Staff was friendly and nice and the car rental process went by very smoothly. Although I think that was because the staff didn't really give extra information that other rentals would have said. We booked a specific car but when it came to, the keys given were for a completely different car. Even though the car we booked was in the parking lot. I would understand if it wasn't there anymore. But at least it had the minimum amount of seats we were looking for. Thankfully the car/SUV was still good to drive and such. I also noticed before we went on a long drive that the gas tank was low so we had to get gas first. Shouldn't car rentals already have the gas tank full? It seems the car also doesn't get inspected well because before we left the car to drop it off, we saw a dirty skirt stuffed next to the backseat and a random metal shoe horn!! As such, we also weren't even instructed on returning the car with a full tank of gas so we didn't. For each little issue, I remove a star. You could tell it's not cleaned fully or wiped even when you get in the car. The touch screen had so many fingerprints on it. At least there's little debris on the carpet so it seems to have been vacuumed. read more

The lady in the office was polite, but the system is bad. I rented a car for 1 day and app 2 hrs. after renting it, the car broke down in the middle of the street. The office was closed so I got the main office. They were not very helpful. I made several calls, one of the representatives was actually rude. The car eventually started but broke down an additional 5 times. It took Avis 6 hrs. to send someone to tow the car. The engine light was on, and I had not noticed that when I picked up the car. The dirtiest, run down rental cars... They did not have the option I reserved and the check engine light was on in the one they gave me. And on top of this they magically didn't except an Amex even thought it was stated on the website that all major credit cards were excepted. I would not rent from this location again or suggest it. Prices are very reasonable in comparison to enterprise which is a little further down sunrise highway. It says they open at 12pm I highly advise you get here before 11:30 by the time I got here there was 5 ppl ahead of me and I got here at 11:55. This review is for Budget rent a car at this shared location (Sunrise Hwy, Lynbrook, NY.) The office area is extremely shabby and bare with "staff" that are not pleasant or helpful at all. I rented a car from Budget on 5/11/21. When they brought the car to me it was filthy on the outside. I questioned why it was in that condition and was told that it was a corporate car and corporate was supposed to send people to clean them but there was a delay due to the pandemic. I discovered the car was also filthy on the inside when I cleaned it with Lysol wipes (ie: steering wheel, door handles, etc.) In addition to the filth, the car had a very strong odor of marijuana / cigarette smoke. If I didn't absolutely need the transportation, I would have returned the car. I will never again rent from Budget and would advise others to not do so, and definitely not from the Lynbrook, NY location. read more

So shameful. I should've known better than to have made a reservation without checking Yelp... Please avoid this location at all costs. As soon as I entered I could feel this wasn't going to end good. Terrible customer service. You walk in and they're just staring at you, no greeting or no welcome. The guy there that was so sloppily dressed, just got up and left while working on my reservation. The lady starts over on another computer and I tried to tell her that the guy already swiped my card and she tells me no... Like. I. Didn't. Just. Stand. There. And. Watch. Him. Do. It. I found that weird because what if I just got charged for that car twice?? Later on during a call with customer service trying to book something else at a different location, I found out Avis is only allowed to swipe your card once before its placed on a 24 hour block. So even after I left lynbrook, the damage was already done. Here's where my biggest issue lies. I've rented from Avis at JFK and they authorized the amount of the rental-FINE At this location, I prepaid and was only expecting to show my card and go(Avis preferred). But instead I was told that in addition to the cost of the rental, I need to have an extra $200 authorized. And no one could explain why. This was the WORST rental experience I've ever had. I am not the type of person to complain but I feel compelled to tell people about the experience I just had today at Budget rental on Sunrise Hwy in Lynbrook, NY. My wife, my sister and I just had the absolute worst customer service experience while trying to rent a car for one day. It all started with my 7am flight from MIA to JFK with Delta being delayed 3 1/2 hours. Due to that delay we did not make it in time to pick up our original car rental which we booked with Enterprise because the location closed at 1pm. After trying numerous locations and companies we discovered the only nearby car rental that was open was Budget on Sunrise hwy. My sister called to confirm they were open and then ask if they had cars available. The agent on the phone advised that they only had SUVs at a charge of $100 per day. We found this hard to believe because as my sister was on the phone with the agent I was reserving a compact vehicle online for $40 at the same location, which I did and got a reservation number. When we arrived at the location we gave the agent our reservation number. He then said "weren't you the people that called", we said yes and he then said "I already told you I don't have cars. Why would you make a reservation if I told you I didn't have cars". He was very obnoxious and rude. We then asked him, why would the reservation process if he didn't have cars? He was very adamant and as he continued to rant how he did not have cars. We then asked if he could honored the price of the reservation and give us an SUV and he very clearly, almost yelling said NO. We were all shocked at how unprofessional and rude this man was to us. We asked for his name, at first he hesitated but he then said Troy, which we highly doubt. So far this experience felt like a "bait and switch" scam. Book a certain car online and then when you arrive they tell you they don't have cars and push the more expensive SUVs onto their customers. When then left the location but we reach out to Expedia regarding our experience. The Expedia agent heard our concerns and advise us that he called the Budget location and changed our reservation from a compact car to a intermediate for just $6 more. We asked the Expedia agent to please verify that they have a car because the Budget agent told us he didn't have cars. The Expedia agent verified that they did have a car for us. We returned the location and once we walked in the agent "Troy" said "I'm not renting a car to you". As you can imagine we were dumb founded. We told him that Expedia confirmed that they have a car for us. He told us that he does not have to rent to us. We then told him that this is horrible customer service and asked if Budget knew he treated his customers like this. He then said that they are "independently owned" and that he does not have to answer to Budget or Expedia. We were in disbelief as we left the location for a second time without a car. To make matters worse "Troy" followed us outside taunting us as we got into our car and drove away. I only hope this has not happened to anyone else and I'm writing this so that no one ever has to go through what we went through today. I only hope that Troy is the exception and Not the standard of the type of people employed by Budget. I cannot believe all of the horrible reviews that this location and Troy have received both in Yelp and Google, yet Budget still chooses to do business with these people. I will tell my story to anyone that will listen and will make it my mission in life to make sure no one rents from Budget. read more

I've rented multiple vehicles and never had an issue... the guy that works there is usually solo and super busy but always kind and accommodating! We have been using Avis for over 20 years. This particular location is the worst Avis we have ever dealt with. It started by the front glass door being smashed by an unhappy customer. We rented a one way rental and it was the last car on the lot. They had 4 other reservations that day with no vehicles to provide the customers. They requested an additional $100 deposit and wrote down the wrong mileage. When we returned it, it was 400 miles more than the actual miles we drove. We had to fight to prove we only drove it from A to B to have Avis remove the overcharges. We were also told by Avis, this one is a franchise with a terrible reputation. Can I say that this is the hell of a location of Avis/Budget Rent A Car? I am literally comparing it to hell. I had a pre-paid reservation for 12 PM and wanted to pick it up a bit early because my flights got screwed up. I was told this was impossible, since I have already prepaid for the car. I had to wait almost 4 hours for my car (that was already available for pick up). When I finally was at the check out counter, the clerk asked me what the last four digits of my credit card used for the reservation was. I have at least 10 different cards, so I gave her my best guess. She replied that this was not the card and asked to try again. I gave it another shot. At that point she said that the card I gave her was incorrect as well and that my reservation got canceled. I got NO WARNING that I had only two tries, otherwise I would just look it up on my phone. I had to call customer service to clarify that the reservation was not canceled, and the clerk was incorrect by even stating that. I literally lost it then. I said that this was the worst experience I have had. And the clerk's reply? "We didn't do anything wrong, it's your fault you came early." What? Even if the customer comes early, a good company tries their best to accommodate. Isn't that part of good customer service? The car was so dirty on the outside that I had to wash the windshield to see well. Inside it was vacuumed as I walked out to pick the car up. I later was sent a survey and contacted by someone by the name of Mark Smith: "Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience. We appreciate your feedback since it helps us improve our service and your rental experience. You indicated in your response about flexible drop off and pick up unfortunetly the system does not allow flexibility and if we did we would not have cars back in time for the next renter. Please accept my sincere apologies for the inconvenience you have experienced. You are a valued customer; everything we do is aimed at providing you with an excellent car rental experience. We would like to regain your trust and hope to serve you again in the future. Sincerely, MARK SMITH Budget, MARK.SMITH@avisbudget.com" I replied: "I understand the concept of not allowing flexibility. If the car is just sitting in the lot, while I waste my vacation time sitting in the waiting room waiting for my time to come to pick up the car, it becomes a nuisance. Making accommodations and exceptions to the rule or at least making sure your staff did their best to explore other options is the key to customer service. At the end when I finally picked up the car, I was told by the staff member that it was my fault that I came early and that Budget did nothing wrong. This Place doesn't even deserve a 1 Star Rating . The absolute worst rental experience ever hands down. While attempting to make a reservation online with budget, the pre-paid price promised to us over the phone was denied to us in person even though the charge was already pushed through on the credit card. Not only did we have to call budget customer service but also the bank just to get the charges reversed. After the extended ordeal and back and forth conversation budget then had the audacity to say the rate was no longer a little over 250$ but over 300$ instead. We were also promised no issues with adding an additional driver but the extremely disrespectful clerk made it abundantly clear that no extra work nor effort would be put into making any adjustments to our reservation. To top it off he told us he had no cars available even though there were two different mid sized cars outside. Apparently he just didn't want to clean the cars in preparation for them to be rented. After about an hour or two of back and forth phone calls and being told no cars available, a vehicle came back from the mechanic ready to be rented. You wouldn't believe the madness that happened next. Not only was the car given to someone who came in after us, but when frustration had reached it's peak some kind soul offered to pay our entire reservation to assist in making amends to our already horrible experience. The clerk refused to redo the reservation on top of continuously swiping the credit card claiming it to not have the funds. If you recall I mentioned speaking with the bank earlier in the post, so how would the card not have the funds? The entire reservation was told to us that it was going to be canceled due to him not being able to swipe the card a third time and insisting that the funds were not on the card. When given the option of redoing the entire reservation under another name, he attempted a third time and it magically approved. On to the next issue, since no cars were available and the trouble we were put through , a curtesy upgrade to an SUV was promised. Not an upgrade by any means. The vehicle was dirty, trash in the doors and center piece. We drive off only to find out the alignment of the car was so far off that in order to drive straight you had to keep the steering wheel at the same angle as if you were making a sharp left turn. The location closed right after renting to us so we attempted to do a vehicle swap at another location. We were told that they don't swap cars from different locations and we would have to pay roadside assistance and towing fees and then might not guaranteed to have a replacement vehicle. Our best option was to keep the vehicle until the location in Lynbrook opened up. The next day we performed the vehicle swap with no issues. We were given a decent vehicle so we weren't upset. Things go from bad to worse. To start it off the car was supposed to be returned on Wednesday but the car was used to drop off someone back to Army training in VA. The trip back took longer than expected so the car wouldn't be returned till the next day. A vicious snow storm hit the NYC area and the car was snowed in for the next two days. On Thursday budget was informed that the car was unable to be returned due to the weather and was told that the car can be kept until it can be returned. The reservation could not be edited over the phone and the agent said that the adjustment would be made at the rental location. The car wasn't able to returned till Sunday due to Thursday and Friday the street was still blocked by snow and it took too long to get the vehicle cleared on Saturday. After successfully returning the vehicle to budget, the female clerk refused to honor the agreement that was made over the phone and informed me that it wasn't her issue and I had to call customer service. Refusing to check the car in until customer service made some headway with the confusion she then just processed the charge and said she had to close shop so I have to leave......... I think a lot of people are giving this place a bad wrap because it's understaffed. I made a reservation online and went in to witness a woman trying to barter a cheaper rate and was even adamant that the rate should include insurance. The poor guy there was also manning the phones and answering questions all while dealing with this woman who caused my 300 pick up to occur 45 minutes later. When it was my turn the process took 15 minutes. I will say that the vehicles of themselves are frequently checked out so they could benefit from being more cognizant of engine type things, for example the car I rented was low on coolant at pick up and exterior needed a wash so it was difficult to identify damages at the walk around stage. The location of the lot was also pretty annoying because it's quite small and when full, it's hard to maneuver in. Additionally at the drop off stage the woman there kind of irritated me in the fact that it says unlimited mileage but she asked me to go get the reading on the odometer but didn't trust me when I told her the gas was at the 7/8 level so she went outside to check it so I almost said what was the point of asking me the odometer if you were going outside to check the gas? Overall this place is not as bad as the reviews make it sound, it's just a single employee working so I think most of the issues stem from that. read more

I read the reviews and was a bit hesitant about renting from them. Of course they did not have enough cars for all the cars they rented out and of course they are under staff. Troy made it a pleasant experience with his personality. Returning the car was good. The only thing I would say is double check before you go pick up your rental so that they don't tell you they are out of cars. I would rent from them. They just need more evening staff. I am changing my review to 2 stars because after my returning he car, did my online survey while waiting on my sister to pick me up I learn from listening to other people conversations about tolls that even if you use your own ez pass it may not work. You might have to pay for tolls but won't know anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months I was told tolls work different from Fl to NYC. Really I also watch the manager get a call from someone asking how to work the radio in the vehicle they rented and she was a little irritated. She went to look at a car and could not explain it to the person so she told them to google it. In the process while I was sitting around when she had them on hold she complained about them!!! read more

Absolutely the worst Car Rental experience in my life. They don't even deserve 1 star under this review. They did not have the the car seats I requested and informed me That I would Have to go to JFK and get the seats that I REQUESTED on my booking because they didn't have any, I guess this is how business is done there. The owner, manager, whom ever she is; Suzette was completely unprofessional, rude, did not do enough to rectify the situation, and provided me with wrong information. "Go to JFK, they will Have your car seats, tell them you spoke to me." Just as I suspected - A. They had no clue who she was and - B. No car seats at JFK delaying my trip. The Avis agent apologized to my boyfriend for the confusion, when I told him I gave up - and had him call Avis instead. The agent allowed him to renew the rental. So yet again... a week later I call to renew the car rental once more.... the same man has amnesia and tells me Geico has to call because it's a claim. This Avis Rent a Car location is beyond terrible. The people that work there are very unprofessional and lack knowledge in the car rental business. They constantly falsify information and in my particular situation I was charged a higher rate for a compact vehicle because the payment was going through my insurance company as oppose to being charged to me directly. Instead of giving me a vehicle that was at the rate of $50 a day( including taxes) they wanted to give me a vehicle that was higher than that rate and also charge me for the taxes. I clearly asked the rep that i shouldn't be paying for the taxes and that insurance should cover that expense. She then lied and said that i wouldn't be charged for the taxes. When I returned the car, they gave me a tax bill in the amount of $187 Agency Operator, Suzette Wilkins, was the worst of them all. She falsely stated that she spoke to my insurance company and stated that I was responsible for paying the taxes on the rental vehicle. When i called my insurance company to ensure that the conversation took place, they stated that no one from Avis had contacted them. This is beyond terrible service. Luckily I was able to go to Enterprise Rent A Car a few blocks from them and they were able to take good care of me. P.S. the compact vehicle rate on their website is lower than what is charged at this location. I Warn Everyone...Please do not do business with this company. You would think booking 2 weeks in advance would be sufficient time for a car rental business to accommodate your booking. Not Avis in Lynbrook. I was supposed to pick up a luxury rental at 12pm only to be told they didnt have one available. They said there would be one available at 130 pm. Well 130 came and no luxury rental available. They were willing to rent me a full size SUV at no upcharge (only guzzles more gas $$$) I was left no choice but to accept. When it came time to pay there were issues there as well. I was told I needed a credit card not a debit card. The credit card was at home and they close at 2. They said they needed to have the physical card in hand. Thanks for screwing up the 1st night of my vacation. Hotel room is non refundable. Needless to say I was lucky enough to rebook another vehicle with Enterprise in Valley Stream the next morning.
