Avid, the parent company of Digidesign, what a failure you are with it. Over many many years, Digidesign became a standard in recording industry with Pro Tools. Until recently, Pro Tools required their proprietary hardware to run their programs effectively, thus, becoming a very arrogant company, with that, "so what" attitude. Many of us were at their mercy with their updates and upgrades, sometimes, having to buy a system, only to have it become second rate, the very next day when they come out with their new product (software and hardware) without much of warning, and their trade in offers were pretty much a joke. Pro tools were also very finicky with the approved computers and drives that would work with their product, leaving us wondering, " how come other companies can do it but pro tools can't? Recently the pro tools became more open platform for other other hardware to be compatible. Also recently with Yosemite OS for Mac computers, it has introduced version 11 and 12. My primary issue at this point (there has been many in the past, just check the forums), is their upgrade procedure. It just doesn't work. You go to avid.com to upgrade, of course you have to pay for it first. Then when it time to download, it doesn't work. A search via forums will tell you it has issues. But when you email avid (because the tel assistance is limited to purchase) about the issue, you will get a email saying that they are AWARE of the issue and is working on it. "AWARE"???? How about if you were "AWARE", why not delay the upgrade or pause it, post caution on your website? Isn't it just morally wrong or bad business practice to sell something that you know that the consumers will have issues immediately? But then again, this is Avid, Degidesign... Perhaps it will be wrong for me to expect morally sound decisions. People who have used pro tools will tell you how frustrated they are with the product. But when it runs, it's solid. It's vastly used in the the Industry, almost a professional standard. But it's time for change, I know it's hard for a lot if us; after all, we have invested too much money in it ( with hardware and the program ), at one point I had an extension chassis set up with 6 dsp cards system with 3 rack mount I/O modules; But, if take a good look, Avid does not make the best converters, there are so many other options for better converters.It's time to change this arrogant standard. Logic, MOTU, Ableton, FL Studio, Cubase etc, these systems are more intuitive, way better sequencers and more flexible in compatibility. If you had enough with Pro Tools, post it here. Tired of the UPDATE required: When I was young, we didn't have computers. I loved music and had never seen a recording studio. College wasn't the same as it is today, so I go back and learn new things. Now I have reached this incredible potential of enlightenment and my sound recording software AVID Protools 10 becomes trouble with the updates to my iMac. I understand that there are studios that spend so much money on their gear. I am just an old gentleman trying to make music in Austin Texas. I can't afford another update gone bad. read more

They sent me an email: "Hello, You signed up to receive email from Avid, but aren't currently getting any of our updates about Avid products and the people who use them.........." I sincerely believe that I did not sign up. I don't work with professional audio or video (although I know what they are), and if they are sending unsolicited email with incorrect assertions, then I think they are probably unprofessional. So, they have spammed me! excellent. high class. This is the behavior I don't expect from a professional firm. I checked all my mail, and I did not sign up by email. I can find that i have an app from 1993 on my machine, but I didn't have the email address that they sent to in 1993. so, I believe that I definitely did not "sign up". 1 star for helping me clean my disk. read more

Avid has some great software. I am a Pro Tools enthusiast...or at least I was. Avid has the WORST customer service of any company that I have ever dealt with. They switched to a yearly subscription based system or you could buy a perpetual license with a year of updates. I upgraded to PT 12 and the video engine was wonky. I upgraded with each update and went back and forth with customer service 3 times, they kept not fixing it and then closing the ticket even though they never fixed it. Finally, my year of updates and customer service was up and I was on 12.6.1. It would have cost $100 to maintain my subscription, but why should I give them more money when they still haven't fixed the issue? So in frustration I didn't renew my subscription. They promptly took away the $100 a year price and now I can only upgrade if I pay $25/month. Now, since I paid for a perpetual license, they should at least make sure that I'm on a working version with my perpetual license. The video engine problems are well documented by many users all over the internet. Also, to use their customer service without a subscription, it's $50 each time...for them to NOT fix the problem. I've had more success researching problems with Avid software online and fixing it myself than using their customer service. Oh, and if you call in because you have a day to deal with it, they'll make you wait, put you on hold, then call you back 3 or 4 days later finally ready to assist you. I can't say enough BAD things about this company and their customer service. Instead of 1 star, they deserve negative stars. Terrible, terrible, terrible. read more
