The oncologist we visited in other facilities were giving her very little hope. We were recommended to Dr Bruckner by Dr Schwartz (the head surgeon of oncology in Mount Sinai). Upon first meeting Dr Bruckner we felt we made the right choice. His experience & success rate with cancer (especially pancreatic cancer) made us feel we were in good hands. My mother's tumors are shrinking and her test get better and better. All the patients we speak to in the treatment room have improvements with their numbers as well. I can't stress enough how happy we are with Dr Bruckner's treatment. He thinks out of the box.. his cancer treatment is different from the rest. He produces positive results. My mother's blood test are proof she is recovering. I highly recommend this facility to anyone suffering from cancer. Not only is the doctor amazing..his entire staff works hard and diligent to make sure your stay there is quick and pleasant. My mother's nurse, Maribel, is one of the best! In that time I've met, seen, dealt with and been seen by a lot of doctors. I learned quite a bit about the medical profession, the medical industry, medicine, health and nutrition. Law enforcement officers are in and out of hospitals and other medical facilities. every day in their course of work. I probably should've become a doctor instead of a cop. Anyway.... After an abnormal test result of a CAT scan, Dr Google sent my head spinning thinking I had stage four cancer that had spread. I've seen so many younger coworkers stricken with terrible illness seemingly out of nowhere. Cops are exposed to many pathogens during patrol from different cultures and going into different locations worse than Covid. Like the 911 poisons. The possibilities are endless. Based on the CAT, my primary care physician referred me to a hematologist. Try and get an appointment with one, it takes weeks! Including the one he recommended. That's BS. If something is really wrong you could be dead by then. The soonest appointment I could get was with a hematologist I saw 10 years ago and I would have to wait two weeks for a consultation. I made the appointment however the long wait did not sit well with me. Higher spiritual forces were whispering in my ear. I was led to the Zocdoc app, where Dr Volterra is part of that network. The very morning I download the app in my phone and went on Zocdoc and made an appointment with Dr Volterra I saw him that very same day three hours later. Talk about "Warp speed"! Zocdoc has a large network of doctors to choose from in all different locations near you, along with verifying that they take your insurance. This was a godsend so the following review is threefold: one for Dr Volterra, one for the Zocdoc app and one for Eastchester cancer center where he and a team of Hematologists work. If you need ANY specialist Dr in a hurry for a same day appointment use the Zocdoc app. Just have ALL your medical history ready and available to start data entry for them to establish a chart for you along with bringing any test results you have in addition to having your primary care physician fax over any necessary test results for your same day appointment. I have a lot of good Dr's in my network and am very picky. I only want the best. I routinely ask my own physicians what Specialist or surgeon they would go to if they needed one. That's my MO. Dr Volterra is kind, patient, not an alarmist and he listens to you and gives you clear explanations. His credentials are stellar, he has years of experience and was initially trained in Italy. By the way some of the best medicine in the world is actually at the Vatican. Why do so many priests live long lives? Little known secret. His old world Italian accent is charming along with his bedside manner. He examined me, went through my CAT scan results and explained that most of the abnormalities are not serious and there was little indication of Lymphoma or a major illness, although still possible. Being the highly sensitive person I am, a lot of the inconsistent mystery pains I feel are due to benign pre existing conditions. To be on the safe side he did a full blood work up. Based on those results he could stop there or investigate further. He explained most all Lymphoma is treatable and shared about one patient with Lymphoma he has been treating for 20 years who is 95yrs old, smokes cigarettes and goes bowling every day and is doing fine. That anecdotal was certainly encouraging. So I have a follow up with the Dr in three weeks and even if I have something I feel very Confident and at ease knowing Dr Volterra is my doctor. The Eastchester cancer center where he works is located on Eastchester Road in the Bronx, easy to get to with plenty of parking. The staff is professional, polite and the whole medical facility runs very smoothly there was no long wait and it was not overcrowded. On the phone with them you get a real person instead of a million different prompts. Hard to believe when you have a same day appointment. While I was there I witnessed many patients who come in for regular treatment and therapies. The staff greets them by their first name and you can feel the atmosphere is one of hope and healing. Since this review seems to be the only one on Dr Volterra and the center, this is why I'm writing it so long and in such detail. if you're reading this review and scared or unsure or feeling hopeless I hope it can point you in the right direction. Keep the faith and keep moving forward.

ORIGIN: Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) was…read moreformed in 1980 when the first U.S. hospital dedicated to cancer treatment -- New York Cancer Hospital (1884), later renamed Memorial Hospital for the Treatment of Cancer (1899) -- merged with the Sloan Kettering Institute, a research institution founded in 1945 by philanthropists Alfred Sloan and Charles Kettering. CONCEPT: The hospital is dedicated to research and procedures (both inpatient and outpatient) associated with cancer treatment. LOCATION: This location represents the first and oldest site associated with MSKCC. It was constructed in the 1930s as part of what later became known as the Sloan Kettering Institute. SURGERY EXPERIENCE: This site (circa 1939) is not intuitive to navigate, the product of limited available space and development of new cancer treatments and associated technologies. Nonetheless receptionists on the ground floor provide the necessary guidance to get to your designated location (including specific elevators). Unlike the new MSKCC sites that are scattered across the city and surrounding suburbs, there appears to be little effort in making the main location peaceful or attractive. However it's important to keep in mind that MSKCC is highly regarded for cancer treatment, ranking second in the nation in U.S. News and World Report (2025) and first in oncology in Newsweek (2026). Hospital staff are professional, patient, and friendly making the experience less stressful. The staff appear to share a stance of not overwhelming patients with information, but are immediately able to answer questions and concerns as they are presented. That said, it's best to be familiar with the current and anticipated next step in care in order to make sure it is enacted as expected. Twice during the three day hospital stay there was need to point out an error in post-surgery protocol, and both were acknowledged and corrected (necessity of limited diet (liquid) and application of intermittent pneumatic compression sleeves to reduce likelihood of blood clots). Hospital meals can become the highlight of a patient's day. There are many options, including some offerings apparently inspired by menus at fine restaurants. Meat and fish dishes arrive well-done, perhaps due to being warmed under dome for long period between preparation and transport to room or prioritization of food safety. If the meals are not tolerable, alternatives in the neighborhood are abundant (e.g. NAYA, Chopt) as long as a way to get take out delivered to the hospital room (such as through a visitor) is navigated. Despite being located without a designated car drop off/pick up area along York Avenue, car pick up after patient discharge was well-orchestrated, and thus not as inconvenient nor difficult as we had anticipated.
