We returned our car prior to the office opening because our flight left early. There had been no…read moredamage to the car nor had we driven on any rough roads. We received a bill of 850euro a week later (in addition the 500euro deposit they had taken). After multiple emails and phone calls they said a light was broken and we are charged that amount until the repair bill comes through. We have no way of disputing since we don't live in France. They are not responding to emails and 3 weeks later we have no refund of the difference in price. Alamo customer service in the US is worthless in helping with the situation, saying it's a franchise. Will never rent from Alamo or Enterprise again.

They EVENTUALLY organised a mechanic to come and look at the car. He decided to take the car away leaving us stranded. About 2 hours later we were eventually picked up and taken to another car hire company in Pau (they were sub-hiring from Hertz as they did not have any cars available for us). To cut a long story short, we returned home and they called asking us 'where the car was'? We told them that THEY organised a mechanic and THEY took it away leaving us stranded. 3 weeks later we receive a bill itemising damage done to the car and they have TAKEN money from our credit card without properly evaluating the situation. We phoned and they said just reply by letter. They took money, a lot of money, without even receiving our letter in return? What sort of car hire company is this? WE DID NOT HAVE AN ACCIDENT and several people drove that car before it was returned you. HAVE YOU ASKED THE GARAGE? This is a terrible car hire company with terrible ethics. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Terrible, greedy, dishonest company. They wanted €1200 more to rent the same car from the same…read morelocation than it cost online. I showed them their online price and told them that I was here now, ready to give them my money. They refused and said they could give it to me for just €700 more than online. They made me reserve the same car online and come back two hours later to the same place. I asked multiple employees if I could return the car early and get money back. Common practice. They all said yes, as they handled my online reservation. Then after a week of French/Spanish road tolls and parking fees I wanted to return my car early. They said I could but because I rented online they could not give me any money back. They lied straight to my face, repeatedly. Then they gave me a number for customer service, which was closed. Stay away unless you like being baited and switched, or have infinite money to waste.

While we were in line waiting for the one person processing customers, another associate came up and chatted us up and said "Wow, you have lots of luggage" which we did not, just one bag each, and I realized later she was preparing us for the other person to try to upsell us a larger vehicle. High pressure upsell around insurance for the car, road hazard insurance, you name it. Clearly the employees are paid based on how well they sell the useless non-needed insurance. It took more time to rent a car here than to purchase my last vehicle. Absolutely avoid this firm... Hertz (next counter over) had a long line as well but it moved quickly. Maybe they weren't spending so much time trying to scare people into purchasing insurance and other extras?
