We booked a car from Avis for the weekend so my extremely pregnant wife and I could pick up some needed baby supplies. When we arrived to collect the car there was a huge line of people, all with reservations, and Avis had no cars for any of us. We were obviously annoyed, but some employee assured us this was an anomaly due to a computer glitch, would never happen again, etc. etc. The employee working the counter assured me that in the years he worked there this had only happened twice. He personally rebooked me for the following weekend for the car we needed, and promised me that the car would be there. It was annoying and disruptive to our plans but we thought, well these things happen.
We went back the next weekend and... again they had run out of cars! I was told with a shrug there was nothing they could do for me and sent home, as were a number of other customers who had pre-booked cars and were waiting to pick them up. The employee who had promised me the car would be there wasn't around, and the man behind the counter made no effort whatsoever to help us out.
What's the point of having a booking system if you're not going to reserve the cars for the people who booked them? Maybe the cars are very nice once you get inside them, but thanks to the clowns at Avis I'll never know. I would not book with them again, and I would advise anyone traveling to Oxford to book with any other company. read more
