Despite having the email with our pickup instructions. We were told we had to go back upstairs and wait. Of course the line was even worse? 2 budget staff members handling both budget and Avis. There was a man behind us in the preferred line. And the same thing happened to him. Wr are both in the league by line. Neither of us are happy. We arrived here at 645, it is now 710 and we still are waiting in line. The Alamo and enterprise counters are flying through their rentals. At 725 we were sent back downstairs to wait in the same line we were in originally. And then to make it even more difficult the car that we paid for, Toyota cameryis no longer available. I stood I stood in line the next day to return it since I got charged another day. I walk in there is 15 people ahead of me and 1 person working. The lady working is in a relationship with the man and he does not help at all. He is laughing at me because he knows in 10 minutes I will be charged again even though I been in line an hr waiting. This company is renting out vehicles that are unsafe to drive. BEWARE!!! I want to give zero stars. I rented a AWD vehicle with Avis on 2/5/2021 for a road trip with my young daughters to drive up to Washington. The guy helping me pulled the car around and it was a dirty 2019 Dodge Journey with a lot of dings and scratches and chips in the windshield. We did a walk around and I was pointing out the damage to the vehicle so I wouldn't be charged. It took a while and he was rushing me. The car was dirty inside and reeked of Marijuana so bad. I was in a hurry and had a screaming toddler with me, so I took the vehicle and decided to overlook the dirt. So we left on our trip and stopped over night in Oregon. The next morning the low tire pressure warning light was on for the drivers side front tire. So I filled up the tire and we kept driving. We had to fill the tire several more times to get to our destination. Also halfway through the trip the key fob stopped working. When we got to our destination my friend advised me that the tires on the vehicle were bald. I wasn't aware if that. Which is dangerous and we were lucky one of our tires didn't blow. I assumed a car rental company would rent vehicles that are safe for the road. I called Avis customer service and asked if I could trade the vehicle in and get a new safer car. The representative told me that they would charge me $500 to do so. So, I thought I was stuck with this car. I called again a couple days later hoping to get a different answer and the rep told me I could take the vehicle to trade it in at a nearby Avis for no charge. He said he didn't know why the representative told me $500. But I had to call around and find a car. I called 5 other local Avis branches and none of them had cars available. So I called back and spoke to 2 other reps. One told me I was screwed the other transferred me to roadside assistance. They said the would send someone to tow the vehicle I had and get me an Uber to take me to the airport to get another car. But luckily one of the local places called me back and said they had a vehicle. But I had to fill the tire up in the vehicle I had and drive in the snow (on bald tires) to drop off the old vehicle and pick the new one up. So I cancelled roadside assistance and drove to get the new vehicle locally. (BTW, just got a letter saying I am being charged $220 for roadside assistance that was never rendered, but that's another story) So I get the new vehicle (a new Toyota 4runner) drive back to California, drop the vehicle off and explained to the manager Starr what happened and how this has been a nightmare and she shrugged her shoulders and said "You should have called customer service." Ummmm, I did. Several times. Was she listening to anything I was saying?? Then she said "you should've called roadside assistance" Well, none of the reps gave me that option until I was 5 days into the rental. I also tried to call her branch, but was put on hold and nobody ever returned. But to make it right, she offered me a whopping $25 off for my week long epic troubles. This company is terrible. I just traveled 2 hours to check out a car they have for sale. When I arrive the two workers didn't want to stop their conversation to help me as if I am a disturbance. They then tell me I cannot see the car what so ever and that I would have to book an appointment and no matter what would not be able to check out the car today. They did not give me a phone number or any type of direction on how to book an appointment. I then called the Avis car sale phone number and I was on hold for 30 mins until my phone died. Do not rent from here! I am a preferred Avis member and this place by far has the WORST service. Although we had reservations and showed up on time they had already given away our car. They upgraded us from a full size to a small suv that we were happy for at the time. We needed an extra car for family visiting from out of town. Within a few hours the tire pressure light came on and we contacted customer service and they told us to just add air. We had to do this at least 6 times just to get home safely. By the next morning the tire was completely flat and we had to call the branch and order to have the car towed. They promised a refund to which we never received. Fast forward 9 days we go up to the branch to inquire about our missing refund and the "manager" said the rental reservation was not closed, so she had to follow up with the tow company (should have been done a long time ago) then they told us because we drove the car and didn't return it full they were denying our refund. Are you serious? You had to have a tow company pick it up.. how could we full the gas tank? They rented a car that had a slow leaking tire and tried to charge us more for them being incompetent. Employees obviously hate their job, most likely due to being under staffed, under resourced, and under trained. And they take that hate out on their customers. After waiting in line for 30+ minutes I was flatly refused service due to employee "not being paid enough to deal with people like me", even though I had literally only said hi, I have a reservation, what do we need to do to get this all set. Employee literally walked away and made me wait back in line till another rep could help me. When I was finally hellped again, I had to start entire rental over again, taking another 20+ minutes... And all of this doesn't even get into the horrid parking lot they have that is 4x too small, ensuring you will be stuck due to being boxed in when you try to leave for another 15-20 minutes.... I live in the area, and this facility is conveniently located; therefore, I force myself to put up with the terrible customer service here. I am an AVIS Preferred member and regularly rent cars as I travel for work. This place has to be the worst Avis location I have ever been to, and that is saying a lot, as car rental places are not known for their exemplary customer service. However, this place takes it to the next level of horrendous. They are curt, unaccommodating, lacking a customer-centric approach, and your Avis Preferred status means nothing to them. For example, I have never received an upgrade, a benefit offered to Avis Preferred members, and 9 out of 10 times I get the upgrade. Not here; instead, they try to upsell. The layout of the facility is not great, and they have done nothing to direct customers returning cars to a safe and appropriate location. Even for Avis, it is surprising they keep this franchise open given the feedback here and on Google. read more

Upon arriving just a few minutes late (20 minutes before closing time), I noticed there were 2 individuals working at the counter. One man was helping the ONLY customer there. The other person (woman) simply spent time looking at me & my daughter for several minutes. Not a "hello", no sign at all that we'd entered the establishment. No acknowledgment of our presence from either one. Even a simple "We'll be with you shortly," would have sufficed. FINALLY, the guy speaks up, but doesn't greet us with a "Hello"...he instead asks, "What do you need?" REALLY??!!!!! At this point, we should have gotten the point and headed for the door. But we were headed out of town and pressed for time. We tell him that we're there to pick-up our reserved car. He says, "You're LATE and they no longer have your car. No apology. I asked him if he had anything else, so he pretends to look over the lot. And says, "No!' Judging from comments, our rental had most likely been given away hours ago. That's the extent of the conversation....they say nothing else, just watch us as we walk out the door. There were many cars on the lot, and even though they were about to close, they would not accommodate us. NEVER AGAIN WILL I PATRONIZE THIS LOCATION. THEY'RE ON SOME BS! My experience is and was very poor. I rented a vehicle with Avis on July 12, 2023. The first vehicle I picked up reeked of cigarette smoke, so I requested a different car to which they did accommodate. While in this vehicle, I was driving on the freeway and a large truck kicked up a rock and chipped the windshield. Didn't think to much of it, figured they would be able to get it repaired and send me the bill. Well they did and they couldn't just repair, they had to replace the entire windshield which came to a grand total of $1,156.53. As soon as I received their correspondence I reached out immediately to get this matter resolved. When I initially called in the gentleman I spoke with assured me that my claim could be resolved by my insurance company Liberty Mutual, and if I didn't want to go through them he could reduce the amount owed by 20% (Seems Scammy but ok). I opted to have my insurance company resolve it and filed my claim. The claim was approved almost immediately within 48 hours, to which Liberty sent an email to request how they would like to proceed with accepting payment. AVIS did not respond to their email, so I emailed AVIS directly 2 times, to which I did not receive any response. Fast forward to today, and come to find out my credit card was charged the entire amount, and they are unwilling to refund, reverse, or help me in the customer service department. The claims department they've forwarded to me is stating over an hour wait to speak with someone, and if I would like to speak with the supervisors, supervisor, it will take 24 to 48 hours. The experience I received is unacceptable, and I will be leaving my review in across numerous websites, and travel agencies IE (Expedia, Travelocity, ETC.). read more

The staff was friendly enough and the vehicle worked fine. However, they had one person working on a busy weekend that caused long delays. He is also someone who does not work there often and is inadequately trained. When I finally did get to the counter, the gentleman explained that I needed to return the vehicle with the tank full. Standard stuff. When I returned the vehicle with the tank full, as instructed, the woman at the counter explained that I would be charged $14 because I did not have a gas receipt. A gas receipt I was never instructed to obtain. I would advise caution before using this place - everyone is friendly, but you may encounter someone who does not know or clearly articulate the policies and get stuck with an extra charge. When I booked my car they told me to bring my debit card and that they do not do credit checks and I didnt need a credit card. When I got there I gave them my card and they did a credit check on me and told me they will not rent to me. I had the money ready to go and had to leave the next day. When I came in to pick up my rental, there was a woman in the back. She saw me, but offered no "be right with you" or even so much as a greeting. Eventually another woman came to help me. This second woman told me the car needed to be filled with gas and washed but the only person who could do that was out and wouldn't be back for 20mins. I waited. While I waited I witnessed the first woman and a customer get into a heated argument about the level of gas in a rental. I'm assuming she was the manager, which shocked me, as she was yelling at the customer. I understand being frustrated, but really? Customer service, much? Overall, it took a little over an hour to get my rental. This was my first time using Avis, and I'll never come here again. read more

Complete disaster. We filled the rental car with gas before returning but could not get the gauge needle to the Full mark, even after we topped it off. We explained to the staff but they told us we would have to pay a $9 gas charge. We protested, showed them the gas receipt, so one of the staff decided the solution was for us to drive him to a filling station, which we did. Once there, he showed how if we slowed the gas to a trickle, we could get more in. We had rented the car for the week but were returning it after five days. Mieka at the front desk had told us we could return early with no extra charge. However, when she ran the paperwork the computer assessed a charge for early return. We reminded her of her representation that we could return early, and she said since we had driven the car off the lot at 2:30 pm, we could only escape the early return charge if we returned it after 2:30 that day, something she had not told us. She apologized but said she could not override the computer. It was 1:40 pm, they had already parked the car in back so we told her to wait until 2:30 and check the car in. She agreed while telling us we would be responsible if anything happened to the car before 2:30. This dealership is a few miles from our home. It ended up taking us about an hour to get the car returned. The customer at the other end of the counter while we were there also left the office visibly angry. Avis is off our list. read more
