Low Integrity - won't complete job for agreed price…read more I hired CH to remove 6 trees for a set price last summer. He took out all but one because his crew saw an owl in a tree and wanted to make sure it was not actively nesting. We agreed to postpone the last tree until fall. This is from the text CH sent me: "$800 off the check had we will come back to cut it down when the owl is gone". Several weeks go by, we haven't seen any owls since they did the initial tree work, and I reach out to CH. He tells me he's putting me on the schedule, about 3 weeks out. 4 more weeks go by and I reach out to him again. No reply from that attempt. I try 3 more times over the next week to get a hold of him and finally get a reply saying he's been busy and he claims one of my checks bounced for the stump grinding his brother did. He also says this via text: "I can't do the tree for $800 that was included as a bulk price with the others. We will do the tree but it will cost more." I tell him he's mistaken about the check and that nobody ever reached out to me previously to tell me about any issues. Sure enough, it cleared the bank just as I expected. I received no apology and no more communication from him. It just smacked of an excuse why he didn't want to come back and finish the job. Basically, CH quoted a set price for a group of tress, then knocked off some money to postpone it, but won't come back to do it for the agreed on price. The result is that the overall job will cost more money because now I need to find another company to come out and complete the job. Even if CH charged less than another company, I would not use him due to his lack of integrity.

I think Commonwealth Landcare has the potential to grow into a great business. The pictures that…read moreI've seen via their website and FB page are beautiful...the experience that I had was, as the Yelp stars indicate, "meh". Full disclosure: I purchased a LivingSocial deal for 1 hour of lawn care at $60. Combined, our front, side, and back lawn equal less than a quarter acre of land. We scheduled an appointment (during which the owner explained that the LivingSocial deal was meant to "drum-up business" and only included mowing, edging, leaf blowing, etc.) and three men came to our house to do the work on an early spring day. I thought it would be a nice treat for a little post-winter season yard work. I had no expectations of anything beyond the terms of the LivingSocial deal. The team was punctual, very friendly, and seemed to work well together. I was a bit disappointed, however, in the work. They asked us what we'd like to see done; my husband explained that both the front and back yard (.15 acre total) should be mowed and edges trimmed. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. I knew our back yard might have needed to be cut on the long side for the first cut of the season, but it actually looked as if very little was done at all. The front yard was not touched. The work was completed in 20 minutes. For $60, this seems a bit steep. I do understand that the LivingSocial deal was meant to drum-up business, as the owner stated, and that these types of deals can overrun businesses with new customers...but when I conveyed these concerns to the owner in a follow-up email, this was one of the responses I received: "Stopped by your house. I guess you all thought the living social deal was more than a grass cutting, weed eating and blowing. There is a lot of plant maintenance work to be done. I can give you an estimate to complete the work, but that was not included. Also, I know they only spent 20 min at your house, but in a means of labor hours that equals 1 hour. Let me know if you all will need additional help." I thanked him for his diligence in following-up with my concerns, but didn't appreciate the attitude--which I read as attitude--in his email. Unfortunately, the grass cutting didn't happen in the front yard and weeds weren't destroyed in the back yard. With some more experience and time, I can see CW Landcare going places. My recommendation? Enjoy the sunshine and get some exercise by doing your own lawn care.
