When I first moved in, I was relieved I didn't have to pay over $2000 a month for a 3bdrm that wasn't a piece of shit! But with lower prices come people who don't care about nice things! The trash cans are always overfilled and garbage all over the floor! People don't pick up after their dogs at all! I can't really blame this on the apartment/staff, just wish they could do a better job of enforcing fines for those that don't pick up after their dogs. Parking.... dreadful parking! We moved in before they started this new pay for parking bs. My car was towed and I paid out the ass to get it back on a Sunday! Man was I pissed off! Also, I have a garage but it's 2 buildings over so walking to it every morning is a hassle. Not to mention, I've been late to work twice cause people park in MY driveway and I had to knock on doors for them to move their vehicles! Such disrespect! I've mentioned this problem to the staff the first time it happened but no actions were taken. Staff... the staff here is very kind and helpful. I see the maintenance team working everyday. They do a good job plowing the snow and cleaning up the garbage bin areas weekly. Melissa, Starr and the new guy are super nice and helpful with office things. Aside from things they can't control, I appreciate their help. The buildings are nice and our apartment has a good layout. The amenities are above average, pool, gym, movie room, dog run etc. i hope they can do something about the jackasses who don't pick up after their pets and the assholes who park in other ppls PAID parking spots. We just signed a second year lease I'm praying it gets better. read more

The management in the office are nice when they want to me. Most of the time, they completely disregard any concerns, or complaints that they have. The apartment complex when I moved in (from Florida, DEC 2017) to this day has not given me a tour of the apartment complex. It was just here's your key, have a nice day. From there here's been my experience: The parking is horrendous. So bad in fact that the fire lanes have been made into parking spots, and good luck finding any parking not on the other side of the apartment complex (if that). The apartment itself needs a repair almost every week. To the point where I no longer ask every time I need one, I just let a list build so they can take care of everything at once. I have had door frames fall out of the wall onto me or people who are visiting (with nails hanging out), sliding doors are coming off the tracts and falling down randomly. The kitchen sink clogs almost on cue once a week, and all the outlets work when they want to. The windows and doors keep nothing inside/outside. The rooms are as cold or hot as it is outside, regardless of what A/C is set on. So prepare to pay more on energy monthly. I could go on forever, but I wont. This is the first time I've ever had to rent a place sight unseen. After this I will NEVER do it again. Worst living experience of my life. Great staff, great maintenance crew, great pool. Units are pretty nice too. Nothing against managment, they do a pretty good job. WITH THAT SAID...It is Unbelievable how many people think they are garage mechanics around here. Banging on their pieces of junk all day! I think many of them think the parking lot is an off road ATV track too. Loud and crazy, driving their ATV's around the parking lot. Fun and games until they hit a resident, or a car. There are Disabled vehicles in garage driveways and up on blocks... you know, a nice place to live!!! There are several one bed units that have more than 4 people living in them, and they are LOUD. Another perk of living here is when a homeless couple sleeps in the garage halls of your garage and your kid gets to see it (dont worry, I turned it into an educational moment for him). That is fine apartment living at its best. Good times! THE TRASH areas are a disaster, disgusting and embarrassing (see pictures). They always look like this. So unbelievably filthy. All Thanks to the other filthy residents here. My unit is nice. Nice looking grounds/landscaping, maintenance has been wonderful, front office is great. Pool is great. The problem? The quality of humans living here. A real low quality of persons living here. At least on my side of the property. I guess thats what one signs up for when leasing in an apartment community...Filthy inconsiderate neighbors. Go ahead, give this place a shot, but I bet after living here for a month, the other residents that live around you, will make you hate this place. I'm pretty embarrassed to live here. Well...here we go again. The management either doesn't care or couldn't care less. One of the neighbors hit the girlfriends parked car in the parking lot and ran, thankfully another neighbor saw it and reported it to the police. If management would have broken down cars towed out of here(not going to happen when the office lady is part of the problem)or limit the amount of cars a single renter can have parking wouldn't be a problem. Oh, if you own a Jeep you can just park it in the grass and nobody will do a damn thing. Along with these issues the complex is being repainted! The neighbors continue to leave trash outside of their door, so it smells like a damn landfill around here, and nobody(even the painting crew)cleans up after themselves. To make things classy around here they have left a topless Roman statue at the bottom of the staircase to welcome you home every day! read more

Lived here for just under 2 years & much of your experience is based upon who your neighbors are. From first glance they look like we'll kept apartments but I promise the longer you stay the more you'll see! Literally the Thornton PD are there every week! I've seen at least 2 apartments get raided, 1 happened to be directly across the hall from me! I think someone DIED there in late 2020!seen Crime Scene vans there a handful of times & Countless DV situations where you can hear couples screaming at each other on the balcony or in parking lot! & on 3 separate occasions heard gun shots from neighbors! 1 time there was about 10 CLEAR GUN SHOTS IN THE PARKING LOT & NOBODY CALLED THE COPS! Found AR 223 shell casing in the parking lot the next morning. It was a Thursday night! So good luck in the sense that others will look out for you there if you're ever in danger or screaming for help! & the crazy thing is that some staff who work there at Avena live there as well! So I know they are well aware of what goes on. About 2 weeks before we moved the apartment on the other side of our building caught fire. The people who lived there didn't even try to extinguish the fire! There's literally a Fire Extinguisher on every floor! They were home the whole time & just let it burn, called the fire department & just waited in the parking lot! While the entire fire alarm for the building went off! Had people banging on my door to get out of the building! All with my 2yr old son there with me! People will park in your assigned parking space that you pay for & management will refuse to tow them. And if you don't have an assigned parking spot good luck trying to park your car in a convenient place for yourself! We were lucky enough to be able to save up for a home while living here, I recommend you use this apartment opportunity as a steeping stone to get to the next level in your life. Their maintenance team is so fast at responding to issues. Living in apartments is never a walk in the park when you have so many people you live around but for the most part the neighbors are respectful. Don't listen to the rude reviews!!!!!! Some tenants are so lazy and don't pick up after themselves, but maintenance responds in minutes and are so busy taking care of tenants' immediate needs which I think is even more important. We are buying a house which is why we are leaving but I would definitely stay another year if I was renting. read more

It my first apartment & the place was beautiful I had zero complaints, but as time went on maintenance requests started taking days instead of hours, the people in the front office are incredibly rude all of the time in exception to Starr she is wonderful, the best part about this place along with the 1 grounds keeper Kim. Everyone else couldn't care less about the place, it's not very well taken care of nor do they make you feel welcome. I've been here a couple years and still feel as though I'm not welcome. I'm giving this company a poor review not because the apartments themselves are that bad, but because the management is. Think twice before you sign a lease with these people. You will get locked into ridiculous fees and could even end up losing an entire paycheck paying for things you didn't even know you had to. When I confronted the management with discrepancies their attitude was complete standoffishness to their customer's concerns. I can't believe a company would provide that poor of customer service and get away with it. Yes, the apartment we rented for a year was in good condition and the area in Thornton is nice enough. But there are a lot of other things besides the management that makes me disgusted I ever rented from them. Dog crap everywhere and snow was never plowed properly. We even had neighbors whose apartment smelled so horrible, that when they would open their door to air it out, the whole area outside would stink. So it may seem like a nice place to live when you tour, but wait until you move in. We couldn't wait to move out. (I also wanted to suggest you read the filtered reviews. What is it about a "luxury" apartment complex that makes it luxurious? Well-placed flood lamps? Wall art in the lobby? "Wood-colored" cabinets? I've found that, in today's society, luxury is only a delusional state of mind, especially when it comes to apartments. It offers a false sense of worth as well a a false sense of compartmentalization from the surrounding area. What I've found about the Denver market is that it's overpriced. This place is no exception. However, my biggest complaint is probably the tenants. Parking is scant and laughable. Handicapped parking is usually taken by the non-handicapped; or, at least, it's taken by those who do have a handicap not considered to be an actual handicap (i.e. Being an ass). Also, dog crap everywhere. They could also do a better job during the winter in plowing. It wasn't my choice to live here. I'll deal with it for now. I've always had disdain for rentals. "Luxury," in the 21st century, simply means "new." If you need that sense of reassurance, I suppose this place is for you. read more

Update:: Again one star review, this time around my package got stolen from my front door. I went up to the office to report the incident and all I got was sorry to hear that. Wt* am I supposed to do with that. Also never heard back from management on my previous review after a generic response from the corporate. Will update if I get any response. I am not the one to rant on social sites but just want some questions answered from upper management. Hope to get explanation and I am willing to update the review. I got renewal notice for my lease and the community manager Zamora wants me to sign the media deal which is somehow mandatory moving forward if i want to continue leasing the property. How can you coerce a paying customer to pay more by hook or by crook. There was no mandatory notice mentioned earlier and why should a customer buy in sth that's going to be forced in to. Moreover the e sign agreement had a 15 day expiry but we get a threatening letter from management saying we need to sign immediately or else the lease would go on month to month basis. A basic customer service etiquette, I strongly recommend the Corp. office or who ever is Incharge, please send the manager in customer service training. You would do a great deal in retaining existing tenants and spread a good word. read more

OMG!!! I just moved out and was landed a huge bill for normal wear and tear that they cannot charge me for according to state law. They are trying to charge me $300 for things like a toilet seat, carpet cleaning, and dusting! ILLEGAL! Look this company up on BBB (Better Business Bureau) and you'll see how many times people have complained about things just like this AND taken them to court. Besides the outrageous charges which are illegal and fall under "normal wear and tear" they did not send me notification of these charges until 3 months later when R2 calls me up (collection agency). They cannot prove they sent me certified mail within 30 days, then they cannot charge me for anything and forfeit their entire right to my deposit. Catch up on Colorado Law before you move here, take pictures, have them printed dated and signed, and expect the exact same thing to happen to you when you move out. Oh and when changing units within this complex, they took $400 deposit and never gave me a single reason why. I was to naive back then to dispute it. This company is shameless. read more

I know that parking has been bad for the past year or so but I haven't minded even tho I know that there are 5 or 6 cars per apartment in some cases but when they went and put parking spaces in fire lanes instead of giving parking permits to lease holders that's just stupid! Dumb decisions lead to dumb mistakes and in this case can lead to a very hazardous situation. If any medical or fire truck needs to get through, they won't. We dead now. Nice quiet and clean place... awful parking! The prices are comparable to other complexes in the area, and I thought the updated and new interiors were very nice and spacious. My stay has been comfortable and quiet for the most part. The staff is very kind and attentive, and they even know me by name when I walk in the office to pick up a package. I have had a couple maintenance orders since being here, both of which were taken care of quickly. The complex is quiet for the most part. There are quite a few dogs here, so barking is pretty common. People tend to not clean up after their pets, so I avoid walking on the grass around here at all costs. My only real complaint is the parking... I don't mean to dramatize this, but it is 100% awful! Never have I ever had to compete so much to get a decent parking space. The complex does not have assigned parking (unless you pay extra for covered or garage parking) so it is a first-come-first-serve sorta deal. There are no spaces assigned to units, so there is no guarantee that you will get a space near your apartment... in reality, I often park on the other side of the complex because of the parking. If you get home any later than 7pm, you're almost guaranteed to be walking across the complex. Just to attest to this, all the "reserved" office spaces are also taken EVERY NIGHT because of the lack of parking stalls. I have several neighbors who own 2-4 vehicles but only drive one daily, so very few spots free up during the day! There are two vehicles in front of my building that are covered and being "stored" for the winter that are taking up prime parking spots... I think this is kind of silly and pretty frustrating. The management says they are working on a parking solution, but I don't know why nothing has happened. I don't see why they can't do what every other complex in the nation does and makes the stalls near the buildings assigned for one spot per unit, and every body else needs to park and"store" their cars on the outer edges of the complex... They would have more people pay for the covered parking (which tend to be empty) and garage spots, and relieve some of the stress that many of the tenant experience. This place touts itself as "luxury apartment homes" but who ever heard of walking a few hundred yards to get to your car every morning as a luxurious amenity? read more

These are the first "luxury" apartments my husband and I found that reflect the name. We absolutely love our apartment, as well as the staff. Those that work in the office are always kind, and the maintenance crew is great. The maintenance crew in particular always have their work cut out for them when we get a heavy snow, but I think they do a great job. The residents, on the other hand, need improvement. They don't pick up their dog poop after it snows, and it sounds like our upstairs neighbor is bowling and stomping upstairs. Very nice place to love overall! read more

This complex is horrible!!!! If 0 was possible they would receive it hands down. They charge you monthly per vehicle for standard non covered/garage parking with hardly any parking after 5pm with towing often through for vehichles not parked in spaces or permitted. Their community room (where most complexes allow little gatherings in) does not allow for parties/gatherings. The trash dumpsters are always overfilled with trash on the ground and constantly reaks when you go outside. They also do nothing when serious complaints are brought to their attention. We've had mold in our apartment a few months after moving in and continually have had to have maintenance done to our apartment on a weekly basis. The office staff is great when they choose to be depending on who you speak to. Throughout our stay there the place and staff completely declined. We do NOT reccomend this complex to anyone!! read more

I currently live at the avena luxury apartments and I absolutely love it! Great convenient location! Everything is really close by and the grocery store is in walking distance. The kitchen and bathroom is gorgeous and the whole layout is very nice. One thing that bothers me is parking, there are too many covered spots that take up space and are never used. If you're arriving home after 9, good luck finding a spot. Staff is very friendly. There use to be a terrible dog poo problem but the wonderful staff resolved the issue very well. It's a shame management is so awful. The apartment itself is beautiful. The dark cupboards, the kitchen island and the huge bedrooms and living room was the perfect apartment. It wasn't until moving out that hell broke loose. The management was EXTREMELY rude, to the point where I couldn't even speak to them without them lashing back at me. If you are living there and plan on leaving you best make sure you get a WRITTEN notice in 60days prior. Both my neighbor and I ran into the same issue which makes me realize that other people must have gone through the same thing. We were stuck with our apartment for an extra 2months. I agree that it is mainly my fault for not paying more attention but after going in and trying to figure out what my best option was I receive absolutely no sympathy from management, they were stone cold. Really happy I went with them, been having issues with my bank and direct deposit and they continue to work with me about being late on rent, and I appreciate that. I've lived at these apartments the past year and a half and the first year was decent, as for this year? This place is dirty everywhere you walk outside poop all over the place, My kids cant even walk in the grass without getting dog poop on their shoes! The hallways are absolutely disgusting and dirty. My walkway up my stairs has had a dirty stain on it for over a week and no one has bothered to clean it up! As for the management I really havent had any problem with them,I have called in the past and have gotten things taken care of pretty quick. I love the apartments here at Avena they are very up to date and (at least in my apartment) feels very spacious and comfy. Another asset that I like is the 24 hour workout area as someone who works nights it is great to be able to stay fit and be on my won schedule. The pool is very nice and they have a great area for kids which my daughter absolutely loves. There used to be a problem with people picking up after their animals but the great staff at Avena made a plan of action to stop it and it has been not as bad lately. The one thing that I absolutely dislike about the apartments is the parking. I don't think I should have to hunt for over 10 mins to try and find a parking spot that is relatively close to my apartment. Also with my daughter and all my work bags I always have my hands full so it is a big inconvenience. All in all though I love living in these apartments. read more

The avena apartments are a joke. My husband son and I lived here and we had issue after issue. Not to mention rude as can be neighbors and a dog peeing down on our balcony. The dog of restricted breed. We has so many issues and they never fixed one. They tried saying we had a dog at one point which was far from possible. And the staff was always rude. The girls in the office always dressed trashy and they all just handled things ridiculous. They ruined our rental history and we should have took it further. We paid this b.s place off but I have to say I know many people who dealt with them and weren't happy. I would never ever recommend this as a place it doesn't feel like home maintenance sucks all staff sucks. Lamberston farm apartments are more luxury then this place and they have great maintenance and staff. Don't waste your hard earned money to never be able to feel at home. read more

I just moved out and couldn't be happier. My upstairs neighbors and their dogs kept me awake at night. I asked the staff a question in August (twice actually) and to this date have not heard a response. Don't expect to get any of your deposit back. It seems as though they will come up with any excuse not to refund anything. I was charged a pet sanitation fee along with the carpet cleaning. I NEVER HAD A PET IN THE APARTMENT. When I asked about it I was told that the maintenance supervisor determines that by smell and that some tenants don't report when they get pets. Parking is a nightmare. People don't pick up after their pets. STAY AWAY! There are better places. I believe the rent is high for what you get. read more

We applied at this place gave them there admin fee of $200 and never received our check in the mail. We have made several calls and get nothing but the run around. Head grounds keeper is a jerk w a temper. Sara is co sistently rude a d out of the office. A gelica and brady were kind but they are gone. Management has created a culture of the customer comes 2nd a we are a hassle for the employees. My wifes car got stolen from in front of our apt and when it was recovered we were left uniformed. They say they came to the door and we werent home so they had it towed to thornton impound. They have no problem putting notes on our doors if we owe money or they are having a pool party but apartly its too much to ask FOR A STOLEN CAR!!!! Now we are being evicted w a 4 yr old for an alleged misdemeanor . We were giving 3 days to move! For a misdemeaner that there are not witnesses for and bs circumstantial evidence. Just called Avena to hopefully set up a tour. Their website says "pet friendly", but when I called to confirm that, they told me they have breed restrictions - including huskies, which my boyfriend and I have. I have never ever heard of a husky being aggressive or violent, and I would think that in this day and age that people would know that what makes a dog aggressive isn't the breed but the way they are raised. Never wrote a review before but after signing my lease here...I was treated so badly that I felt I had to worn other people!! the apartments are cute and little with contempory vibe but the customer service blows everything to hell! They are full of lies and empty promises. The new tenants override your presence. I was promised a garage the day i signed my lease, 4 months later still no garage, crazy water bills for a tenant of 1..my bill is the same of a tenant of 3, WTF? The sad thing is my aapartment wasn't cleaned prior to moving in from the previous tenants...GROSS lived in it for almost 2 months before they even returned my call to schedule someone to come in and clean. Started out in a one bed one bath, finished my lease early to move up to a two bed two bath. MUCH bigger! Maintenance is always ON TOP of any concerns or issues I may have (which is seldom!). They are at my door within the hour during office hours. The process of moving up to a bigger apartment was smooth. As far as price, listen, it's Denver, for an apartment that offers in unit laundry and offers a good amount of square footage, in a good location, their prices ARE NOT outrageous. Like I said, it is Denver. Prices are high everywhere and they stay competitive, it's the nature of the business. Parking does suck, but hey, a little walk is good for your health. Office staff is GREAT now, wasn't so great when I started my lease, but they have since hired new people, great people! Dog waste, well, shame on those owners who cant pick up after their pets, it is not Avena's fault. Over all it's been a pleasant last year. When I first leased a one bedroom it started out Rocky as part of my deposit was lost, and had been cashed by who knows who. Figured all that out with Western Union, still don't know how it happened, or who the culprit was, but it was resolved, not on their end since they couldn't do anything. All in all, yes, prices are high BUT we are living comfortably. Only pet peeve I do have is the fact that the light switches are placed oddly in some parts of the apartment, drives me nuts, but I can live with it with as nice as my apartment is compared to other communities. "if you have to sign a lease like that I wouldn't" We have been through 3 owners and 4 managements. The current one is the worst and each one (management) is getting worst. The apartments are well-maintained nice and modern. During the winter there are heating problems when the temperature dips too cold or below zero. Not good. There is literally no heat or the fans stays on all the time. Also the water pressure is low and you always have to flush the toilet twice. The water bills have also been very high and the staff has been working with the water department to remedy this situation. They are very nice and accommodating and will work with you to try to solve the problems. Finally, like most places they charge the continuing residents more rent then new renters. That doesn't make sense at all! A definite plus the location is good and right on the line for the sky ride to the airport. read more
